The sell out of Chamberlain stock is soon forgotten as Henry and Van are back at Spaulding with no apparent ill will. It was just another move of Long's to push Van totally into the Lewis orbit and sit around and fuss over Billy. Long wrote some of the most interesting strong female characters but then wrote others as simpering wimps....Van and also Trish, who actually has a scene where she breaks off with Ross to concentrate on her family and be just like her Mama, "And take care of the men in my family."

H.B. and Billy's schtick got really old when Josh left and Ryder was writing them..I swear every time the Gates walks into a scene he does a "Whooo Hooo" Thankfully Long corrects that on her second time...(though Hawk was a walking cliche who said "Dag NABBIT" every other line, but he was a minor comic character.)

Every time I see her name, I think of what they call her on DataLounge..."Lady Eye's A Popping!" which is really accurate.

That's hilarious, but pretty darn accurate, especially when Wyndham was playing "bad" Rachel.  My God, she could be scary and mean!!  She certainly wasn't Robin Strasser's "Erica Kane" Rachel.   I find it kinda surprising, since Harding Lemay supposedly wanted to reform Rachel even before Wyndham was cast, that he actually wrote her much darker and almost frightening after Wyndham took the role. Lemay certainly didn't mellow Rachel at that point.  He made her even more villainous, before he reformed her.  Strange choice, I think.

I did see her as Charlotte a couple of times, but I was rather young. As I recall, she was in a hospital bed and very resentful about something.  She treated Mike very rudely.  I assumed she was a bad character.  I can understand why she was cast as AW's Rachel after demonstrating her skills as Charlotte.

I know at some point in watching the '81 episodes, I was amazed to realize that Amanda, Jennifer, Vanessa, Trish, Diane and Carrie were running/working at Spaulding. (Alan and Henry had both given their daughters their voting proxies and intended to start their own consulting firm or something).

Alex's disdain for Henry and Vanessa circa 1984-85 never made sense. I guess it was supposed to prove how very ruthless she was in business. Stock situations rarely add up (on any show) anyway. It's just one of those irritating loose ends that I probably didn't even notice at the time.

*sigh* So much more could've been done with Trish. But to be fair, her reluctance with Ross was also rooted in his feud with Alan and involvement with Alex.

The Lewises' schtick diminishes markedly when Josh leaves (at least IMO). Or maybe it's Kyle's arrival, as Reva begins to break the Lewis habit. I do kind of chuckle---Billy's wardrobe also gets an upgrade when he marries Vanessa. I can imagine her burning those damn string ties.

I've never gotten much out of what I've seen from O'Fee, but I am still curious for her take on Charlotte.

I wonder if Long didn't try to do very much with Rebecca Hollen because she didn't create Trish, or if this was just a Kobe issue. Either way, a real waste. And after Trish is gone Vanessa has to end up filling some of those roles for the Lewis family (even when she and Billy are split), which drains some of the life of the character.

There are conflicting dates as to how long VW played Charlotte. I have see 1967-1971 in some places and 1967-1969 in others. They list Felice Carmargo (1969), Dorrie Kavanaugh (1970) Melinda O'Fee (1970-1973). Some places say O"Fee took over the role in 1971.

Felice Carmargo is the sister of VW and she substituted for her in 1969.

I wonder if Nancy Addison shared any scenes with VW before she departed ? That late 60's/early 70's time period for GL is sketchy to research.

Yes, they were very close, much more like best friends than sisters. And Felice literally handled so many details for her that VW would've hated dealing with. I have a picture of Felice & VW ... somewhere.

    • Dallas, Dynasty, Knots and Falcon Crest all had good runs but by 85 they had seen better days. I think they were a victim of the format. After several seasons seeing the same characters front and center viewers were bored. What was once fascinating grew predictable. JR, Alexis etc had to be front and center and after a while their schemes and shtick grew repetitive. JR remarrying Sue Ellen, Alexis constantly trying to get he better of Blake etc Unlike daytime, there wasn't the flexibility to bring in other stories and characters and maybe let the likes JR go backburner. That same mentality also invaded daytime with characters like  Sonny and Victor still peddling the same stuff after decades. I guess the same could be said for MSW eg every week Jessica encounters a crime and solves it,but I think viewers come to that format with a different mindset.
    • Daphnee and Trisha did a live stream on Instagram and confirmed they find out if the show gets picked up in May. This pretty much confirms they're on the primetime schedule like the Bell soaps. Fingers crossed we get a multi-year renewal announcement soon!  https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJSsYb7PDv8/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
    • I don't think Lois the character was there.  The Lois we knew from the 90s has pretty much died with this  Gio story crap.
    • Have to agree re MM. The goody two shoes character and writing doesn't help but maybe a more dynamic actor would help Brandon lift his game also. I found the song sequence a little OTT. First of all it should have been shorter and maybe the song fades out and just some music to accompany the montage. I think it would have worked better if Anita had have been alone after everyone left and started tinkling leading into the song, with Vernon coming in observing and then joining her for  a close moment. Everyone standing around felt a little too much. And that closing effect with the two blackscreens meeting was unnecessary. Just a fade out would have been enough.

    • And sadly I think that’s the trivia Both Jeanne Cooper and Eric Braeden went with for years and years. Lol
    • But people were hating so bad on amc and the final year and the ratings sucked. Business wise they made the right call. Oltl who even gained some ratings back and weren’t they higher as GH at one point is a decision and never understood.
    • Ann Williams was the first Maggie Powers on The Doctors but left to have a baby. Maggie was successfully recast so Ann picked up the role of Eunice (Jo's sister on Search for Tomorrow) and played that role for 10 years before being killed of in 1976. That led to her role of Margo on EON.
    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
