  1. Susan Seaforth Hayes appeared with her real life mother Elizabeth Harrower as mother and daughter in an episode of the ABC daytime series Day in Court in June 1964.
  2. Re Susan Seaforth Hayes Add Day in Court June 1964 She and her mother Elizabeth Harrower portrayed mother and daughter in an episode dealing with a mother suing her daughter for taking money from her bank account.
  3. Thanks for that. Even though it was front of me,i forgot Liz wan on that day.that's why I struggled to piece it all together. Your sequence makes sense and follows Bill Bell's plotting. Going back to an earlier topic re crossover of characters you could see that with a limited number of sets and scenes per 30 min episode Bill didn't want to clutter up things too much by having different characters get to know one another and have to interact.
  4. Ep # 1051 Airdate Wed May 18 1977 Tape date Tues May 10 1077 Written by William J Bell Kay Alden Elizabeth Harrower Cast Kay Joann Liz David Mallory Ron Nancy Miss Simpson Dr Hanlin Jill Derek Sets The Allegro Nancy's hospital room Foster Living room Golden Comb Prologue Allegro Nancy's room ACT 1 Foster Living Room Golden Comb ACT2 Nancy's room Allegro ACT 3 Allegro Golden Comb ACT 4 Golden Comb Nancy's Room Looking at those characters and sets and trying to piece together the episode is tricky. any ideas? Nancy's hospital room was for Ron Nancy, the doctor and Miss Simpson (maybe a social worker?) The Allegro Maybe Kay and Joann. Maybe they encounter Derek Foster Living Room David and Jill (but the next scene was the Golden Comb, so Jill couldn't be there) Golden Comb Derek and ?? Did Joann work at the Golden Comb.Did Kay visit her there? If so who was hanging out at The Allegro? Remember, in those days, things didn't move too swiftly. Characters were lucky to be in a different setting in one episode.

  6. Re DD Maybe when he was approached to go on contract, word got out that a whole family was planned for Paul and he was advised to hold out for more money as his advisors realized he was of more value to the show. Kay Alden admitted they were scrambling when the show expanded and perhaps they thought 'OK let's give Paul a family' without thinking that Doug might be savvy re contract negotiations...
  7. Allen Fawcett in a SOD interview in 1981 while he was playing Kelly on Edge of Night, talked about landing a holding contract on Y&R in 1980. It was for 10 weeks as they waited to see if 'a certain actor' would leave the show. When that actor decided to stay Allen auditioned for and got the role of Kelly on EON. This would have been in 1980. Allen was about 26 at that time but looked younger. Any guesses as to who he would be replacing? I'm thinking Doug Davidson?
  8. Thanks Jason. I have a question regarding Pat Falken Smith. Seeing that call sheet above reminded me of that era when Bill and Janice returned. I think it was Daytime TV at that time interviewed Pat Falken Smith about being a consultant to Days, thus the return of those characters. Her position must have had some influence going by the fact that she was interviewed and those changes happened onscreen. I don't recall anything on your (fantastic) website about her involvement in the show at that time and I have never seen it mentioned anywhere. Am I imagining this? Do you have any info that could verify this?
  9. I agree. Maybe a live week (as OLTL did later) heavily promoted with some major happenings - maybe some sort of celebration where some old cast could return and, as you say, some major event as a hook. As a ratings tool it paid off - " Search for Tomorrow, which was receiving much publicity because it was forced to go live for a day, received a 13 share—its highest in 14 months." If there had have been a live week they could really have consolidated those gains.
  10. The time lines for the original Barbara's are somewhat of a mystery. Geraldine Court came on as Jennifer in Dec 71 as announced in Variety who also note Donna Wandrey as Barbara Dec 15th 1971. So maybe Judi Rollin and Barbara Stanger were on for only a few days each as Barbara or Barbara was seen onscreen before her mother. Perhaps a dying Chuck Ryan was seen first with his kids and Jennifer was talked about and not seen. Barabara was written as a love interest for Tom iit must have been short lived as he married Carol in July 72. Irna Phillips returned in January 72 and brought back Carol and obviously was not interested in Barbara as she was dropped and forgotten. Then when Barbara finally returned, her brother Rick was forgotten for several years.
  11. I can only answer a couple of those questions I believe the bar was Bigelowe's. And Sunny used the name McClure (her mother's maiden name?) to dissociate herself from her father with whom she had a tenuous relationship. And she wanted to make it 'on her own' as a reporter.
  12. Re Betsy Von Furstenburg Add The Verdict Is Yours - Woman on trial for shooting her husband, who she claimed she thought was a prowler.
  13. When Jeanne returned, Katherine hooked up with Cash, which led to her friendship with Nikki and a whole new lease on life for the character.
  14. Yes, looking at some of the themes I wonder what the observations/advice would have been, in light of prevailing attitudes of the time. Not wanting to stretch the friendship, but there is little around on similar shows For Better or Worse and The House on High Street. Would you be able to work your magic with those two?
  15. Yes in 65 AMC was a strong contender for CBS 10am slot but they decided otherwise.
  16. @jam6242 Thanks so much for this. More than I hoped for. Obviously the ratings were poor. It was the last time the anthology/dramatization format was tried. @slick jones More names for the hoppers list!
  17. Thanks for that I had that feeling also. I imagine it was along the lines of Derek boosting her self esteem . Katherine - Derek. I am very much aware of how the world sees me.It's how I see myself- oh yes, Kay Chancellor - a drunk, a woman who has nothing so gives nothing. A shell. Derek - No, that's not what I see. I see a a beautiful lady with so much to give, if she would just give to herself. Gift yourself with light - a belief that under that damaged shell is another woman -yes, she's a little battered and bruised but ready to emerge from that shell bursting with life force. Katherine - Do you really believe that - believe in me? Derek - I do and I want to be beside you on this journey. Not with Kay Chancellor - we'll leave her behind with her sorrows and regrets -but with...Katherine Chancellor! Katherine - (hesitantly) ... Katherine Chancellor...Katherine..(hands fluttering she stared into the distance)
  18. Chris was involved with the Peggy's rape due to her involvement with Peggy's rapist Ron Becker and his family. Stuart and John both got involved with Jill so that says something. To me they were both kind of uptight guys who supposedly were strong but really quite ineffectual.
  19. Amazing - I had Joan Wetmore lined up in my next requests! Can I ask for Alexia Robinson Andre Khabazzi James Sikking Hattie Winston Laryssa Lauret
  20. Yes I find it hard to believe Gillian was fired. If you look at her track record in soaps her roles were usually short lived. From what I've read she has a lot of interests and probably wasn't too keen on settling into a long term role but happy to return every few years - maybe to top up the bank account. Daisy on AMC was her longest stint, but she was older by then and probably knew further roles were going to be harder to come by.
  21. Thanks for posting that. Some interesting names in that obscure show. Hope we can uncover more. Just one thing - I have only ever seen it referred to as Confidential for Women.
  22. When did Katherine come to being referred by that name? My recollections are that Phillip always referred to her as Kay as did Jill for some time. She was always Duchess or Mother to Brock. Liz called her Mrs Chancellor for years and then later Katherine. Did Derek call her Kay? What about other characters from the 70's? Would Lorie for example have called her Kay in her chats with Phillip? I get the feeling that Victor and Nikki always used Katherine. Was that change deliberate to redefine the character? Or did one character decide to refer to her as Katherine and it just became commonplace? Similarly, Liz Foster is always referred to that way but I don;t recall anyone addressing her that way on the show Katherine called her Elizabeth as did John Abbott. Did Stuart use Liz?
  23. According to Jason 47's site, Bill Bell's tenure as headwriter finished 6th May 1975, about 2 years after Y&R began. Due to contract issues I believe he was obligated to continue at Days for those two years but Pat Falken Smith was de facto headwriter and continued on till 77. But the UCLA collection points to Bell still being involved up till 78. Very confusing!! PF Smith didn't start at GH until 79, replacing Doug Marland.
  24. Re The Nurses Add Julie Mannix - Angela Carter . This was pre Secret Storm. In her blog she talks about her soap roles and does not mention The Doctors. I think there has been some confusion along the way b/w TD and TN. Update - I've just gone through TD cast list and there is Angela Carter played by Susan Anspach. So perhaps Julie Mannix also played this character and has confused The Doctors with The Nurses?
  25. Interestingly, the Bill Bell Archive lists scripts from AW in 1967, way after his departure in 65. He was involved with Days by then. Wonder what the story was?
