  1. Ron, luckily, has no creative power as he's just a breakdown writer. Previously, the Bell and P&G soaps existed in the same universe. Do we think BTG will take place in the same universe (if loosely) as the Bell soaps? Will the Newman's and Forrester's suddenly mentioning having business dealings with the Dupree's? lol
  2. I think releasing the trailer to Essence first says a lot about the core demographic CBS is prioritizing for this show - black women. Yes, I am sure they want a wider base of viewers, but black women over-index for daytime viewership and that is the demographic this show will need to be strong in to be a lasting success. They've said as much about this unserved demographic when the show was first greenlit as well. The type of commercials buying airspace on the show should be interesting as well. I have to believe products specifically geared to black women will be given a priority (as they should).
  3. CBS has the video Unlisted on YouTube for some reason so that is impacting its ability to pick up more views - Unlisted videos on YouTube are not picked up by the algorithm because they are intentionally set to not appear in search results or on a channel's public video listings. So, I guess, Essence posted that article a lot sooner than CBS was probably intending to release the extended trailer to the masses, lol.
  4. It was like the entire production (including actors) was dipped in Vaseline, and then pushed into sets lit like your nearest Costco warehouse. Way too many blondes running around in pastel colors for a while too. Luckily, wardrobe, hair, and makeup seem to be on point for BTG.
  5. It could all look different once post-production is final or if it’s run under some type of filter then. We’ll have to see when the show premieres. In addition to hair and makeup, lighting is incredibly important on a show made up of actors of colour. A lot shows have long misunderstood that unfortunately.
  6. Essence is also sharing/promoting the trailer on their social media outlets. That’s nice and encouraging.
  7. Tamara Tunis looks like a queen throughout the entire extended promo. I loved the soapy window shot of her towards the end of the extended promo. Julie Hannan Carruthers’ pre-LA AMC was similarly lit - in this situation, though, I hope it’s more of a case of them being new, trying to find their own signature look, and making easy/fixable changes with more feedback/time.
  8. CBS seems to be very methodical with how and when they’re releasing promotional content for the show. Shows that there’s an actual plan and commitment there which is great. I think (hope) the Paul Rauch-homage lighting design will change as time goes on.
  9. That promo still holds up - that story was oddly both the best and worst thing that could’ve happened to the show. I’ve lost count of how many times they’ve tried to recreate it since.
  10. Beyond the commercials, I'm interested in what type of press tour CBS will give the show in February. Will some of the actors appear on CBS Mornings orThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert? What about Black-owned media properties like Essence? There really is no traditional soap press anymore either.
  11. This show badly need to move on from the Frank Valentini era. It’s stuck in this continuous rut it will never get out of. Hoping Beyond The Gates inspires change across the daytime soaps if successful.
  12. We’re lucky they didn’t just “lightly” redress the same GCAC room they used to give to everyone on this show.
  13. There's at least some thought put into it, which I don't think would have happened had Ed Scott not returned to work with the production designers.
  14. Jane Elliot and the late Gerald Anthony were a hoot together. It’s crazy to think Anthony won an Emmy for playing Marco Dane on GH and not OLTL.
  15. From that segment, it seems like Julie Hanna Carruthers was very much in charge of leading production. I thought most of her AMC run and Port Charles were horribly lit under her watch, tbh. Whatever, hoping, it looks better once it goes through post-production.
  16. I guess? It was a hit and run, and Dorian was the driver.
  17. That disgusting woman needs a hobby to take her mind off her guilty ass husband.
  18. JFP’s OLTL started to significantly outperform the rest of the ABC Daytime lineup in W18-49 for a period of time (not just the Georgie story, but the misguided story of Dorian causing Jessica’s miscarriage also had high demos). That’s what partly led to ABC giving her the job at GH.
  19. I just hate that it will probably be all about Jason and his box of pain, when he ignored and demeaned his family by choice for most of the past 30 years.
  20. I can’t find the interview anymore, but I could have sworn Jane said her return to GH had “been in the works” for a while in 1996 but plans evolved. I could have not remembered correctly though. I think Holly left a month or so after Tracy did in 1993. In some ways, it’s hard to imagine Tracy and Holly were ever on the show under Riche. I’m not sure if Tracy would have fit in on Labine’s GH interpretation. Labine might have loved the black comedy inherent to Tracy’s character, but Tracy was already one of the more complex female GH characters before that era, so she didn’t really need a ton of tweaking.
  21. Tracy’s 1993 exit, in some ways, reminds me a lot of how British soaps often wrote out important female characters - all of their core relationships crumbling, sentimental moments with some of those key relationships, and leaving with baggage, but also hope for the future. Jane did come back for that stint in 1996 before going over to The City. From what Jane has said, it sounded like the original plan was to have Tracy return to GH only in 1996, but when Morgan Fairchild wouldn’t renew her contract, someone at ABC had the idea to shift Tracy to The City. Were things really that bad between Riche and JE? Did JE leave on her own accord, or did Riche opt to not renew her contract? As has been said, I knew JE publicly criticized the anti-choice stance Tracy took, but was there other tension between her and Riche? @dc11786 - the music was provided by Marty Davich, who Shelley Curtis wisely brought over to GH from DAYS.
  22. Honestly, most of the people watching this game aren’t watching daytime TV live. This is more so to create awareness and word of mouth about the new show premiering. They might also hope this will drive people to sample it on Paramount+ rather than commit to tune in live each day.
  23. She seems more like the black sheep of her affluent family, maybe more so in the vein of Tracy Angelica Quartermaine.
  24. That was beautiful, and nice to get that behind the scenes view as well. Filming in Atlanta was the right move, they would never get these many nice-looking and big sets in LA or NYC.
  25. I wonder if Tamara Tunie played a role in the casting of Clifton Davis. I noticed they both co-chaired The International Black Theatre Festival that took place last summer, before any casting was ever announced for BTG.
