I hadn’t commented on the opinion of the NY fans being the worst.  I didn’t think so.  Now I do.  All the extra yelling during serves was just enough for me - so ghetto terrible.  Yell a little OK.  But it was over the top and obnoxious.  Just gross.  I can’t imagine paying that amount of money and acting like that no matter who I wanted.

Thanks!

I'm usually working when Grand Slam tournaments are being played so I have to wait until much later to watch match highlights, and so often cannot comment live. But I do follow from a distance, lol. IMO the Raducanu win symbolizes part of a greater re-set in tennis generally, so that's why I commented here. Speaking for myself, women's tennis is starting to have personality again. The Williams sisters, especially Serena, were and are GOATs, of course. In recent years, though, I disconnected a little from women's tennis as there was no-one really drawing me in. More recently I've gotten more invested again.

Re: NY crowds, I thought Wimbledon crowds were bad, but damn.

You didn't miss a thing.  Only Med doing to Djoker what Djoker has done to others countless times.  Against any other player, I would have waited for Djoker to take the final 3 sets but Med was dialed in and understood the assignment.  He was not letting up.  And if we didn't know before, the cushion of a double break means everything!

I just wonder if Novak hadn’t Nishikori’d his draw (losing sets to far lesser opponents in the early rounds, including Nishikori himself), he’d have more in the tank. If he managed to keep Medvedev playing just a little longer to take advantage of the cramping… What if, what if, what if… lol.

Novak really didn’t play his best this year, to be quite honest. He was lucky to have won the French and Wimbledon with that level of play. It’s a testament to his mental fortitude (clutch play) that he came this close to a Grand Slam at 34.

I’m sure he felt a sense of duty to Serbia, but… he wound up not being able to win any medal for them. (Steffi is one of the greats, but doing what she did at 19 in the women’s game is very different.)

I don’t know what I would have done in his position. I don’t have 20 major titles lol.
