DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)
John Black had a million origin stories and identity crises but because of Drake, and the magnetic orbit of his entire onscreen (and offscreen) persona you always knew he knew where home was. That's what made him so wonderful and what also makes this so sad.

I know just how you feel. When more of the OLTL and GH folks start to go (though some already have) I'll be the same. But even if I stopped regularly watching years ago it's very sad for any of us who grew up watching Days, or watched at any point in the last nearly 40 years. John Black is an institution.- DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)
People underrate him to this day. There is not a woman Drake did not have chemistry with and there is not a scene he phoned in. Ever. People always remember the goofy shít and make fun of him too much but there is a reason they did the Two Romans, there is a reason they didn't just swap him back out with Wayne Northrop. When Drake was on he was the epitome of the genre and he did great, great work. Just devastating.- DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)

I remember her. I thought she was a pistol and commented on it somewhere in here but I can't recall what I said, really.- The Politics Thread
Gallup is entitled to their take. I don't agree with it or trust them because I know what Gallup has always been, or Politico which always roots for Republicans. Like some pollsters, I remain unconvinced this election will be that close. Of course I also didn't think 2020 would be that close and it was, but I did know 2012 wouldn't be when the media insisted otherwise. So I'm bound to be either definitely right or totally wrong! I can't lose! Speaking of Gallup's slanted nonsense, Atlas Intel out of Brazil has parachuted in with another set of outlier and unusual Republican-leaning state polls, which appears to be their brand this cycle as they move towards becoming Rasmussen 2.0. They also insisted Herschel Walker would win by 4 points, so I'm not putting huge stock in them (or posting them). This is the season when the right starts pushing junk polls and outliers to try and skew perception, just like the last several cycles.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Elaine Princi was quite good, but she was always just doing a riff on Robin's past work. Robin even told the story of how Rauch said everyone would forget all about her, that he'd hired a doppelganger to stick it to her for taking off and refusing to return in '90 IIRC. The actors were a near match physically (intentionally so) and from what I've seen Princi's portrayal was as dependent on the writing as any other - she got good material as Malone and Gottlieb settled in and did very well, but before and after that when they wrote Dorian histrionic and broad, she was too. Some of her reactions in the Alex mess with Bo and Cassie in mid-'91 are vintage Dorian ham. Robin could certainly go OTT in later years, but there's no contest for me. After Pinkerton was gone (who doesn't remind me of either of them, from what little is sadly out there of her) Robin was the blueprint.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I believe he's on contract, so hopefully they do have some story in mind. I just don't have any good expectations for this creative team.- The Politics Thread
I think it is likelier Harris wins and appoints Pete somewhere vs. vice versa. But who knows.- The Media/Journalism Thread

Bad and bad for Trump, with Robinson in the mix:- GH: Character recast
When I heard about this not long ago I groaned at the obvious casting choice, but Van does look good and seems in good humor in his new interview. I'll give it a chance, I guess.- GH: September 2024 Discussion Thread
Supposedly Korte is a fan of Anna as well. The problem is all their stories for her are miserable. Brennan is still a glorified dayplayer to me and a waste of time. It was obvious he was just another thug in PM's Pikeman story, then they began muddling around trying to make him work as an actual love interest for Carly as the latest attempt at Jarly hit the skids. I've long had plans for scheming gay Alec, lol. Though I think he would probably pal up with schemer Joss as her mini-me for a bit before coming into his own and turning over a slightly better leaf, a la Brenda.- GH: September 2024 Discussion Thread

Oh man: Non-paywall version of the VF piece. I doubt Nuzzi (among others, possibly) can survive this at NY Magazine, not that I thought they would be able to keep her period. Her descent was always inevitable to me, it's only coming faster.- The Politics Thread
Good for Stevie. I'll listen to that later. I take no pleasure in posting Nate Silver, but even he admits the fundamentals of the race as his new MAGA fanbase revolts: - DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)
