GL: May Discussion

I don\'t know what to say about GL these last couple of episodes.

Today\'s show was pretty good, the Edmund mystery is something different at least (but since I think they\'re making it obvious Marina killed him, not that exciting). Mallet has become so damn self-righetous. \"Everyone\'s death has consequences, people in this town need to remember that\" says the hired hitman

Anytime CC, KZ, and GT share the same space onscreen, I\'m happy.

However, the stories on GL are dragging along to the point that it\'s ridiculous. This baby Henry story is dragging, just take the damn kid from M&M, all of this brooding about it is damn near depressing. I gather that Jessica is on maternity leave, but the complete stall in Otalia is making me lose interest. I don\'t know what this James scheme is, nor do I particularly care. Why in the hell should I care about Christina\'s daycare center?

Also, there's a new Gina T interview on Soaptown, classy interview.

And yet another reason why GL was cancelled: little to no storyline continuity.I don't know about anyone else but I like the details and seeing things evolve. I would have liked to have seen the buildup to this beforehand, especially considering that this story was a long time in coming.

Speaking of GL, I'm really going to need to start stocking up on videotapes. I plan on recording the last BBQ as well as the last month for posterity.

God what has happened to this show in the last couple of weeks. The Phillip returns stuff was great....(the quiet scene of Phillip helping Beth out of the bloody wedding dress and helping to clean her up ranks up there with the classic scenes in my mind....) but then, it all went to hell again. The show is alternately boring, slip shod, infuriating, and uh boring. Its as if Wheeler thought that GA and the Phillip returns stuff would get them renewed and they could skate through the rest. That is one of the things that bugs me the most about GL now..it seems as if everyone is lazy and skating by.

Why would anyone kill a major villian like Eddie off and not have ANY dramatic build up...Roc Hoover tieing Eddie up does not count!!! He just disappeared and then turned up dead...its like no one at GL took the Soap 101 course..Otalia is at a stand still...why arent the integrated with the rest of the show....why isnt Alan blackmailing Olivia with this news to team up with him against Phillip? Why is Alex never seen, or when she is she is Alan's lap dog (so depressing watching scenes of BMK and Joan Collins and even Dusay when Alex was THE force to be dealt with, have the current writers EVER watched an episode of GL from over 4 years ago.?) Why do we give a freak about Remy finding diamonds, or if he is going to be on the force or Clayton B and the stupid Ponzi crap?

Sigh..I love this show, and what makes me even angrier about it is that for two weeks I had my hopes up...only to be disappointed again. Somebody at GL can churn out good soap.....but it is like they stubbornly refuse to do so.

I know what you mean Mitch. I'm hoping that this material was written before we (and the crew) found out about the cancellation and when the buildup to the end has begun, things will get better. I just know that I'm not watching again untill June 23 (and I think people can guess exactly why but I'll leave it out of the discussion forum).

Wow, Marina is doing a good job. I'm shocked this show is actually decent now. It is very unfortunate it took them so long. I also see that Ellen Wheeler stopped using those lame background songs.

Today's episode made me want to bang my head against a wall, or perhaps Marina's. I just do not like Mandy Bruno's acting at all and I don't get the point of prolonguing this crap any further - but it appears as though now Marina will decide to keep it a secret too. Shoot me now.

On another note, the Springfield Police Department sure has some great officers, Mallet the hitman for hire and Remy the diamond thief.

I most certainly hope that is the case.

What do you mean, no buildup? That's what all those "Guess Who?" notes Josh and Reva got were all about. That's what Josh and Shayne being tipped off to find "Edmund Winslow" really Roc Hoover in hospital, dying, was all about.

We knew Edmund was back in town, but like the Springfield residents, we didn't know what he would do or where he was, and then boom, he's dead! Awesome surprise. That's an effective soap murder mystery, you don't show everything beforehand.

But that doesn't mean they didn't show *anything*. It's neat the way the show tied in Remy and Christina's conversation in the park, which was broken up when they heard people talking, with the murder mystery too. Making this seemingly "throwaway" moment rewards people who don't fast forward.

The new/old Clayton wasn't looking for his cue cards, he was looking at his cell phone waiting for a call about the investment. He was supposed to look distracted and to look off. I'm liking the "flawed Clayton" story a lot. I like the actor better than Montel Williams in the role. I'm also liking Remy helping him and liking Remy being conflicted about what to do with the diamonds.

I love love loved the final Edmund video. I was almost moved to tears. It was compelling, full of a good message, and all the more ironic coming from Edmund. I loved Reva's eye-rolling at that too, though. I also loved Lizzie, Phillip, and Beth reminiscing about how Edmund wasn't always bad the previous day. The show showed that Edmund is not a one-sided villain.

I liked Reva and Olivia's "frenemies"-ish conversation when Reva found out Olivia had ratted her out to Jeffrey about being with Edmund. It had been a long time since the two shared a scene, and it was delightful as always.

Rakesh, I agree about the background music being better sometimes lately. The suspenseful music when Edmund was found murdered was good, if that's what you're referring to.

Thank you for the explanation about Clayton. I think this actor is OK. I also don't mind Remy having a story, I think Remy and Christina are a believable couple.

I don't think Edmund's return to the dark side was well paced and I don't think the Lara story was that great but I do think his murder and the various suspects and motivations has been good so far. One of the better murder mysteries in soaps over the past few years.

Crap...Roc died??

I'm sorry...Edmund's death still seems out of the blue to me. Yeah...we knew he was on the loose, but I would have thought GL would put some suspense into his death, besides a few "mystery gifts". The reason I used to like mysteries on soaps was because you could "follow the clues" as it went along. It seems to me TIIC went out of the way to not give us any clues so they can make anyone the killer and claim it's a "surprise".

Now that I think about it, what kind of idiot was James for using Bill's name? The man spent a month in a coma and then was charged with kidnapping Lizzie. And what kind of idiots invest in a fund solely on the fact Bill's name is attached to it? After the scandals of last year?? Oy.

I think there are clues -- the diamonds, and who was at the park.

There's a theory going around that it's Marina, because she was at the park with Henry and Reva yet she's not a current prime suspect, she went psycho on Shayne, and she's been hinting to Mallet to drop the case. We also just saw her break the law planting drugs on the social worker, and this would provide Mallet with maximum angst when he finds out the killer. If Marina did do it, I think Edmund was threatening to take Henry because he had found out Henry was Lara's, and Marina didn't know why Edmund was threatening to take Henry but she killed him to protect her baby.

The diamonds, under this scenario, are a red herring.

jfrung79 are you sure your not related to Wheeler...like your her mom??? LOL, just kidding.

No there was no build up...but I guess in the "lowered expectations," world of Gl, the boring notes and an appearance of "Roc Hoover," is what they call build up these days. Wouldn't have the build up been more interesting if we had seen Eddie find out about the baby and all of the Super Duper Coopers having heart attacks and Reva and Josh shitting their pants? Wouldnt it be more interesting if dull, bland, !@#$%^&*] whipped Mallet, the former hit man but now self righteous Super Duper Cooper found out about his "BOY," as he screams out, is hottie Shayne's and the demon seed of Satan himself?!?!

Hey, I am just happy we will have no more appearances of Roc Hoover and his hilarious gay porn name!!!

I have to say I was cracking up at the "I'm a GANGSTER," with puffy , bombastic Alan smoking EEEH a stogie (how original.) I love it when soaps try to act hip and they just fall on their face!
