I'll bet that when the Obamas read that column, they just laughed and laughed and laughed.

(I know I would.)

FB is filth, but it's the only social media platform that I will use, and the only way I can keep in touch with many of my former schoolmates.

This is another example of how craven and complicit Congressional Republicans are. For all their tweets about being "concerned" or "troubled." Only Republicans have the power to fix any of this and they won't. Tim Scott could become the most powerful man in Congress if he wanted to.

Brought to you by the land that spread spread the enlightenment and meditative movements. Tragic.

Seduced by Hate, Indian Politician Embraces a Lynch Mob

So much for education broadening and expanding the mind.  It's clear that degree attainment does not equal true higher learning.

Have I been paying so little attention that I failed to realize that the new mayor of Charlottesville is an African American woman? Or have I simply forgotten?  Surely we've discussed this in this thread...right?

She's included in a profile of Charlottesville in the NYT.

This only tells half the story. While we did have tax cuts this year that contributed to the deficit increase, we also had a lush spending increase.

Are you willing to give back your your tax cut? I’m not... what they need to do is roll back spending.

Good God, what kind of nutjob has America allowed to have access to the nuclear codes??

Also spending cuts (the tax cuts for many, not all were temporary but the tax cuts for corporations will be permanent) won't prevent the next recession (which is very realistic possibility now) from happening.  George W. Bush had spending cuts and tax cuts as well.

The GOP M.O. is tax cuts, spending cuts and out of control military spending. Now with the fallout from dueling tariffs because of the trade war-should be interesting to see how much pain will be inflicted in the next several months.

The benefits of those tax cuts for individuals will have worn off by then.

I’ll give the great tax cut I got back in a heartbeat, a tax cut I haven’t seen, if it means I can have affordable healthcare. It’s nice for folks not to give a darn about the rest of America or folks like me who once again may have limited or no options for healthcare due to the  preexisting condition mandate being stripped. But maybe you think I’m the one responsible for getting breast cancer several years ago like those who claim we with PEC are lazy and contribute to our own bad health.

It’s so nice to see people beating the drums that have caused every world empire to crumble. Cut more domestic spending and programs to help real people while continuing to spend spend spend on the military. You really must love the military industrial complex and our now trillion dollar military budget.

meanwhile in the real world most Americans have seen a negative impact on taxcuts, the trickle down approach has resulted in guess what, more golden CEO parachutes and stock buybacks, while we normal people see 1.50 a week while our health insurance skyrockets, interest rates rise, food prices up, gas prices up, farmers crying over tariffs they apparently thought the stable genius would exempt them from., and people at a Missouri nail manufacturer likely to close due to tariffs want a special exemption from the pain the stable genius  caused. Maybe you work for a defense contractor or private prison if you live high on the hog these days.

you can’t make this stuff up.

    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
