  1. Thanks so much for taking the time to post these. Much appreciated. All of 75 ? Yes please!
  2. Liam Sullivan (Alan Dunbar) Judy Lewis (Susan Ames Dunbar) 1971
  3. Winter and Logan. I believe she was the first guilty party to be tried and acquitted. Kevin and Pheobe Jamison Emily, Draper and April
  4. GH creators Frank and Doris Hursley at the 9th Anniversaty party
  5. The amazing Holland Taylor as Denise Cavanaugh. Still working today (Netflix's Hollywood) Some other Edge photo memories.
  6. Christopher Reeve (Ben Harper) and Birgitta Tolksdorf (Arlene Lovett) March 1975
  7. I think the Soderbergs were moved to ATWT after the 73 writers strike to replace Irna whose stories (and ratings) at that time were proving to be unpopular. Robert Cenedella, James Gentile and James Lipton are listed as writers in that 73-75 period but no specific timeframe. And Raven, run to that attic and dig out the bible and please share with us !
  8. The Hamptons cast is almost exclusively made up of soap actors.I guess because of it's NY locale and the fact that it was on tape and done quickly and cheaply, meaning no room for primetime divas to crumble under the pressure.
  9. The AWHP says Irna was headwriter until March 65. The Alex Gregory character came on in September 64 so James Lipton (next headwriter) expanded the family.Maybe that was always the plan as the Baxters would be phased out and the Gregorys moved in. Ellen Weston would later play Karen Gregory.
  10. She got the chance to do primetime which a lot of other writers did not, by choice or chance. Maybe the work and pressure of daytime no longer held appeal.
  11. That bio was quite detailed. I have read that some details of Soap Centrals GL summaries have been questioned as to whether they actually occurred as there is little info of that time period to go by. In this instance I wonder whether CBS and P&G would allow an interacial affair (Stanley and Deborah)?
  12. Some more info on Freshman Dorm. It was a 5 episode summer series which as te noted above went up against 90210 which seems odd. CBS was always trying to get viable young skewing 8pm shows on its schedule so to program it there is a strange move. MGM TV closed up soon after so maybe CBS had lost faith in the concept and wanted to write it off. Here's the Variety review. I don't believe it was a serial format so not strictly a soap. Say what you want about the new series “Freshman Dorm,” but it moves up a class before its second episode. In other words, it’s sophomoric. CBS has boldly gone where no other network has–except for Fox–by targeting the same audience that goes gaga over “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Melrose Place.” The CBS summer entry is in the same neighborhood and carries with it some of the same shortcomings as the popular Fox shows. The one-hour premiere of “Dorm” gets an F in originality, and that does not stand for freshness. Though in a different setting, chances are these characters will bear a certain familiarity for the “Melrose” and “90210” maven. In the dorm, which is coed, there’s K.C., a poor Hispanic beauty who shares a room with Lulu, an upper-crust New York beauty, and Molly, an apple pie beauty from Milwaukee. Across the hall, there’s handsome Zack from Southern California by way of Arkansas, and handsome Alex, a black who rounds out the ethnic mix. K.C. immediately falls for Zack, but she’s too busy trying to hide her background and “own the world” attitude to know what’s really important–like a relationship with Zack. Molly’s boyfriend is handsome jock Danny, who wants to marry Molly in the worst way. But Molly’s not so sure. Well, you get the picture. In this dorm, there are no average-looking people, no people out to simply get an education. There’s not a political activist in sight. The reality quotient in this episode is dangerously low. We see students preoccupied with such activities as volleyball on the beach (perhaps a salute to our Olympic athletes), playing loud music at 9 a.m. (ouch) and surfing, for the serious frosh. We do not see a library (colleges do have these) nor do we see students actually studying (a novel concept). There are several classroom segments, but both are glossed over, with only a faint stab at humor. One features the elderly, boring Shakespeare prof who routinely puts students to sleep. But the semester’s just beginning and “Dorm” does have some redeeming qualities. Lulu (Paige French) is a refreshing character, who brings some panache to the proceedings. A scene where she shows up the snobbish sorority queen with some witty parries is about the best “Dorm” has to offer. The photography helps divert us from some of the humdrum with some nice shots of coastal Southern California. And the music is–well–handsome. But for the most part, this is a pretty shallow look at campus life all wrapped up and packaged for the “Melrose” crowd. So, though it might fail in getting beyond stereotype, it will likely get an A in the ratings. The show premiered Tuesday Aug 11th @9 and ranked 30th for the week, 2nd in its timeslot. That was up against Roseanne and Coach on ABC which ranked #1 and #4. Episode #2 Tues @9 ranked 49th - 7.1/12 Episode #3 Wed @8 ranked 69th - 6.6/12. 90210 had a 2hr episode and ranked 37th - 9.5/16 Episode #4 Wed @ 8 ranked 62nd - 6.9/12. 90210 was 35th - 8.9/16 Episode #5 Wed @ 8 ranked 91st - 4.3/7. 90210 was 23th - 11.4/19.
  13. I would imagine that was the case. Other shows would SORAS any child in sight but Kevin was too young for that. AMC introduced Tad so the Martins could have a teen child when needed, Brooke to give Pheobe someone young too meddle with. AW had Alice adopt Sally, SFT gave Jo a teenage ward with Bruce, EON the Marceaus adopted Pheobe. GH gave Lesley the backstory with Laura. The Bauers took on Peggy OLTL had already had the Halls adopt Josh, although he seemed to be dropped later on. Maybe a black young adult was too problematic as he could not lead story.
  14. Going back to another era December 1970 Stanley Norris (William Smithers) and Leslie Jackson Bauer (Lynne Adams) What was the reason Leslie married Stanley? I wonder if Smithers was considered a bit of a 'get' at the time -an established primetime actor. How long was he on before being murdered? Maybe it was a fairly short term role which is why Smithers agreed to daytime?
  15. How about a 'they started on Y&R ' theme show. Scenes of Tom Selleck, Hasselhoff, Shemar , Eva Longoria, Paul Walker Is there any one else that could be included?
  16. A lot of that is due to the attitudes of the time (a lot in fact hasn't changed) Creating an ideal man to rescue our heroine. That's why the bad girls had so much appeal as they provided a glimpse into 'another world' not so hidebound by restrictive rules and values. Ostensibly they were punished but we still got to enjoy their antics.
  17. Great analysis. thanks for posting. As you say, Steve's return could have worked with better writing and motivation.
  18. Re Joseph Julian His autobiography about his life in radio mentions some other roles Stella Dallas The Goldbergs The Second Mrs Burton This Is Nora Drake Wendy Warren Road of Life Front Page Farrell Backstage Wife Against The Storm Portia Faces Life When A Girl Marries In 1950 he was blacklisted and work dried up.
  19. From radio soap hopper Joseph Julian's book For a time, the daily serial The Road of Life was heard over two major networks until the sponsor decided to eliminate NBC and play it only on CBS. The final day on both, the announcer's tag line read: Starting tomorrow, The Road of Life will be heard only over CBS. This didn't sit well with NBC. It was bad enough losing the show, but a free plug for the rival network was rubbing it in. So they ordered it eliminated. But the writer, Charles Gussman, a shrewd and determined fellow, rewrote the last scene as a phone conversation between Dr. Brent, the leading character, and a patient who was asking for an appointment. Brent responded by saying that he was moving the next day and could be reached only in care of Doctor C. B. Hess. On paper this was nothing NBC could object to. But spoken by actor Don MacLaughlin, who de-emphasized the word "doctor" and stressed the rest, it was exactly what Gussman wanted it to say. Sneaky, sneaky.
  20. There was some spin about the audience wanting to believe that Bert was alive and happy. They should have done a proper funeral with Mike, Hope and even Peggy appearing .Surely the actors would have agreed to return to honor Charita. And Meta could have returned for the funeral and stayed on as the new matriach.
  21. More of Erica at the altar Wedding #5 Erica marries Travis Montgomery Feb 88. May 1990 Erica and Travis rewed. July 93 Erica marries Dimitri
  22. Fair enough when new writers come in they drop a few characters to make room for their own. Marland did that in time with Holly, Elizabeth. Lucille, Diane,Rita etc but kept a good balance and integrate the newbies so it didn't seem like a different show. He brought in Tim and Andy to support Barbara's and Sara's role in the show. But in the long term I get why Barbara, Adam and Steve Jackson were dropped. They didn't have any connection to the canvas. Their children were all gone. and the actors were probably expensive to keep. Maybe if they were happy with recurring - but was that even offered to them? Maybe if Emily Norris had been brought on Barbara could have functioned as a grandmother figure? However, when Long got in full swing most of the cast was dropped .Mike, Hope, Justin, Eve, Floyd, Hilary, Morgan, Jennifer, Amanda, Tony, Nola and Quint etc And Charita passing away. The show just changed too much.
  23. It's funny how Marlena in that 80's mode has a very butch look. I've noticed that with some other females in clips from that era. Never understood the appeal of Wayne Northrop. How he was ever considered some sort of sex symbol?
  24. With Dennis Cole they decided to go with a completely different look to John McCook, which was jarring - not only a new performer who naturally presents in a different manner, but also physically is nothing like his predecessor. I don't think anyone warmed to DC in the role.
