I HATED when Ben left Camille for Denise. That was so stupid.

I totally agree with you.

Parker's paternity reveal was the end of Broderick's reign.

Looking back on it, Broderick's stuff wasn't bad. The beginning of the Carjack angst. Babs and John's baby Johnny's death. Everything being tied together (ah, the Milltown Church fire! which had it's roots in the Ben/Teague racist storyline.)

But sequels are never as good as the original.

I thought that's when it was, thanks! Regardless of who takes over, at this point, I'm just ready for Passanante to go.

While some criticisms of the FMB/Broderick tenure are justified, it could be said that they performed reasonably well in the circumstances. Broderick had a very big mess to clean up, and her track record prior to ATWT was very good with Emmys to show for it. She was a definite improvement compared to the debacles of the previous couple of years, and it was reflected in the fact that ratings stabilised after some years of decline.

What is needed, more than anything, is for ATWT to find a writer who can write traditional soap and return the show to its roots. Someone who understands the meaning of history, and can make use of the extremely rich history behind the cast and characters of this institution. Daytime needs a soap like ATWT to perform strongly.

I'd like to see Chris Goutman stay on as executive producer. He's a talented man and I think he is the least of ATWT's problems- it's definitely the writing.

I've said it before & I'll say it again: Give us Donna M. Swajeski, possibly with Carolyn Culliton or Chris Whitesell as co-head. I think Donna would be ripe for the ATWT canvas & would work wonders on the show.

I'd settle for any of Y&R's castoffs. At least they'd have a passing acquaintance with storyline integrity and continuity.

SO TRUE.

Say it again.

Anyway, here's a list of writers, I would be very happy to see end up at ATWT:

Lorraine Broderick

Carolyn Culliton

Richard Culliton

Millee Taggart

Donna Swajeski (although right now, I'd rather her be promoted to HW at GL)

Paula Cwikly

Sally Sussman-Morina

Trent Jones

Claire Labine

Sheri Anderson

Richard J. Allen

Pam Long

Josh Griffith

EDIT: Hal Corley :)

I wouldn't disagree with most choices, as a longtime B&B fan that'd be my list if I were looking for someone to replace Brad Bell. Richard Culliton is back at ATWT as a script writer anyway, so I don't think we could rule out the possibility of him being a HW candidate at some point in the future.

When we're talking about opinions on HWs and EPs, how long after their tenures can a clear historical consensus be formed? From fan and critical responses, ratings and actions of higher-ups? I also think the following things should be taken into account:

- even the very best shows and very best writers were not infallible by any means, and even these wrote storylines, characters and recasts which were not wholly popular. But because they were so good, and/or because what followed them would be so bad, those shortcomings were easily forgiven and forgotten.

- you also have HWs and EPs whose tenures were not wholly popular with fans and critics when current, but are viewed more favourably in retrospect because those who followed were much worse.

And I think that's very relevant to discussions here. Not just for ATWT, but almost every other soap too.

It's time for a change now. Jean needs to be fired!

I want to keep Jean Passanante, because I really like her. I think she writes an exciting and yet still thought-provoking show. Sometimes she bombs, but when she's on she's on (and she bombs much less frequently than Sheffer did.) I would like an EP with a little more style though. Jill Farren Phelps would be great, or Wendy Riche.

Goutman came in with all kinds of ideas, and at first he really improved the show. But he definitely lost his way sometime around the Fall 2002 college tour....

Here's the problem with ATWT right now:

1. Craig is on every single day.

2. Craig seems to win everytime. He is controlling all of Oakdale.

3. Repeated storylines....Gwen/Iris/Will round 2(it's been done and came to a conclusion with Iris going to jail), see #2, shooting after shooting(Emily and now Dusty), citizens of Oakdale losing their minds(Barbara, Emily and now Dusty). Where are the fresh new stories?

4. Too much Katie. Katie/Mike/Simon/Carly is pure snoozeville! Mike will leave and Katie will hook up with another man(how dull and predictable). Simon/Carly stealing the jewels was a boring, dull, stupid storyline.

5. Jade still wanting Will.

The show is recycling the same stories and the new ones that are on are boring!

ITA. Passanante needs to go NOW before the show gets any worse.

Riche yes, but Phelps? No way- just ask GL, AW, OLTL and GH fans on here what they think. JFP would only do more damage to the show.

Seriously. JFP is one of the last people I want in control of ANY of my soaps.
