Ratings from the 60's
I always wondered why it took so long for Search for Tomorrow and The Guiding to be expanded from 15 to 30 minutes. I think they got higher ratings than Love of Life and The Secret Storm but the latter 2 expanded earlier even Brighter Day.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
For long time fans this is a question I have had When Barbara entered in 1978 played by Coleen Zenk she was engaged to Stephen I believe. He broke off the wedding because of a deep dark secret. This seems like an abrupt aborted storyline. Does anyone know where this was headed and why it ended the way it did?

Interesting that Guiding Light was ahead of its lead in Search

Just watched this tribute. Very well done and an honor to Kathryn Hays as Kim. Alan usually gets a lot of criticism but did a great job. Colleen made an appearance. Wonder why Marie Masters wasn’t on Favorite line from Don “There weren’t any powers that be for the last 10 years of the show “

Ratings from the 70's
Expanding The Doctors to an hour would probably have been more successful than all the scenarios involving Another World 90 minute experiment. It did fairly well in ratings. Maybe the writing team and CP held off expansion like Bill Bell and Agnes Nixon did for quality reasons. I do believe the expansions took away focus on most shows Another World would probably have suffered decline no matter what at 3 with the Gloria Monty General Hospital “miracle”. The. 90 minute debacle helped to decline even more. The Doctors was the biggest victim after Another World going back to 60 minutes and Texas premier moving TD to 12:30 then 12. (I liked Texas. My roommates and I watched at 11 in college I don’t think NBC ever regained success in the 3 to 4 slot after this …Texas.Chips reruns, Fantasy,Match Game/Hollywood Squares hour, Santa Barbara. I think the network gave affiliates the option of airing Sunset Beach at 12 or 3

This perfomer would have been good in that role
Penny Hughes was unsuccessfully recast after Rosemary Prinz left. If they would have waited several years might have worked. But who? Erika Slezak from OLTL maybe?

NBC daytime broadcast offerings will be all news. I wonder if many affiliates will not carry the news show

Not the best time for the show. And they had the gull to shove Conner and Mark down our throats on the 40th anniversary show

When the show went off the air, who was the longest cast member? There were a few return appearances like Peter Simon and Maureen Garrett, but that probably doesn't count. I'm thinking Roger Newman, Maeve Kinkaid, or Billy Lewis (Jordon Clarke) Of course they all had gaps where they left and returned.

I’ve been watching clips of James Spaulding and Daisy (Susan). I like these two as a couple and I don’t try to give myself a headache about the logistics of their ages with SORAS and delayed SORA Hard for me to get used to the gimmicky production format of the final months The constant vocal music backgrounds….dialogue and plots and timing almost cartoonish or like a sit com (Bill Lewis in jail for James Ponzi scheme…anything with Lizzie) Some of the outdoor scenes are nice and reunions at the barbecue and final weeks Alan Spaulding’s death was fairly good closure although the goodbyes and bonding with Alexandria seemed to forget things weren’t all rosy with these two

My memory may not be clear but I do know she was seeing somebody else at the same time as the minister. It could have been Don

She was dating two men at the time. The minister and Simon Gilbey played by Jerry Lacy. Don and the phantom pregnancy may have been after that

I’ve been watching YouTube clips from around summer 1966. This is before I started watching around 1969 or so Very good writing from Agnes Nixon. 15 minute format and all storylines connected. Bill Bauers alcoholism.. aftermaths of affair with Maggie Scott..Maggie’s marriage to controlling diabolical Ben Scott..Johnny Fletcher and Peggy young love..Robin Fletcher blaming Johnny for loss of her baby…Ed played by Robert Gentry bitter over his father and budding relationship with Leslie Storylines were domestic believable issues for the day as opposed to clones, demonic possession, time travel plots of later years. I felt Bert made excuses for Bill’s behavior and Ed was made out to be the heavy but there’s loads of issues with Alcoholism and how it affects families.

Thank you for that information. The ratings certainly did increase during most of Harding Lemay’s time

Very good interview with Harding Lemay and very talented man. Did he inherit the Alice/ Steve / Rachel storyline? He said ratings were down which is why he was hired but this storyline was very popular. Maybe all writers claim they saved their vehicles from destruction. He also said the push for hour shows ended up with creating more characters with 2 minute scenes to fill time He was one writer who was skilled enough to write longer quality scenes for the hour format

Good to see Pat Bruder. Pretty good interview. I would have liked to have heard more about her time on ATWT. Her favorite storylines least favorite. How she felt about character being aged Surprised she didn’t experience Irma disapproving of her doing things out of character on broadway. Was that just Rosemary Prinz that received the wrath?
