Carolyn Hinsey Fired!

I think she was much much too close to the brass at certain shows and networks: Frons, Frankie for example. I think that she was more interested in doing what they wanted her to do than actually doing legitimate journalism. There really is no reason why soap rags can't be less rags and more reporters on the industry.

It always bothered me that her publication seemed to be the faucet for all of ABC's nasty little leaks. For instance, all the stuff about REG and TSJ during their contract talks: you know the asking for the stars and the moon stuff, all seemed to show up in SOW. Then she wrote the column defending decisions to dump Dan G. with the observation that losing him was far better than losing Michael Easton. She also wrote that it was time for actors like Phil Carey to retire.

In my opinion, she was a bag man for ABC, using her voice against those who ABC wanted trashed. In return, of course, she was always invited to the big events, got to interview Michael Easton during his Garbo days and always had a stable of soap stars at her Blondie's event.

Here's something horrifying: I agree with Jess. She was in ABC's pocket. Her screed about how we should trust in the networks and not complain about vets being abused or dumped last year was outrageous.

Well... Although I detest her, especially because of those recent GH comments, I agree on this one.

Who the hell cares about vets? I couldn't care less as long as the story involving whatever characters is good.

I detest this vets dictatorship (mindset).

End.

If Playgirl can turn into an all-online publication, certainly the soap rags will eventually too! :) Unless the magazines are still banking on the lil' ol' ladies at the supermarket who want to catch up on their stories and don't know how to use a computer :)

So, I come over here like you want & you're flying off the irony meter? Come on, we have to care about the characters! And, what characters do we have the most invested in emotionally, historically and, yes, in terms, of possible good stories?

However, I digress. She was in no particular network's pocket. She was in no particular show's pocket. She had favorites & biases, as is being mentioned by soap fans all over.

Hinsey was lucky to be employed for this long and I'm sure that she will land on her feet. I'll never forget the column with Hinsey's anti-vet rant which was directed at Phil Carey (Asa, OLTL). She stooped so low in her defense of ABC for firing Phil Carey that she implied that he had been served on the set for physically assaulted his wife. Even if true, what did it have to do with him being fired? She smeared him to support ABC. Disgusting. If I had been her employer, she would have been fired on the spot for being low and nasty.

If you keep on 35 and 70 year old shows, some of your viewers will have been with you that long. In that case, for the show to remain the show, you have to also keep some of the vets.

Y&R does this best.

If you stop trying to create such endless sagas, but give these shows defined life spans (not 13 week telenovelas, but like successful primetime shows, 5 or 7 years), with planned endings (known to the creators from the beginning), the "dictatorship" stops.

My Donna!!! (Well, not MY Donna...but what a delight to see you in these parts!)

Folks, this is the "famous" DonnaB from Usenet and other parts. You see her comments on Tom Casiello's blog all the time. Hi Donna!

    • I don't believe she did. She did sleep with Simon, believing he was a Spaulding.
    • -- If I ever get sick, please don't send me to Garland Memorial. That hospital is a YIKES. -- Soooo much activity around the main nurses' desk. Do they move dead people on a gurney past that desk, too? -- 8 months for Bill to recover from a "small stroke"? Uh....I don't think so. Is anyone researching this stuff? The hospital stuff is not coming off as realistic. -- It's good that Derek and Ashley are being integrated into other stories, but it's a real stretch to say Leslie was "stalking" Ashley. It makes Derek seem dumber than we already think he is. -- Ashley spends a lot of time having small talk while she's at work. -- Chelsea is embarrassing. Period. -- Tomas is supposed to pick up the slack for Bill, but he has time to have worthless conversations with Leslie? OK then. -- Kat is destroying the case against Leslie, but that's clearly the way to keep Leslie on the canvas.
    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
    • @Efulton thank you. I don't know how I missed it or didn't recall it.  I'll blame amnesia . Anyway @Errol Could the newer thread be merged to the existing? Thanks in advance.
