  1. LOL this show is insanely dumb, although Bill having lost his sanity is and now being beholden to Sheila is actually hilarious as is this ridiculous blackmail plot. Brooke and Taylor’s dialogue about them hugging….I’m sure if the scene had lasted 15 seconds longer it would’ve have ended with them kissing.
  2. I read that this morning here as well: https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/656244/soap-star-dies-rita-mclaughlin-walter-as-the-world-turns-carol/ Carol is one of ATWT’s golden age heroines that always intrigued me the most. May Rita rest in peace.
  3. Ah I can see it now…. Lauren and Christine are at Crimson Lights as they talk about what a wonderful man Paul was in past tense. Michael arrives and asks why the two ladies look so grim…Christine smiles and reminds Michael it’s the one year anniversary of Paul’s death. Victor & Nikki arrive and give Christine their sympathies as they remember what day it is as Nikki talks about how much she misses Paul. Sharon and Chance talk about how they miss Paul and how his and Rey’s back to back deaths have made it difficult. Sharon casually mentions Patty had a fatal overdose after hearing the news of Paul’s death. Abby overhears this and later shared with Devon that she feels bad she didn’t know about Paul’s death or that Chance was struggling with it too.
  4. Ah, Danny & Cricket redux. The flashbacks were good, obviously the first one was from 1994 while I think the second one came from the 6/1/2012 episode. However sad to see Christine all alone moping around thinking about Danny…plus Christine follows Phyllis on Instagram…? The Daniel, Danny, and Phyllis scenes were a highlight and poignant. Meanwhile as @janea4oldmentioned in the spoiler forum, in case no one has watched today’s yet the Billy/Chelsea scenes are bizarre (unbreakable egg game?) and FF-worthy.
  5. LOL I had to laugh at the fact the Forresters just spent having a cheerful Christmas only to fire Thomas on the night after Christmas. And who holds a nighttime board meeting?
  6. 1997 was the the first year CBS did holiday classics to the best of my knowledge, and Oh you’re absolutely right about the Y&R 1987 date, but I recall they reaired B&B’s 1992 Christmas episode in 1997, but ran the Lake Como behind the scenes special on NYE. Now a year later Y&R reaired Christmas 1988 (complete with Brad in a cage lol) along with B&B re-airing the Lake Como behind the scenes special. You’re welcome!!! And not sure who played Zimmerman. David Lander as I recall played Mike’s brother’s Marty Guthrie SOD made a big deal of his casting lol. I can’t remember off the top of my head on how Mike played into the scheme, except it was only a couple weeks after James & Sheila’s disastrous wedding in which both Connor and Molly and I think ever Jessica showed up for randomly lol. Sheila was in still in the hospital recovering from her suicidal jump.
  7. I can’t find it anywhere uploaded, but B&B’s Christmas 1997 episode was definitely one of the show’s finest holiday episodes. All I could find was the daily recap for 12/24/97 and 12/26/27 @YRfan23 and l@sheilaforever Stephanie is determined not to let Ridge and Taylor throw away the love they share. She is counting on the two of them being able to talk out their differences. Taylor arrives and when Ridge shows up, they both realize it is not a coincidence. Maggie and Mike are planning to break up James and Sheila. Both of them feel it is not right that James and Sheila are together. Mike tells an uncertain Maggie that they can pull this off since he is a pro at what they are planning. Part of the plan is to take Sheila out of the hospital. Mike produces a document in which he has forged Sheila's signature to release her from the hospital. Mike also has a doctor waiting to take care of Sheila's needs. Just where is he planning on taking her, Maggie asks. You will find out soon enough. One thing is certain, there is no turning back now, Mike says. James brings Mary by the hospital to a delighted Sheila. James' Christmas wish is for Sheila to get better and for the three of them to spend the holiday together. James plans on staying with Sheila through Christmas Eve night and all day Christmas. Sheila says the doctors are thinking about moving her to a rehabilitation center. James says there is no need for that, he will take care of her. Sheila feels so blessed because of her life with James and Mary. At Taylor's, Thorne reads a note Taylor left for him explaining she went to his mother's house early because Stephanie wanted to talk to her about something. Thorne wonders what Stephanie is up to. He calls Brooke and she says Ridge left for Stephanie's early also. Thorne dashes out to Brooke's. At Brooke's house, Thorne tells Brooke that Taylor and Ridge are alone with Stephanie. Brooke says the Queen will stop at nothing to get Ridge and Taylor back together. Brooke and Thorne worry that Taylor will crack under Stephanie's pressure and tell Ridge the truth. Stephanie wants Ridge and Taylor to focus on what is important. She knows they are in love with each other and nothing will convince her otherwise. If they are honest with one another, there is nothing they can't overcome. Taylor asks Ridge if this baby were his, what would he do? Would he still marry Brooke? Ridge says he would want to marry Taylor but asks her why she is asking him this since the child she is carrying is Thorne's. Taylor asks Ridge again, if the child she is carrying were his, could they share a life together? Before Ridge can answer Taylor's question, Brooke and Thorne pop in. Brooke says now that her parents are in town for the wedding, all that is left is for she and Ridge to say I do. Stephanie toasts Christmas. She asks for each of them to put aside their differences. Stephanie wishes God to give each of them the wisdom to look in their hearts and take the right path in life. ‌Friday December 26 1997: The Forresters gather around the dinner table and enjoy Stephanie's usual excellent meal. The kids are visiting their grandfather Logan. Things are going smoothly until Thorne makes a toast to Ridge and Brooke's upcoming wedding. Eric then has to toast to Thorn and Taylor's child, which makes Taylor uncomfortable. After dinner, as everyone is headed into the living room, Thorne mentions that Taylor and Ridge were into something heavy when he and Brooke arrived. He reminds her of the reason she is keeping the secret and that nothing has happened to change that. But Taylor is intent on finding out about that. Maggie and Mike complete their arrangements by phone for the kidnapping of Sheila. As Maggie is on her way out, James comes to the door. Maggie thinks he is interested in getting back with her and the baby, but James says his place is with Sheila and the baby. Maggie calls Sheila insane, but James is not staying with her as a therapist, he says. Sheila has not shown any signs of being a lunatic, James tells Maggie. Maggie is afraid that Sheila will destroy James. She is the woman who truly loves James. As Maggie touches James' face, he pulls away. James tells her honestly that he has not seen any sign of demons. He leaves, but Maggie is still sure that Sheila will hurt James if she doesn't stop her---and that is exactly what she is going to do. In the hospital, Mike awaits his brother's arrival. Sheila signs the permit papers for her transfer, including a responsibility waiver because the center she has chosen is one that they are not familiar with. The doctor also gives her a sedative to make the transfer more comfortable. She relaxes with her teddy bear and a picture of Mary. Taylor and Ridge talk. He wonders what is bothering her. She says it is so difficult hearing him talk about his wedding next week. She has been trying to do the right thing for everybody, especially the baby. She wonders about the answer to her earlier question. What she needs to know is if he would marry her for love or obligation. Answer it honestly, she pleads. It is the most important question she will ever ask him. Mike and his brother arrive for Sheila. Sheila expected Dr. Zimmerman, but he explains that Dr. Z. is busy. Sheila can call her husband from the Recovery Center. They move Sheila to the stretcher, but the nurse wonders why the aide is wearing a mask. Mike gives a cough to prove he has a cold. As they leave the room, Mike stays behind and leaves the forged letter on the bed. As Taylor and Ridge talks, Brooke and Thorne look on worriedly. Before they can interrupt the conversation, Stephanie offers them coffee. "Mother, you don't know what you are doing," Thorne tells her. "I am hoping the truth will come out," Stephanie answers. James arrives at the hospital to help in the transfer of Sheila to the Recovery Center. He is confused when the doctor tells him that Sheila has already left. He walks into Sheila's empty room with flowers and finds the letter. "Dear James," he reads. "First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for me this past week. You saved my life, but more than that, you gave my child back her mother. I'll always be grateful, more than I can possibly put into words. Now it is time for me to recover my strength and try to put my life back together. This is something I must do on my own. As much as love and appreciate your support, I must ask you to respect my need for privacy. This is essential to my spiritual and mental well being. So take care of yourself and our precious baby and don't try to contact me. One other thing, as you know, I have completely forgiven Maggie and I feel it is time for you to do the same. So look within your heart for forgiveness. Be well, Sheila." James is totally bewildered. Bates Motel: It is a scary sight to behold the "Recover Center" atop a high hill with a series of steps leading up to it. Thank goodness, we don't see Sheila having to walk up those steps, but inside she is forced to walk up the stairs with only James and his brother supporting her by her arms. The doctor is pretty rough and when Mike calls him on it, he answers that he knows what he is doing. Sheila almost collapses to the floor. Sheila finally arrives at the bedroom, which is outfitted pretty decently for a hospital or kidnapping. Maggie is there with a mask on. A sedated Sheila wants to call James, but the doctor tells her that she isn't allowed to use the phone. Maggie tells her that phones are off limits. Sheila discovers that this is no recovery facility. She recognizes both Mike and Maggie when they remove their masks. ‌‌‌ "Welcome to your worse nightmare!" Maggie tells her.
  8. Christmas 1989, reaired on Christmas 1998. They left the original end music in tack but used the 1993-99 style closing credits instead, odd.
  9. I thought after the disaster that was Thanksgiving 2021 with the show would finally end these ridiculous pointless dream/fantasy episodes. But indeed Friday’s episode was a boring lump of coal that wasn’t necessary at all or needed. It would have been a lot more interesting had we seen everyone’s Christmas parties with Mariah and Tessa making a big Christmas miracle coming true announcement at the end. A tragic waste of time for the cast, production, and us the viewers.
  10. Oh for sure I can totally see resentment of Courtney Hope getting more airtime and getting types of storylines that Sharon and/or Phyllis would have gotten say 10 years ago. I had guessed MS and AL as AL is a “recent hire” and for the fact that AL has moped the floor with MS a few times now in the confrontation scenes lol. But I could see MS being totally threatened by either CH or AL. Then there is also Zuleyka Silver, who’s character Audra is a rising presence in multiple orbits between Nate, Tucker, Noah, and now from Thursday’s episode Chance?
  11. It was always said Brad in a cage propelled Y&R to #1 lol but it occurred at a time when other soaps were also in flux. I’m not sure about the ABC soaps but I recall Y&R’s other nearest competitor Days went into serious creative and ratings decline in 1989. In spite of the soap mags criticism at the time 1990 was stronger year for Y&R which gave way to IMO Y&R’s 2nd golden age of 1991-94. Cassandra’s final story with the marriage to Brad was utterly bizarre and nonsensical. Bell of course would later try again the femme fatale role with Mari Jo Mason.
  12. I’ve always wondered how Y&R would have been had they kept Nina Arvesen as Cassandra through the whole 90’s. I know Victor and Cassandra were paired together, briefly but if say Cassandra had married Victor instead of Ashley, ho boy that would have been a very tumultuous relationship especially imaging Heather Tom as Victoria dealing with Cassandra as a step mother for years instead. 1989 was interesting year for Y&R as the show was in flux. Certainly it was a monumental year as Phillip III’s death and the loss of Jabot would set the show’s tone for the 90’s, but as you mentioned the main leading ladies really were on the back burner. A divorced Nikki didn’t do much except date Cricket’s dad Jim Grainger lol. Traci was written out after it didn’t work out with Brad and Tim Sullivan’s exit/death(?), BE Ashley had nothing to do, and Jill and Katherine were in a vacuum between Phillip III’s death and the arrival of Marge. Lauren and Jack didn’t work out, and with Brad and Paul preoccupied Lauren settled with third rate Scott.
  13. 1. My guess is a male performer at either Y&R, Days, or GH. Maybe Greg Rikarrt or Greg Vaughn? 2. Hard to tell could be anyone. 3. Mark Grossman and Courtney Hope? 4. Michelle Stafford and Alison Lanier? 5. Either Days or Y&R
  14. I know what you mean. It was fun to see Victor & Nikki’s ‘84 wedding a few years back but it’s been played a couple of times since then. It’d be nice to see something “new” that hasn’t been rerun before but alas. At least it isn’t Michael & Lauren’s 2005 wedding, which got reran like 5 or 6 times lol.
  15. Just a heads up but the 10/2/1991 episode from the Masquerade Ball is going to be reran next Friday December 30th. I believe if I recall right this episode was previously reran pretty early in the pandemic back in April 2020 @YRfan23 @janea4old
  16. LOL the scenes of Lt Baker, Finn, and Steffy in the Forrester boardroom listening in to Sheila’s car chase were hilariously campy as hell. I actually was expecting some type of fakeout I.e. cops accidentally pull over Pam & Charlie lol by mistake but apparently Sheila can beat LAPD on the I-405 😅😂
  17. Don’t worry knowing Days & Carlivati we’ll have Braun back making her triumphant return as Taylor 🙈
  18. RIP indeed! His famous AMC work aside and some of those 1960’s eps I’ve seen, I always remember how badly the show mishandled his return in the 90’s. I initially liked The Bauer/Blue feud and a potential renewed relationship with Lillian but they were all completely squandered very quickly.
  19. How did I miss this thread today? 😂 As I just mentioned in the Y&R thread and echoing the sentiments of others it’s a mistake that JG has been left in complete charge given his track record over the years. Yeesh. They needed to let him go as well. Thudley writing Y&R? Short term would be fun long term it would end in catastrophe no doubt about that. Messing with the Chancellor set lol…guess no one learns lessons. It’s similar to how Latham, MAB, and Young all were fired not long after writing out Ashley. And PS @Paul Raven I giggled, could totally see that as an Onion article headline. 😄 Is Kent still over Y&R and Days? It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen his name. I remember he use to obviously micromanage the show based on his interviews but I haven’t seen him speak on behalf of Y&R for a long time now. Guess he doesn’t care anymore?
  20. Long overdue especially given Morina’s alleged bad behavior but seriously leaving JG completely in charge to keep letting the show rot is a mistake, they both should have been let go.
  21. HT last airdate: 2/21/97 SA first airdate: 4/2/97 SA last airdate 7/18/97 HT return airdate: 10/3/97 I don’t recall how Tom left although I wonder if Aldrich was supposed to be permanent as she was even added to the opening credits lol.
  22. When this news first surfaced last year I recall it sounded like VI has been long estranged from the ex-wife and kids for time with the ex being looney…but of course that came off a gossip rag site I have zero clue how the son was negatively influenced in the first place.
  23. The initial Nick/Grace one night stand was a pretty tawdry affair and in a way was opposite of what happened with Caroline/Ridge, Dru/Malcolm, and later Ridge/Brooke. Nick was so intoxicated he really thought he was making love to Sharon, but Grace,, living with the pair and having a secret crush on Nick more than happily used it to her advantage and let Nick continue. Yeesh. But for sure I would say the Sharon/Nick/Grace/Cassie stuff, Danny finally discovering the truth about most of Phyllis’ deceptions, the return of Michael, and Veronica Landers surfacing would definitely set Y&R in a better direction than it was headed.
  24. I joked in jest earlier this year that Ron Carlivati was going to start referencing old NBC soaps for giggles looks like maybe he read my post? 😅
  25. LOL isn’t that about the case for all of them? Steffy married Liam three times, had the marriage to Wyatt, and now with Finn. Liam has married both Hope and Steffy three times and also had the marriage to Ivy. Hope married Liam three times, had the marriage to Wyatt and and the marriage to Thomas. Oddly Thomas has only been married twice, once with Gabriela and then with Hope in spite of the plethora of women come and gone.
