AMC: Daytime Confidential confirming production moving to LA

The fact that Pratt is AMC's head writer and the show is moving to LA (even though as far as I know there has been no indication one way or the other that the characters themselves will be leaving Pine Valley) has given me this image that I can't get out of my head of Susan Lucci staying in NY and traveling to LA as needed to tape scenes without signing any official contract, and the credits always ending with "and special guest star Susan Lucci." Erica could buy an apartment complex that all the characters move into, after Enchantment (does that still exist?) opens a west coast office that half of them go to work for.

At the risk of being an over-dramatic conspiracy theorist, Chrishell Stuase's tweet on Nelson's latest column (probably his column, he's the only one who has listed names). I'm guessing she was irritated by the "shocked" jab he took:

Chrishell7 There are people/sites stating 'facts' about some staying and going to LA with AMC that is pure speculation! Consider your source guys ; )

I did think about the AG possiblity, but remembered what happened with Genie Francis when she was said to have wanted the same sort of contract. I'm surprised the GH writers haven't tried to write out all references to Laura or erase all memory of her... at least no more than they already have. They seem to want to make sure that there's nothing for GF to come back to.

I don't get why the ABC PTB have been so open to the comings and goings of Riegel and Buddig, but have been less flexible with GF. I can't see them doing the same to SL, AMC's signature character.

GH would not be flexible with Vanessa Marcil either. I am not convinced that she was seriously considering extending her return, but they would not give her the time she wanted for outs or to be with her kid. Notice that one of the common denominators with GF and VM is Phelps who hates her female actors.

Just looked into old files and you are indeed correct about the week off and the timing of the week off (the week that bleeds into Labor Day weekend). I didn't remember correctly. I still do think they gave them this week off now to discuss the matter with their familes, between each other, weighing pros and cons. That was the appropriate thing to do considering the almost immediate deadline. They have to think about/consider selling their real estate, taking the kids away from friends and out of school in some cases, potentially moving a long way away from family, business and other associations.

I dont know which castmember are rumored to be going and not going, but here is my thoughts. This move may be a good thing to save the show, by lowering costs. Susan Lucci's daughter and grandchildren live out in CA(im still pretty sure they do), AM hubby owns restaurants in NYC and LA, so they could move...besides it might be a nicer place for them to raise their daughter which is due in November. TK has been interested in getting back out to the west coast. Also, their is such a thing as communting. Alot of current daytime stars do that right now, yes it is hard but they do it.

^ Susan's daughter does not live in California anymore and she moved back to New York after Passions ended. Liza said she hated living in California and could not wait to move back East.

And also there are so much rumors with the move that I am going to sit back and wait. As far as I know majority of the castmembers have not made their decision but we should hear something I hope in another few weeks.

I think just about all of them will go.

The ??? marks for me?

Susan Lucci--I think she'll leave the show. She'll celebrate her 40th anniversary with some publicity, and then ABC will say she'll make occassional guest appearances. (My odds she'll stay? 40/60)

David Canary--I think he'll leave the show. (Odds he'll stay? 20/80)

Alisha Minshew--Tough one....she can afford to leave; her husband's loaded. I think she might try to negotiate a move to OLTL. (Odds? 50/50)

Thorsten Kaye--Another tough one....I think he'll try to negotiate a move to OLTL...OR...Susan Haskell will try to get out of her OLTL contract to move to CA with Kaye. The hard part is...if Minshew moved to OLTL, it would be odd for Kaye to go, playing someone else instead of Patrick....but then, it's been done before, and Patrick's been gone for over 10 years, so.... (Odds? 50/50)

Michael Knight--I think he'll go. He tried L.A. in the late 80's, and again in the 90's, without much success in primetime/films. So he's not averse to living in L.A. (Odds he'll stay? 90/10)

Ray MacDonnell--I don't think he'll go. If he appears at all ever again on AMC in L.A., it will be in a recurring capacity, VERY occassionally. I do think we'll see more of Ruth, though, since Lee Merriwether is L.A. based. (Odds he'll stay? 5/95)

I don't think there's anyone else on contract who won't go.

It will be interesting to see how things turn out, though! (Much more interesting than anything that's happened on AMC for years  )

Alisha Minshew's husband owns a restaurant. How loaded can he be? Is he from a wealthy family? Or does he have other businesses?

I loved Patrick and would love for TK to go back to OLTL as Patrick. I wonder if OLTL could afford his contract with shedding some of the minor contract players like Layla, Christian, etc.

    • Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.
    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited. And @errol said JHC is working in a nonproduction capacity at Y&R.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
