  1. Variety March 13th 1968 Nancy Hsueh, has been out of sight in recent weeks, and reliable word has it that she-and the part of "Mia" that she played-won't be back. This can hardly surprise anyone who's kept pace with the story convolutions this new daytime strip has gone though since its establishment last fall in the web's afternoon drama.
  2. Variety May 24th 1967 Negro actor P. Jay Sidney has notified producers of the Procter & Gamble-CBS soaper, "As the World Turns," that he will not work the strip again without a contract. Sidney, who has made 14 appearances on the show, claims that white actors with similar feature roles are on contract. Sidney played Dr Bellamy. I wonder what the outcome of that was.Irna Phillips wanted to include Black actors on the show but refused to show them as janitors etc Nonetheless, she did not take kindly to actors setting the agenda. Maybe she would have had little to do with this and Dr Bellamy was dropped quickly and quietly.
  3. Al Hinckley as Ralph Anderson Mary Jordan as Greta Powers John Carpenter as Fred Harrison
  4. Variety October 11th 1967 In its 2nd week Love Is A Many Splendored Thing had a 7.6 to be beaten by DOOL 8.3 The Doctors had a 9.5 to Art Linkletter's 9.2 - the first time TD had beaten Linkletter. And then at 3 AW beat To Tell The Truth. The first time CBS daytime dominance had been threatened.
  5. Around this time August 67 The Doctors was winning its time period up against Art Linkletter on CBS and Dream Girl 67 on ABC. NBC must have been thrilled with Rita Lakin's work as that was the first time TD had beaten Linkletter. As a result Dream Girl was dropped for something called 'The Baby Game'which began Jan 1st 68 and lasted until July 68. Later in 68,CBS would drop Art Linkletter after 15 years in that slot and The Doctors would go up against The Guiding Light.
  6. Variety April 3rd 1968 mentions Conrad Roberts. His part In the Colgate soap, that of a medico back from the wars, incepted last week. As Roberts noted, his is the first three-dimensional black characterization featured on the serial Some cast lists have Roberts playing Dr Simon Roberts while others including IMDB have Mel Winkler in that part. In addition to P Jay Sidney,Clarissa Gaylor will play Mrs Stark.
  7. Ma Henderson was Liz and Bruce's mother. Many pages back it was established she was on the show briefly and played by Dorothy Adams, mother of Rachel Ames (Audrey GH) Bruce's wife Regina was played by Jodean Russo. The Hendersons were originally announced as another core family with 2 sons but obviously as Bill Bell got into writing the show he felt there wasn't room or need for these characters.
  8. This is a cast list from Who's Who in Daytime TV 73. I didn't realize Pam Peters was on that early. Was Peggy just recurring at this point? How long did Robert Clarke play Bruce before Paul Stevens? I've never seen any Y&R related pics of either. Also don't recall any summaries that talked about Bruce's relationships with the Fosters. CAST: Dorothy Green as Jennifer Brooks Trish Stewart as Chris Brooks Pam Peters as Peggy Brooks Janice Lynde as Leslie Brooks Robert Colbert as Stuart Brooks Lee Crawford as Sally McGuire Robert I. Clarke as Dr. Bruce Henderson William Gray Espy as Bill "Snapper" Foster Jim Houghton as Greg Foster Juliana McCarthy as Liz Foster Brenda Dickson as Jill Foster Tom Hallick as Brad Elliott Robert Clary as Pierre Jay Ingram as Frank Martin CREDITS: Producer: John Conboy Creator & Headwriter: William J. Bell Associate Producer: Patricia Wenig Directors: Herbert Kenwith & William Glen
  9. Our first sighting of Greta. She was born on screen ? So has been sorased to 6 or 7 year old? Hopefully she'll be mentioned in a cast crawl. The first regular Greta seems to be Eileen Kearney. Cast lists have John Rice staying till 69,so it will be interesting to see what happens next. And Matt, as chief of staff needs to upgrade his car.Judging by the dash mounted rearview mirror and curved windcreen that was a late 50's Chrysler!
  10. Never sure why they dropped Pat. Beverley Penberty was aging well and a link to the show's roots.Pat had only been married once in all the time the character was on so they had hardly run out of story. Mike and Marianne could have been brought back and integrated with the new characters.
  11. I always found him off- putting in interviews where the interviewees seemed to be fawning towards him -especially the Mr Cosby and Dr Cosby references. Didn't he only get an honorary doctorate? I hate that universities hand these over to celebrities who never actually bothered to study.
  12. Great article as always! Never knew Robert Clary was Eddie Cantor's son in law. Also interesting that Robert was taping Days back then. Now we know that Corday kept Days anyway, but got me thinking that there were probably many more actors/production personnel that taped their shows back in the 70's and those tapes are sitting somewhere...
  13. Good find. If it is the same actor he never mentioned GH in interviews during his AMC days. Must be suffering from what I call 'Mascolo' syndrome, whereby actors conveniently erase that they've done soaps before. Joe Mascolo always talks about being offered Stefano DiMera and not sure about doing soaps when he's made a movie with Burt Reynolds and never mentions he'd done Days and WTHI in the late 60's/70's.
  14. I remember at the time they talked about the location shoot and how the interiors were done at the studio with chroma key backgrounds using video taped on location and that it was seamless. I think Doug Marland spoke about how strong GL was when he took over (apart from no young people). He didn't really drop any characters for quite a while.Who were the first to go?
  15. According to IMDB L&F was her last acting role.
  16. For the record we should add Kathleen Murray as Maggie on The Doctors in Feb 68
  17. This writer is less than impressed with Morgan's foreign policy schtick... http://hillplace.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/morgan-fairchild-daily-beast-foreign-policy-wonk.html
  18. Looking through the 78 storylines on the AWHP it seemed that Lemay was running out of steam.Did he talk about that much in his book? I know he didn't like writing for younger characters .Was there pressure from P&G/NBC to age Dennis and Jamie and bring on Joey etc? Those characters Sharon & Dino Amati who were supposed to become involved with Rachel and were quickly dropped. What was that about?
  19. Yes,the Dancy's didn't really have anything to do with the hospital. Maybe that was intentional in that they felt viewers were bored with the hospital setting but the show was called 'The Doctors'.
  20. Who was Kate Donovan?
  21. Really looking forward to reading about Marland's plans for the show in light of what actually played out.
  22. That marriage to Sam Groom (Russ AW) lasted until 82.Suzanne never remarried.
