September 17, 20214 yr Member JR Returns ranked in the low teens - better than CBS was doing with regular series on Fridays, but a far cry from the high ratings the series got at its peak. CBS was happy enough with it to order a sequel. Which tanked as SoapDope pointed out.
September 17, 20214 yr Member Thank you both for clarifying. I know I watched the first one. I don't remember watching the sequel.

September 18, 20214 yr Member Thanks for sharing the ratings. It's like I thought, ratings were decent but not huge.
September 18, 20214 yr Member Was KK ill during the filming of the first reunion movie? I remember his voice sounding strained/shaky. It took me out seeing J.R. rolling around with Monica Colby. I mean, God bless Tracy Scoggins, but for a reunion movie of an iconic ‘80s primetime soap, I didn’t like them mixing brands.

At the anniversary party at Val's house when Karen said Hi to her, she made a face and then Diana walked up and it cut to their conversation. At the end Laurie is pregnant. Her character really was a nothing burger.

I didn't think the script was that great for the return episode. You could tell just by the title, “JR Returns,” that the producers were making the same mistake that they did in the last few years of the series: making JR the exclusive focus as opposed to the ensemble. They only had four returning original cast members: Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, and Ken Kercheval. And it was essentially “The JR Show” by that time.
