  1. Capitol also did a lot of on location shooting for the primetime pilot, and while in the area, lots of B-roll was taped for subsequent episodes. Scenes and establishing shots of the characters' homes in the fictional Jeffersonia, VA were taped in Potomac, MD. And of course there were scenes taped on the actual Capitol steps, as well as in Georgetown. There were lots of car scenes in Capitol with B-roll of D.C. streets used extensively. I met Marj Dusay when I was in college and I asked her about Sloane and Trey's wedding at the Jefferson Memorial. She said, "No, we did that in the studio!" Looking at those episodes, it's clear that she was not one of the actors flown out to film on location, her scenes are clearly on a California set mocked up as the interior of the monument. Gated communities in the central Atlantic are McMansion enough that BTG wouldn't really need to film on location to establish Fairmont Estates. But D.C. is D.C., there's no getting around that for folks with attention to detail. For example, The Blacklist did scenes set on Metro that had locals aghast at the depiction of our train stations.
  2. I'm thinking Prince George's County rather than Montgomery (my home). For decades, PG County had the highest concentration of wealthy blacks in America. Lots of DMV locals felt that one of PG's affluent suburbs would have been a better pick for a predominantly black Housewives franchise. On Capitol, most of the action took place in the fictional suburb, Jeffersonia. I don't mind if BTG makes up a place, uses a real location, or leaves it nebulous. "The gated community of Fairmont Estates in suburban Maryland" paints enough of a picture for me.
  3. Dame Susan Victoria Lucci Huber will be dining in Hell's Kitchen on FOX this season. I gaysped when I saw her at the chef's table in the preview. @Jonathan
  4. I rather enjoyed it! I was not expecting that ending either. Frankly, this show could have been called anything other than Matlock. Kathy Bates is the draw, not some tenuous connection to an old favorite when so many people are weary and wary of reboots.
  5. If I was doing a black show set in the DMV, a go-go beat would be obligatory.
  6. Production companies take the term "local hire" very literally and very seriously these days as many have been burned in the past. Actors have played fast and loose with the term when submitting for auditions and booking jobs. Having an old college roommate in Alpharetta who'll let me crash on the futon in the baby's room does not make me an Atlanta local hire when I'm living in Baltimore. Production does not want to worry about you missing your flight, production does not want you working on other projects (period, honestly) that may run long and prevent you from being on time. They want you local and they want to be your first priority. It's very expensive holding up production and sometimes there are circumstances when something needs to be reshot or your schedule is suddenly changed and no one wants to hear that you can't make it. It's a tremendous blessing to be cast as a series regular, one of those opportunities where you pick up and move your life and go all in.
  7. Lucci and Slezak deserved every penny and it would have been a crime for any man on their shows to have earned a cent more. Both ladies had over a decade on him at ABC, but the only man who I think merited anything close in terms of salary was David Canary. Anyone else picking up on these sly digs to Alex/RSW about talent/acting ability? Apparently there's someone bts who likes to take the piss out of him every now and then. Formerly, it was the affectation with the glasses.
  8. I particularly enjoyed The Locher Room's tribute to Marj Dusay. I'm curious to know what other actresses were in the running to replace Carolyn Jones on Capitol. I'm almost positive John Conboy would remember if he was still with us to share. Anyone know who else tested for the part? There was a SOD article with early speculation that Beverlee McKinsey may star in Capitol before casting was announced. This was after Texas and before she joined Guiding.
  9. How adorable is the kid who plays Thomas, with his little arms 😅 such perfect casting as BF's son. I think I said this already, but the new Gabi is also great casting in the vein of Elaine Princi replacing Robin Strasser, it's giving me that exact vibe. A very serviceable replacement who is doing her thing, and we get that her predecessor may very likely return someday and it will feel like *olde tymes*, but the replacement will have made her fans and will be remembered for her contribution to the show. What did I miss, I didn't quite grasp Stephanie's private dance party.
  10. The new Gabi is giving me Elaine Princi feels in terms of a suitable recast who doesn't make me forget the actress she replaced but who is carrying the torch of the character in a way where I'm along for the ride. I will miss Blake Berris who was probably the best actor on the show.
  11. While I'm relatively new to DOOL (watched AMC for decades), I've seen enough to say that I think MR would have played those "not my daughter" scenes more grounded. It may all come down to acting style, but CM didn't play material so OTT when at her best. MR plays quieter, smaller, and more delicate which would have served those scenes better, imo. Cady's return was like a bull in a China shop. I get the character's motivations, that was clear, but the actor's delivery could have used some modulation. CM was a hurricane, I think MR would have played the quiet storm of doubt and wistfulness. DID, meta soap-within-a-soap, we've seen it all before, and it's not being revisited (a generous term, copied and played out are more like it) in a good way, just comes across as tired, lazy, self-referential, and self-mocking, and frankly detrimental to the medium when it comes to new fans' perceptions of what daytime drama is capable of providing.
  12. Thank you! It's nice to be back. And thank you for the tags, lots of classic material to catch up on.
  13. Back in the day. A memory Kelly had of grabbing Mark's leg when standing up.
  14. These is she or isn't she storylines do nothing for me because they never stick and all it takes is one of the previous actors showing interest in coming back and all of the investment is gone to [!@#$%^&*].
  15. RB looks ridiculous as Steffy and Thomas' mother, and equally implausible as a woman who has for decades been a contemporary to her foil, KKL's Brooke.
  16. It really is. My mother would be so tickled. I had been catching bits and pieces of late night rebroadcasts, but now that Get TV has stopped airing my Good Times reruns in the morning, I've taken to watching K&M. They don't get on my nerves nearly as much as I feared. Of course I enjoy any AMC-related anecdote (like having dinner at Robin Mattson's house which was mentioned last week).
  17. I follow that IG page and had been wondering when she would inevitably be caught out and about. Her parents lived in Palm Beach for several years and she still spends a good amount of time down there. She's probably the only person on IG who gets a heart from me by reflex, I don't even read the caption (potentially dangerous in these times, I know).
  18. Cassie had moved to Mendorra following her mother. IIRC (the episodes were on YT), Cassie appeared in a couple of episodes first before Princi made her debut. As Vee mentioned, Ava didn't stay long after Cassie and Dorian returned to Llanview. Strasser once said that for Laura Bonnarigo-Koffman, it took some getting used to adjusting to a new actress playing her mom. Strasser quipped, "How do you think I feel!? You're my FOURTH Cassie!"
  19. Just got an email that Peacock Premium is going up from $5.99 to $7.99.
  20. Lol, wow, a Perry Como reference. We're the same age Khan, I think we're the last generation to even know who he is (he was my great aunt and uncle's neighbor down in Jupiter, FL). At any rate, I do enjoy the unique blend of the Green(e?) siblings. As somone who has watched soaps for many years and seen the introduction of families, I don't recall being this interested in newcomers. I also pray that they don't do a stupid "he really IS gay" storyline with Mark to prop Leo.
  21. Playing catch-up, but I absolutely adore the addition of the Greene siblings. Don't [!@#$%^&*] it up DOOL. Such potential here. Are we really losing Johnny and Chanel?? That would break my heart.
  22. I, Claudius was Esther Shapiro's inspiration for Dynasty. So many great performances in that series, and Dame Sian Phillips' Livia makes Alexis look like a wet pussycat.
  23. Kristen Jensen to Felicity LaFortune as AMC's Laurel. A total 180.
  24. Frank Valentini aka Pablo Personality I fear he is working himself way too hard.
