When first hired, Kate Mansi definitely said the endometriosis storyline interested her because she has that condition herself and wants to raise awareness. She didn't comment on the surrogacy storyline, as it hadn't been revealed when she was first hired (even though many viewers guessed Kristina would become the surrogate). In my opinion, there were/are other ways Molly's endometriosis could have been in storylines without a pregnancy story. There could have been mentions about her pain and symptoms, (but of course I realize that's not as soapy as surrogacy by sister). Lily Brooks O'Briant (teen actress who plays Lucy Romalotti on Y&R) has endometriosis in real life and talks about it on her instagram, and had a surgical procedure. I learned a lot from reading her ig, and wasn't bored from her stories and videos. I found it more interesting than anything in the GH fictional storyline.
