Hard to believe it’s been 24 years since this show went off

The affiliates would want their noon newscasts. CBS affiliates nixed the idea of giving up the 1 to 1:30 slot in the east for 45 minute versions of Search and World Turns Stations would have probably put The Doctors in early morning slot or preempted altogether.

The affiliates would never have gone with giving up that much local time to the network

When Search moved to 2:30 was there much shift in ratings? I don’t think so. I think the dip happened before the switch It seemed like a good decision sandwiched between similar P and G shows ATWT and GL If so then why would P and G fight so hard to put it back at 12:30? And then the move to NBC killed it going against Y&R and affiliate preemptions P and G did a good job of destroying Search and Edge

I can understand how the ABC soap lineup during this time period soared. I was in college during late 70s and early 80s. It was an unwritten rule that lounges were locked on ABC from 12:30 to 4. I was interested in All My Children and watched bits and pieces of the other 3. The writing was at its peak with Phoebe and the conflicts with Chuck and Donna (ex hooker with Billy Clyde, Estelle) as well as other great stories. OLTL had the Karen Marco Dane stuff and GH was starting the Monty era Many probably watched at home during breaks. I was still loyal to CBS but maybe I was the exception. Young and Restless was still kind of obscure in a remote 12 noon slot. It may have taken a while for CBS to be recognized as having programming other than traditional fare for parents and grandparents. Y & R may have not done so well at 1 to 2 head to head with AMC which is probably why they insisted on 12:30

At least he was sort of familiar with the show when he was permanent later on

Another World was the first to expand in 1975 and Young and Restless was last in 1980 I think it would have hurt Search to expand. It definitely would have lost the focus on the main heroine CBS proposed the idea of expanding Search and ATWT to 45 minutes but affiliates did not want to give up that 1 to 1:30 Eastern time slot

This was a great period. All the vets were featured. Slow moving, long conversations, and character development. Loved the Bennet Hadley story. I think the Stewart’s had just lost Dan so Kim and Betsy were grieving This period gave way to the “modernization “ period with split scenes and action oriented plots. I guess I see the need to do that to compete with shows like All My Children that were making inroads. My issue is it put veterans in situations out of character. Not to mention that this next period gave us the super exciting Brad and Dee stuff

CBS hasn’t had a good track record when taking over soaps. They ran this one into the ground before selling it back to American Home Products. They eventually did the same with Love of Life. And their in house productions Where the Heart Is and Love is a Many Spendord Thing ran about 5 years with struggles

Were Kathy and Scott Phillips connected to Jo or the Bergmans? How were they introduced to the show? I started watching in the mid 70s when Jennifer Pace was involved with Scott I

I am loving these clips. Such a great time for the show This was their 30th anniversary celebration. Y and R just celebrated their 50th (congratulations great job still going strong) and GH is 60. ATWT and EON would have been 67 tomorrow and in 3 years70. Just think if they were nurtured correctly they could still be around to celebrate

What did Lucinda’s businesses actually do or make Walsh and Worldwide? For that matter not sure of what any of the soaps companies did except for Jabot Cosmetics and Forestors and Lewis Oil and Corey Publishing. Product was not important but family and corporate intrigue was So do not know what Spauldings, Quartermains, Chancellor Industries actually did. I probably missed it Although I read somewhere that Phillip Chancellor dealt with tobacco even though he got on Katherine for smoking Sorry for getting off subject for other soaps

Lyla had challenges with all her kids at one time or another. Margo at first was rebellious and carrying on with James Steinbeck. cricket was a total vixen. Katie was a schemer trying to get Holden And then there’s Craig. Sort of sympathized with him during the Steve Betsy triangle and Sierra but he was a complete monster when he returned

Just watched a 1954 clip with Joanne and Hazel Tate. I wonder what the backstory was. I think she was claiming to be Arthur Tates long lost wife but was really her sister. It also seems people tried to get control of that Inn

I hate the way veteran characters and actors were removed and history removed. I loved the character of Sara Mcintire, a strong professional woman. She was good at helping people with their problems but had a horrible track record with her choices of husbands I think a lot of the actors like Millete Alexander had had enough of soap acting. She retired from acting and focused on her passion of classical piano, Pat Bruder talks more of her theater projects than her time on ATWT as Ellen Loved Barbara Berger. At least TPTB realized how important veteran actors are after the fan outcry over the death of Beatrice on AW played by Berger It was good that the Bauer legacy was used with Mary Stuart as Meta Bauer Although probably never referenced I’ve seen synopses where this character was very prominent in 50s and 60s storylines

I read the character synopsis for Cricket Montgomery. She was quite the slut. Would have given Julie Wendell a run for her money

I liked the 1999 to 2002 opening. I thought it was cool having video shots on the globe. Gave a sense of history And the last year let’s just not have a theme song. Translates as cheap. And did they really need the extra time to show “good” story?

Not sure what one is the Lifesavors theme. Is that the one with all sorts of explosions?

Gotta give NBC credit for taking risks and trying after this peak although most either failed miserably or the network had no patience. Hidden Faces, introduction of 60 minute AW and DOOL, spin-off- Somerset and Lovers and Friends / For Richer or Poorer, Generations, 90 minute Another World debacle, Texas, Santa Barbara, Sunset Beach, Search for Tomorrow

They shoved the Kasnofs down our throats during this time period although I liked Sean Christian was this also when they did that silly thing about Carly’s inheritance depending on pregnancy? Sorry I tuned out at that point so details are sketchy

I’m thinking they could have honored Charita Bauer like the excellent way Young and Restless did with Jeanie Cooper where actors and family reminisced with clips. They could have then had previous actors come back
