ATWT: Who should write the show and who should be executive producer?

I would love it if somehow we could steal some good British writers, but unfortunately I don't see it happening... <_<

It’s not impossible, it’s just that the idea never occured to anyone. I think Britons would love to come, it would be a sort of escapism, leaving all those kitchen-sink and working class drama behind.

Certainly it would be outside the box thinking, something that Daytime hasn't had for years. However, I'm not sure how well it would translate- British soaps are so different in their dynamics to American soaps.

My suggestion of having the Cullitons, Packer and Bacchus came because I'm interested to see how fans would react at having them back. I'm not too sure what the fan reaction to the Packer/Backus and Culliton writing tenures was back in the day (1993-95), but one might think that they've come to be viewed very favourably in light of almost everything that followed after them.

I would love the Cullitons to be co-head writers with Packer and Backus back. Add Sophia Landon Gerier as script writer. I would add more script writers as well.

I wouldn't want a British soap writer. What would be the chances of someone coming aboard and knowing and loving the history of the show?

I'd like Claire Labine to come and save the show like she did GH. I think ATWT would be the perfect soap for her with it's strong family ties. She does GREAT family drama and that is what ATWT was about in it's glory years.

I agree Chris. But would Claire Labine be interested? I would love to have her come write for ATWT.

I don't know all that many writers names so I can't suggest any, but Jean P and Chris G. need to go, especially after a couple of tidbits I read today about early 2007. Won't go into it here because it is not a spoiler thread, but it is mostly same old same old in regards to storylines, I think you all know what I mean.

I just hope I read something more interesting than the tidbits I saw today, because it really looks like nothing will be changing in January with these current storylines.

Could you post them in the spoiler thread? I dont know why I like torturing myself.

Jean just needs to go as HW. I hope something is done soon about ATWT current state of bad writing.

I read an interview with her and she's still working so if they asked her I think she'd consider it. I know when Port Charles was picked up, she had created a GH spin-off that was in the running.

But at ATWT she would be a match made in heaven. Here's what she does...

- Great family drama

- strong female AND male characters

- heavy feature on vets

- realistic business plots

- romance

- plausible villians who are portrayed as villians.

I just hope when they finally pick a new HW it isn't someone recycled and crap.

I've seen her work at GH. And she did an awesome job there. And ATWT needs all the above you mentioned. The show has no great family drama. The female characters are so stupid now. Vets are on but just as window dressing. And no business plots in sight. And no romance either. Carly/Simon are not romance IMO. Neither was Katie and Mike.

The frightening trend on Daytime these days is the way female characters are being written- strong, independent women seem like an endangered species now.

I've been an advocate for Labine to come on to B&B, since she knows how to write a half-hour soap so brilliantly.

Yes, but the long-running British soaps are centered on veteran characters, core families, community, and in-depth looks at why people do the things they do, so the writer would *want* to know and love the history of the show unlike many of the American daytime writers and producers today, who just want to focus on their pet characters, youth, and skin.

A couple years ago, Eileen Fulton said in an interview how she is a big EastEnders fan because the show actually had stories for older women -- Pat, Pauline, and Peggy. She also said that EastEnders is like what ATWT was when she first started.

If you haven't read the interview, see it here: http://www.wgazette.com/wint05-eileen.html

If you want an excuse, this is not a good one. Hogan never watched soaps before he started writing for ATWT, and it didn’t go that bad. Yes, he’s not a terrific writer, but at least he showed that an outsider can come.

That is why story bibles and script graveyards exist. And historians, too.

British are good, because they write faboulous dialogue, not this stale type we keep on hearing every day, and they know motivation.

Exactly. ;)
