Racism and racial representation on soaps
Taylor the Desert Princess (B&B) was somewhat offensive and it would not work today. The recasting of Y&R's Keesha from an actress of Puerto Rican heritage to an actress of Italian heritage. Keesha's race was never stated but it was implied that she was African-American.

I wonder why EB wouldn't submit his name for the Lead Actor Emmy. I don't remember him mentioning much about the Emmys in his book. 1998 was his 5th nomination and I was getting scared that he was approaching Susan Lucci losing streak territory. EB didn't get a People cover story when his streak was over though. You should get a medal 🤗 The 1992 episode has a Nikki/Katherine scene, so MTS must have squashed her beef w/ JC by then. From what I could tell based on what was onscreen and what I've read, the MTS/JC beef was from 1990-1992.

Did the Santa Barbara writers throw a bunch of Middle Eastern names at a wall and picked the ones that stuck?

Have you come across any Buffalo/Niagara Falls listings? I'm curious to know if viewers there could get Global Toronto. Thanks in advance

Ratings From the 90's
@Soapsuds It was mentioned in the Y&R Classics thread that there was a week in June 1997 where Days was only 0.3 behind Y&R. Do you have the ratings for that month?

Ratings From the 90's
@Soapsuds Thanks for posting these 1990s rankings. We'll get to see how much the ratings dropped due to OJ and how close James Reilly's sci-fi Days came to Y&R during summer 1997.

Ratings From the 90's
By 1990, B&B had more affiliate clearance than it did from 1987-1989 so I would imagine the Y&R viewers carried over. Plus by 1990, Bill Bell figured out which characters were working and which weren't, ie. the Spectra gang became prominent while the Logan family was phased out.

Monday February 19, 1990 was President's Day and CBS aired a NBA regular season game that afternoon. CBS had the broadcasting rights for NBA from 1973-1990. CBS Sports pre-emptions for B&B AFAIK were US Open (1987-2014), NBA regular season games (President's Day 1989, President's Day 1990), March Madness (1991-2019), Winter Olympics (1992, 1994, 1998).

I think Lauren's 1984 stories were her singing career, the marriage to Paul, and the arrival of her mother JoAnna. 1985 was the second of Terry Lester's four consecutive nominations for Lead Actor. Sadly Terry never got a Lead Actor win, but if you look at the 1984-1987 Lead Actor races, the competition those years was tough.

Ratings From the 90's
Y&R's big 1991 stories were Nikki's substance abuse, the baby switch, and David Kimble. I don't remember too much about B&B that year, except the Logans were pretty much all gone and replaced by the Spectra gang, Stephanie's stroke and homelessness, and Caroline's twin Karen was introduced. 1991 was a transition year for GL as there was a head writer change, big cast changes, and an EP change but it was still enjoyable; highlight was Alexandra/Roger at the country club in July.

Billboard Charts
Justin Bieber now has 6 Billboard Hot 100 #1s. He has more #1s than Prince. Think about that for a second.

Beverlee McKinsey not getting a Lead Actress nomination for GL is the most egregious error by the Daytime Emmys. She could've easily won in 1991, 1992, 1993 as the Lead Actress races in those years were rather weak. Maureen Garrett was nominated for Supporting Actress in 1991, 1992, 1994 but the competition for Supporting Actress in those years was tough.

Thank you for posting this. Even though I wasn't watching GL live at that time, I was so happy when Michael Zaslow got his long-awaited for Lead Actor Daytime Emmy. He really should have won more than one Lead Actor Daytime Emmy. His work in the early 1990s was amazing to watch and I'm so glad I got to see his best work either live or online. He wasn't nominated in 1991 but should have been for the Acapulco episodes, and I also think he was robbed in 1992 for the country club episodes and 1993 for the episode where Roger confesses to Holly that he still loves her. Michael's 1992 Lead Actor nomination was also GL's first in the Lead Actor category. Is there any truth to the rumor that someone at P&G messed up Michael's 1992 and/or 1993 submissions thus the losses.

For B&B fans in French-speaking countries, here's a good resource https://www.soap-passion.com/amour-gloire-et-beaute/ As of now, France is at February 4, 2019, Luxembourg is at March 11, 2019, and Switzerland is at January 30, 2020. Looks like Switzerland will be getting repeats in a few months. One of the French language channels in Canada is at March 13, 2019.
