I mean, it's ancient dogwhistles dating as early as at least a century ago, it's understandable that people wouldn't get it at first. I don't want to believe Omar herself is an antisemite, and I agree with a lot of her politics. But I do think she's young, foolish and full of herself. I also think there is a longstanding problem with casual antisemitism on the left that is conflated with valid criticism of Israel in all the wrong ways.

Lori Lightfoot has been elected mayor of Chicago.  She is the first African-American female AND first lesbian to hold the position in that city.

I, too, will admit I don't understand everything about this situation, Vee, but I can see how much it has affected the Jewish communities in this country; and to them, and to you, I want to express my deepest sympathies.

@DramatistDreamerLightfoot was one of the few out of the 20 people who ran for mayor in Feb who actually declared her candidacy before Rahm Emmanuel announced he was not running. That meant something to people here versus the opportunists like her opponent along with Bill Daley who waited until Rahm decided not to run again.

The other part is several city council races were handed to new faces. That will be another factor in change because the city council generally has been a toadie of the mayor.

I feel like no one even cares at this point. It's just such an upside down world. Democrats are teaching each other apart, bound and determined to give Trump a second term (I genuinely believe many of them secretly want him to be reelected), while Trump skates and skates.

I just hope somebody starts looking more into how complicit the NYT is with this administration. I feel like they aren't even trying to hide it.

The coverage was so minimal, especially once it became clear that there would be no prospect of another Daley becoming mayor.  It's as if when Chicago is not specifically about corruption or violence or racism, the media cannot be bothered to find an angle in which to tell a story.  Despite this being what looked to be a pretty significant race (in terms of historical precedent) in one of the biggest cities in the U.S., there were really only a handful of news articles about it.
