I LOVE this idea! That would be great.

One of the problems with Sheffer's tenure is that at least a year after he came on board, a number of writers- notably Carolyn Culliton and Stephen Demorest- left the show and were replaced with the likes of Passanante. That's hard to understand, considering that Passanante's tenure at AMC was generally unpopular, and Demorest had years of work at GL and ATWT under his belt. I'm not sure if Sheffer was entirely happy about it either.

It's my understanding Courtney Simon is in charge of what passes for "continuity" on the show. I can't believe she still has that job, and I'd never wish the title of head writer on her.

Yeah. She and Laiman have been on ATWT for a while now, and I just don't understand it. They must be sleeping w/ Goutman or someone at PGP to have kept their jobs for this long. Whoever is approving these scripts (I think it's Simon) is not doing his or her job. The continuity on the show is nonexistent.

JFP on ATWT? Oh no! Unless we all want to seal the coffin for the show, that woman needs to stay the hell away. She pretty much ruined AW and GL IMO.

When I was younger I was a huge fan of ATWT. I remember when Holden came on and the big triangle with Holden/Lily/Dusty. The show was awesome. ATWT has never been the same for me since the death of Douglas Marland. I think Christopher Goutman is talented, but I think his time has passed on the show. I watch the show sporadically and when I do it bores me to tears. I liked Scott Holroyd as Paul, who was unceremoniously fired to bring in Roger Howarth. And, Brian Bloom will always be Dusty. Maybe Francesca James would be a good choice for EP and Kay Alden Head Writer.

I think Francesca James would be a great choice for EP, although I'm not sure about Alden as HW, I've heard she wrote a lot of boring storylines on Y&R.

Well Alden did keep Y&R at #1 all those years so she must've done something right, surely not? <_<

Seriously though, there have been criticisms of Alden, not least the way the character of Ashley was ruined. But it was also a lot to do with the actress who played her (Shari Shattuck- one of the worst recasts in Y&R history IMHO). But then again, given what many fans are starting to think of LML, Alden might even be viewed favourably in retrospect (as per my comments above).

But what would people think of this for a writing team?

Richard Culliton (as HW)

Carolyn Culliton

Juliet Packer

I was wondering what happened to ATWT renewal? I thought it was to happen early this year. Anyone know?

As to Jean, she has run out of ideas/storylines. She needs to go!

I'd hire British people. :D They write amazing soaps. Great motivation.

Somone should grab Beth from Days.... She is excellent.

I thought it was up for renewal in 2007. I'm not sure when exactly. I heard it expires in July, but I could be wrong.

I think Goutman has run out of ideas too. The show needs someone w/ a fresh perspective IMO.

I would love it if somehow we could steal some good British writers, but unfortunately I don't see it happening... <_<

Yeah, get Tony Jordan from EastEnders!

But sticking to American writers, I would love David's idea a few posts up.

Both Jean and Christopher Goutman need to go! Jean doesnt know how to write a story and Chris has no clear vision for the show. Fire them now!
