Felix Auger-Aliassime, who turns 18 tomorrow (same birthday as Federer) notched a win against his highest ranked opponent, Pouille, in straight sets in front of his Canadian home crowd!

FAA has been buzzed about for a little while now, so it’s good that he’s getting solid wins over quality opponents. Although Pouille, after his strong start this year, has really underwhelmed most of the season.

A win is a win, but Novak looked shaky today against Basic. His stats were great, but he just wasn’t as clutch as we’d seen at Wimbledon. Maybe it’s just opening round nerves.

Wawrinka got past Kyrgios after a rough first set.

I know...I've been watching FAA for about two years now, lol.  Still, at just 17 and 3/4, to do it in front of the home crowd is something special.

Pouille is not known for his consistency and no, this has definitely not been his best season.

One hopes FAA has a Shapovalov-like run in him. The draw’s not great. Medvedev is a winnable match next up, but a potential third-round matchup with Sascha doesn’t look that promising for him. Perhaps it could be a fun match? They’ve never played before.

I'm not expecting all the great things for FAA all in one tournament. I can see him having a better career than Dennis in the long run, if he stays healthy because his technique is so stellar and more importantly, his temperament is so even-keeled.

I saw FAA in Croatia this year and his improvement from the last ATP tournament I saw him play last season at the tournament in Basel--leaps and bounds.

It must be great to be a lucky loser and replace a player with a Bye: Monica Puig replaces Muguruza and goes straight to R2 against Sevastova.

Azarenka clowned Kiki Mladenovic and won 6-0, 6-1. Plays Konta next.

Kasatkina/Sharapova should be a fun one.

Defense to offense

Wow, Cornet knocked out Kerber.

Not surprised, tbh. Kerber always seems to struggle in the wake of her biggest successes.

Cornball has been known to collect some impressive scalps but 6/1 in the second?  Angie showed up because?

Just saw that. Not sure the extent of the injury, but her screams brought back memories of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Mary Pierce. Hope it wasn’t that bad.

In other news, this is so disrespectful from the announcer:

Why was it disrespectful from the announcer? I've seen it done with other players. I thought Tiafoe yelling out over him was more disrespectful.
