I recently had the great pleasure of meeting Sally Dynevor and her daughter Phoebe for coffee here in NYC. Phoebe has been here shooting several episodes of a NY based television series I'm not sure I'm at liberty to mention.

Sally could not be a nicer lady. I knew better than to ask her about storylines. We did talk about my first time ever seeing her on TV, which happened to be Phil Donahue's talk show around 1985 (?), probably to promote its all-too-brief broadcast on the USA network-it was USA. right? Donahue was actually broadcast from Manchester and I remember how even never having seen Coronation Street equating it with Cheers was silly. Coronation Street was obviously a soap and Cheers was a sitcom. Sally reminded me that Woody Harrelson was even there at the Manchester studio for Donahue. I loved being able to tell her how much I loved Sally and Tim as a couple. Sally had nothing but praise for Joe Duttine-she's extremely happy with the relationship that's been developed between their characters. And it's obvious she still loves working on the show.

The Coronation Street set has been cleared in a shock emergency.

Cast and crew were forced to flee the set, in Media City, Trafford, and insiders said the area is a no go zone.

It is believed actors were still shooting scenes when the alarm sounded.

A source told Mirror Online the incident "felt serious."

But a press officer for the soap disagreed with our insider, who works in the area, saying the fire alarm was "all over in three minutes" and was so minor that the fire brigade did not attend.

The Coronation street set moved to its new site in Media City, Manchester in 2013.

The brand new cobbles were rebuilt across the site brick for brick.

The new set is based at Salford Quays close to the BBC's HQ and this is the fifth interpretation of the celebrated street.

Get Daily updates directly to youCoronation Street’s most prolific writer has passed away.

“Story genius” Peter Whalley was at the heart of the ITV1 soap having written 600 episodes, more than any other writer in the show’s history.

He was a member of the Corrie writing team for 35 years before retiring in 2013. In 2009 he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2009 British Soap Awards.

Coronation Street executive producer Kieran Roberts today paid tribute to Peter. He said: “Peter was not just a prolific and brilliant writer, he was also an invaluable source of great ideas and equally great wisdom in our story conferences.

“Everyone who knew Peter will also remember the lovely man behind the great writing talent.”

One of Peter’s final scenes was a dramatic fight between twisted builder Pat Phelan and Gary Windass during which Gary hit Phelan over the head with a plank of wood and knocked him unconscious.

Gareth Philips, a former assistant producer on Corrie, said: “Just heard that Corrie writer Peter Whalley has died. He was a joy to work with. His scripts always so effortlessly fantastic. RIP. #Corrie.”

And fellow writer Jonathan Harvey said: “So sad to hear of the death of Peter Whalley, who wrote for Corrie for 35 years. So supportive to his fellow writers. A master. RIP Peter x”

EastEnders writer Daran Little also paid tribute to Peter, tweeting: “Devastated by the death of a great friend Peter Whalley who wrote more Coronation Street eps than anyone else. He was a story genius.”

    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • My bad….ill fix that  Fixed
    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
