IIRC, it was under Gary Tomlin that the show did so very well in the demos - circa 2001-2002.

From memory (which is always sketchy LOL), I know OLTL went to #1 in demos for Dorian/Jessica's hit and run.

I could've sworn the show made it to #1 in that demo a few times during JFP's time there.

Not sure, but I've heard a few times that OLTL went #1 in 18-49 a couple times during JFP's tenure as EP there.

Personally AMC is now ABC's reheaded stepchild, there's NO other explanation for why Frons keeps hiring hacks to write the show.

OLTL doesn't have a hope in hell of ousting Y&R from the number one spot...but demos...perhaps.

Phelps, with McTavish as HW, kept OLTL at the top of the demos, which was probably the key factor in Shapiro handing the crown jewel GH over to these two. They faltered somewhat under Tomlin, but they've always remained strong, and have almost always outpaced AMC by at least .1.
