Y&R to air classic episodes
Ryan and Malcolm had shirtless shots in the closing credits I think. Brad taking his shirt off in the 1988 opening was cheesy though.

Y&R to air classic episodes
Forget everyone else, the second half of the 1990s and early 2000s was all about Shemar. No matter how much Y&R tried to make them happen, the others of that era couldn't hold a candle to the hotness of Shemar.

Thank you for posting this. Even though I wasn't watching GL live at that time, I was so happy when Michael Zaslow got his long-awaited for Lead Actor Daytime Emmy. He really should have won more than one Lead Actor Daytime Emmy. His work in the early 1990s was amazing to watch and I'm so glad I got to see his best work either live or online. He wasn't nominated in 1991 but should have been for the Acapulco episodes, and I also think he was robbed in 1992 for the country club episodes and 1993 for the episode where Roger confesses to Holly that he still loves her. Michael's 1992 Lead Actor nomination was also GL's first in the Lead Actor category. Is there any truth to the rumor that someone at P&G messed up Michael's 1992 and/or 1993 submissions thus the losses.

You don't begin to understand the power of Victor Newman. I WILL CRUSH YOU! Skipping tomorrow's 2014 episode.

I skipped today. Can't wait to see "I WILL CRUSH YOU!" again.

Y&R to air classic episodes
I guess we'll know by the end of the week which other Neil episodes will air. I doubt we'll see Neil and Dru's 1993 and 2003 weddings but I think we might see KSJ's last episode.

Maybe Douglas was referring to Jack learning about Victor being alive. Once again, poor editing and the episode doesn't flow well. I'll be skipping tomorrow but Thursday is "I WILL CRUSH YOU!"

Y&R to air classic episodes
@Soapsuds The frat party started about 8 months after this episode 😄 I thought today's was going to be the episode where Victor reveals that he's alive to the group at the Colonnade Room, instead it's the episode where he reunites with Victoria and Nicholas then reveal he's alive to Jack.

You'd think the Chancellor Estate would have a full staff but we only ever saw Esther. No other cooks, cleaners, groundskeepers, etc. That attic was grime time but it only made the fight more epic hahaha. Can't wait for tomorrow's 1993 episode, I think that week was one of Y&R's highest ratings ever. Also later in the week "I will crush you".

JW won Lead Actress in 1997; I think she submitted episodes where Jill was a suspect in Victor's shooting. The Chancellor estate party was September 1998. Jeanne Cooper got a Lead Actress nomination in 1999 for the Chancellor estate battle story. Victor and Nikki had four weddings that I remember: Colonnade Room 1984, Genoa City Memorial Hospital 1998, Colonnade Room 2002, Newman Ranch 2013.

That storyline was the start of the trademark black tank tops 😂

I didn't bother to watch today as I remember the original airing and this episode was also rebroadcast before. Looking forward to the 1990s episodes next week.

Victor was so sweet to Nikki when he put makeup on her. EB was so handsome here 🥰 The Katherine/Jill feud was reigniting and the attic fight was not long after this. Can't wait for that episode next week. At least the editing for this episode was better than the previous two.

Y&R to air classic episodes
That pretty much covers it. For whatever reason Y&R isn't exactly known for discovering breakout talent and launching primetime/film careers. Worst recast ever. The nepotism made awful even worse.

I can't wait for those episodes 😍

Terry Lester joined Santa Barbara not long after he left Y&R and was there for a year. He joined As the World Turns in the fall of 1992 and was there until the spring of 1994. Terry guest starred on some primetime shows in the late 1990s but he must have been dealing with health issues in the early 2000s as he passed away in 2003.

I wonder if Nikki getting drunk and making a fool of herself was Bill Bell's way of planting the seed for Nikki's substance abuse that started later that year.

Whomever is editing these episodes is doing a terrible job. They seem so disjointed. Today's episode reminded me why I never cared for Peter Bergman. There's an innate smugness that just wafts through the screen. Seeing Terry Lester (RIP) yesterday and PB today highlights the huge difference between their portrayals of Jack. Whoa, EB seems to be anti-aging 😂 He was 49 in this episode and had been on Y&R for 10 years at this point yet he looked way better than he did in the 1980s. He was so dashing and debonair in his tux 🥰

Cricket wasn't eating the show as much by 1990 as she did in the late 1980s. It occurred to me last year that Bill Bell used elements of the Reed sisters for the Barber sisters. The new doctor in town and her troublemaking younger sister. A key difference is that the Barber sisters were connected to an existing character in their aunt Mamie. Come to think of it, Nina Arvesen would have made a good Ashley recast. She would at least be more believable as the other woman in the eternal triangle and the wicked witch who took little Victoria's daddy away. Brenda Epperson looked too innocent and sweet for that aspect of Ashley, that's probably why Bill Bell wrote her Ashley as more of a typical soap heroine. Although I didn't particularly care for Victor/Cassandra as a couple (their relationship seemed more rebound than actual feelings for each other) I thought EB had more chemistry w/ NA than BE.

@Soapsuds Hahaha. That's 1980s cheesy pop goodness right there. If anyone here was a fan of 2000s hip hop, you'll remember these songs. I think they sum up this week's theme 🤣

Cricket ate the show from 1987 to 1989. That era also saw a change in EPs (H. Wesley Kenney to Ed Scott) and three major cast departures (Brenda Dickson, Eileen Davidson, Terry Lester).

Y&R to air classic episodes
It was posted here before that Bill Bell's original plan wasn't to pair Victor and Nikki, but he changed their story when MTS became pregnant in real life. Perhaps BB's original plan was Victor/Lorie. MTS and Ed Scott weren't together until about 1984 I think; they were married in the fall of 1985. Watching the 1987 episode. The editing is really bad, the episode doesn't really flow together. What a treat it is to see the late great Terry Lester. If I remember correctly, the last time Y&R aired a classic episode w/ TL was Christmas Day 1998 when they reaired the episode from December 23, 1988. I'm skipping the Cricket scenes. The Victor/Nikki scenes I feel like I've seen some of them online. MTS and ED were rocking that big ass 1980s hair 😂 EB was 46 here and he looks better than he did in the 1981 episode. Consider this, JM is 46 now and maybe it's late 1980s vs. 2020 styling but holy difference 🤣 Can't wait for 1990 tomorrow, even though it's an episode I remember watching when it originally aired.

Just watched the 1981 episode. Whoa, Vanessa is scary. If I saw her storyline live, I would probably have nightmares 😂 Bill Bell used elements of Vanessa for Stephanie but Stephanie as Bill Bell wrote her was never that scary. Victor pretending to be the man servant 🤣 Victor and Nikki were so cute in this episode. Funny that Nikki didn't make a comment that Mr. Victor the decorator/man servant has a similar name to Victor Newman. EB was 40 and MTS was 25 in this episode. The age difference is quite apparent here, maybe that's due to early 1980s styling.
