What does Kay Alden & Jack Smith mean to ABC??

I just read your post Jay. It doesn't make sense to me that Higley would go before McTavish. AMC did worse during sweeps than OLTL. And if that is the case, then if Zarf fails, then McTavish should go at that point. I think they are giving the storyline six months. If Frons wants the Zarf storyline to work, then he is going to have to hire a better writer to do it. McTavish has failed at everything she has done recently, I can't believe that she is going to get another chance. That makes me so angry. The woman has more lives than a cat.

I don't think they can consult for the entire network, if they are supposed to be anything beyond window dressing. I suspect their contracts are with ABCD rather than any specific show. The question I come back to is are they consulting in transition for the HW positions at AMC and GH to ultimately replace MMT and Guza?

That still leaves unanswered the question of OLTL. Is Hackley out? Or is it that there are only two consultants and three shows so OLTL is left to implode?

Now that I've thought about it, in order for Jack Smith to turn down a major (possibly headwriting) gig at B&B, ABC MUST be putting him as the headwriter of one of their shows. I believe he'll most likely end up at GH.

Any change in AMC at the moment has nothing to do with Alden. It's way too soon.

As I've said since the summer when people were making stuff up and then high-tailing it out of town, the critical moment for McTavish is April. She has time to save herself. Anything can happen between now and then. It's hard to say though whether Megan getting her act together and staying would be good or bad for the show.

OOHH...That never crossed my mind. I think you could be onto something because Jack and Brad Bell are close friends, so yes for him to turn down a gig at B&B he has to be on the verge of penning an ABC show. I would say GH...he wrote the Bobby Marsino story that was sort of mob related, he maybe a good fit at GH!!

Isn't it possible that they are putting Alden in place to take over for AMC in April? She isn't familiar with the show or any ABC soap so what better way to get her started than have her consulting in the beginning. And April isn't that far away!! Don't the soaps shut down for several weeks around Christmas and New Year's?

And Smith could end up with OLTL or AMC or Alden could end up with OLTL or AMC. Maybe the consulting work will give them a better sense of which soap the Smith/Alden fit with. I just have a hard time believing that Frons would replace Guza.

This may be one of the smarter moves that Frons has made lately (probably the only smart move). He snatches away these two writers from CBS daytime and signs them on as consultants. He gets them tied to ABC before they can go to other shows. Then Frons waits and sees where they fit in and waits until contracts expire, then hires them has HW's!!! Hmmmm...I wonder if Frons is really that smart. And I wonder if these writers are worth it. Although, anything is almost better than what we have.

And didn't Errol or one of the SON insiders post that Frons has been trying to get Alden for AMC for sometime? Maybe he finally succeeded.

How much longer can ABCD afford to wait with AMC and OLTL before they make real improvements?

OLTL is now taping middle of January. If a new writer arrived January 1 we would be lucky to see changes much before April.

What does Kay Alden & Jack Smith mean to ABC?

Explosive sperm.

I don't have hope for any of the ABCD soaps with Frons at the helm As usual he will just hire writers he can control so it does'nt matter who they are. Until he is gone nothing will change. ABCD already is pretty much all about sperm and babies all the time.

The thing is if Frons wanted them to learn...is he just saying they are consultants...because if you're grooming a writer to take over, wouldn't you think you would want them in the thick of things. I say that ABC and Frons can't wait much longer...he needs them in place ASAP!! Make them buckle down and get going with new story directions and storylines...I think Megan has proven herself along time ago, that hack should have been shown the door the day Erica Kane Montgomery said, "Josh is my son...with Jeff." Well actually come to think of it, Megan should have been shown the door far before Erica ever said, she should have been tossed out of there on her ass the day she wrote those words in a story for ALL MY CHILDREN, Frons should have bumped her back and begged A. Nixon to come back and write for *her* show.

You see I think this is a great start for AMC, I think it can make a difference only if they backburner Babe or something. Right now just about every freaking storyline on the show revolves around her, even Simone's death has somehow become about her.

So unless The Babe Carey hour is cut out, ratings aren't going to go up too much IMO

I found an old quote by Errol saying that Frons has wanted Kay Alden for AMC since this summer. This convinces me that Alden more than likely is going to be replacing McTavish soon. Hopefully sooner than April.

Kay Alden was offered the AMC job (with a hefty paycheck) prior to the Burton Armus news. With changes at Y&R now taking effect, it is possible that Armus may get AMC and Alden gets OLTL or vice-versa.

Going back to GH for a second --

Isn't Guza's contract up in Spring 2007? Now there are 5 to 6 months till then, is it possible that Frons/ABCD giving Smith a trial run before offering him Guza's job? Or perhaps using Smith as a Co-HW with Guza? Or Guza gone completely and Smith and someone else co=HW GH?

I'm curious as to where this is all headed.

And what does this mean for GH? Does Smith like couples? Independent women, families? Charater history? What? I'm not familiar with Smith or his style of writing.

If/when Smith and Alden become HW's of an ABCD soap, DO NOT expect them to be the savior because as long as Frons is still in charge, GH will still be the "Sonny, Jason and Sam Show" OLTL will still revolve around John McMummy and Todd and AMC will still be in a strangle hold by Babe.

Expect a slower pace where ever Smith becomes HW. You really got to ask youself, "why was Jack Smith and Kay Alden let go from Y&R?" LML was brought in while Smith and Alden were still HW and co-HW. Don't expect too much because you may get let down. (But something is better that nothing).
