Frons is out peddling podcasts and ringtones trying to come up with other revenue lines to increase daytime profitibility. He'd do better to get three quality shows on the air that attract viewers but you know he flunked logic the way Dena flunked math. I'd love for him to answer the question of who is going to watch a podcast of OLTL when they won't watch it on tv.

I'll never understand the podcast, ringtones, mugs, etc. when they SHOULD be releases those shows on DVD like every single other show on the planet has done. Soap fans will pay hundreds of dollars on fan club events and bootleg tapes, if they released them they would no doubt sell well.

I got that from ABC.....RavenBeauty, who i dont completly trust, said that there are big shakeups at OLTL and AMC and the big question is which soap will announce their good news first.

You mean she's already been replaced? I could kinda believe this, the show right now doesn't seem as awful as it was before. Either way, Higley out is GREAT news!

I could buy into Higley already being gone. The show went from bad to disaster in the last 4 weeks. There's no direction, little actual story. It's like it is just stalled.

I find it incredibly encouraging that nearly every soap out there is FINALLY waking up and looking into getting "new" writers. It's honestly ABOUT DAMN TIME.

Nancy Curlee and Steve Demorest have been approached to return to GL as well.

Why would PGP bother to hire "name" Head-Writers for GL if the show is getting cancelled anyway(according to most internet gossip)? I still refuse to believe GL's going anywhere, unless PGP pulls an EDGE and cancels the show because of affiliates dropping it or pushing it in late-night.

It's not in SID it was posted on SD/Soap Dish. And instead of Leslie Nipkow it's said that Ginger Redmon is Higley's replacement.

Needless to say this must all be taken with a grain or two of salt.

How can you argue that Frons "knows what he's doing" when Frons is the one who hired the morons that are now writing the shows? Did he know what he was doing when he hired Higley? Did he know what he was doing when he crammed all the newbies down our throats?

Frons consistently bolsters the very piss poor actors that everyone is sick of seeing and Frons' heavy-handed management is what put this show in the shitter. Frons is a very good marketer, but he's a groupie. He is responsible for the poor condition of ABC soaps. It's no coincidence all of them are bad. I hope he does know what he is doing and he is stepping up to change the direction of all these soaps, but I seriously, very seriously doubt it. His idea of a good couple is Jessica and Antonio, Courtney and Jason, Ryan and everyone, Sonny and Emily. He doesn't know what he is doing.

As far as being 100 percent positive OLTL is getting a new writer? So what? If Valentini is still there and if Frons hasn't changed his opinion of what people want to see then nothing is going to change.

I think the only reason Frons is acting in many cases are because of the competition. Especially with AMC against Days in most markets. ATWT does well and is against OLTL (Passions in not quite competition for OL yet.) I'm hard pressed to say Frons is just coming to his senses and doing what's right for the shows. At least he's smart enough to step outside the normal cycle of writers or at least try to.

As others have said, HW change alone can not save any show. Between the whole writing team, the EP, and Frons, there's a lot of room for error. A lot. Especially with OL's current group of writers and it's EP, Higley aside. Like Jess said earlier, there have been noticeable decreases in quality under not one, but two of Valentini's HW regimes. Malone II and Higley. So, are the writers really to blame, completely? Especially since Frons has been around to taint both regimes, as well.

Ignoring that, I have to say I agree that not too much is going to change for intelligent writing and stories unless Frons and Valentini are both gone. Neither is a brain trust.

People were happy when it was announced Malone and Griffith were returning and they had reason to be. Malone has a proven track record where he created interesting and layered characters, he knew the families and the characters and he can weave interesting and compelling stories. I can't say the same about Dena's hiring. People were happy to see Malone gone but there were many reservations as to Dena's ability expressed on this board and others. Those reservations have more than proven themselves to be true. The fact that she was ever hired considering her record is a suggestion that Frons doesn't have a clue. Still the original point remains valid. The same mistakes that plagued Malone II are on full display under Hackley only amplified by her lack of ability. Romance is non existent, families are non existent, pets still rule, plot points rule the day. That suggests that the problem is far more extensive than the writers. Dena needs to go yesterday but so do Frankie and Frons. FV illustrated that this weekend when he continued to suggest that his show was perfect. Wake up Frankie, a 2.3 isn't an indication of a successful show.

I don't think Valentini has any real control at all but, besides JFP at GH I think that's true for all the EPs Frons has hired for his shows and he likes it that way.

However about Frons sometimes his ideas make some sense--on paper. when he first came to the shows he quickly hired Malone/Griffith for OLTL and McTavish for AMC both who had written each show the last time they had great ratings and great reviews (ie the early to mdi 90s periods). So he prob thought he was doing right byt he shows, but due to MANY MANY reasons it didn't work (with either although both had moments of success at first).
