Members Dion
One of the stories from January said that Maisie Smith was planning on leaving once her contract finished in October (and then obviously add in the filming gap which brings us to this month). https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/13755746/eastenders-maisie-smith-quits/ Tiffany finally departed on Tuesday. Members I Am A Swede
Longtime EastEnders star June Brown (ex-Dot Cotton) has received an OBE in this year's New Year's Honours. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-59780013
Members AMCOLTLLover
This Far-Right Plot is so underwhelming. Hollyoaks did it better a few years ago

Members wingwalker
Huge news. The show feels so ill equipped to handle big exits. The Carters were my favorite EastEnders family, but by the end here, I'm not all that sad to see DD go. Personally I'd probably just write out the entire Carter family.
Members Vee
It'll be a pretty big deal. I also think they should take 'em all out.
Members AMCOLTLLover
Finally! Overrated Actor and boring Character! Yes! Tiffany out, Him out. Maybe I will watch EE a bit more often again

Members Vee
The Sun article is typically misleading, since they make no mention except in one caption that Kim Medcalf has played the role on and off since the 2000s when Danniella became unhireable.
Members DRW50
Kim played the role from 2002-2005, then when John Yorke had a big role at the BBC in the late '00s, he brought Danniella back and tried to make the character very tarty and ridiculous (which she had never really been to that degree before). Danniella was there for part of 2009, for a few parts of 2010, then returned briefly in 2016 for Peggy's funeral. Danniella's behavior was erratic enough in the '10s that I was surprised she was asked back in 2016. I wonder if that led her to think she would always get to come back if she wanted to do so. Most of Sam's time with her family was with Danniella - Kim was only on the show with Barbara Windsor for about half her run, and Steve McFadden was also gone for the last year and a half of her tenure. I sometimes wonder if that is why Danniella returned for those last few stints. I do feel bad for her, but she has been deeply unstable for a long, long time.
Members Vee
It's tragic what she's done to herself but her physical issues are only the tip of the iceberg as to why they recast.
Members DRW50
She also lost out on a role on Hollyoaks due to her issues (she played it then was meant to return for a longer stint - instead, another character came on, very similar, to finish out the storyline). I don't think it helps that trash sites like Metro ran headlines claiming that EE "axed" Danniella by bringing back Kim, when that is just not the case. She was lucky to ever get to play the part again, to be honest. And I say that as someone who did like her in the part more often than not.
Members Skylover
OMG Kim returning as Sam!!!!!! This has been on the top of my wishlist for absolute years! What brilliant news.
Members DRW50
@Vee @BetterForgotten @Bright Eyes look at this [!@#$%^&*]! What an embarrassment. This is like one of those old Stephen King book commercials, or a joke scene from "Gareth Merenghi's Darkplace." Everything I hate about Kate Oates as a producer, in one shot. Members Bright Eyes
A promo ad like that works if the villain in question was supposed to be a more love to hate, entertaining ne'er do well who screwed with people's lives for the fun of it type of villain. At this point, it's hard to be angry. It's just embarrassing.
