  1. Freevee has to do more to keep up with the likes of PlutoTV and Tubi TV which have both been experiencing an upsurge of streaming views. FAST has become increasingly competitive, which I figured it would, once the numbers took off.
  2. In a surprise to absolutely no one, Kevin Spacey has been acquitted of the sexual assault charges in the U.K. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/kevin-spacey-uk-trial-verdict-not-guilty-1235543727/#!
  3. What’s going on with Mitch McConnell neurologically/physiologically?
  4. How sad and unfortunate. Sometime today or tomorrow, I will have to pull out my copy of “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got” and try to give it a listen. May she R.I.P.
  5. Maybe another casualty of war, but this rings as sad nonetheless. How War Destroyed a ‘Long and Happy Marriage’ It seemed as if one partner viewed the relationship as having run its course. It happens, still sad though.
  6. Glad to see that Leanna Love’s time was not a one-off for the 50th anniversary. I had been wanting to see her back since Eric Braden’s 40th anniversary, when Victor was supposed to be working on his memoir-I had been imagining all the possibilities had Leanna Love tried to beat Victor to the punch and released a reissue of Ruthless. Could you have imagined Leanna on Hilary’s GC Buzz making the announcement? As much as I disliked the entire GC Buzz aspect, I always thought a visit by Leanna Love and having BC and MM mixing it up would have injected some life into that whole dynamic. Too bad, but good for BC, have fun and scoop up that check on the way out.
  7. It seemed as if Nancy Giles was performing some type of MC duties for this rally but I only saw the tail end of the speeches.
  8. This entire article rates a big ‘Well, duh!’ from me. But I guess this is for the blissfully unaware who choose to believe that there is only one type of Affirmative Action. https://archive.ph/Paw7d
  9. The likes of Netflix, Prime, (HBO)Max were able to get into the motion picture industry and find success in the first place was because the movie business had become so ossified in an endless stream (no pun intended) of action blockbusters and predictable sequels, with no thought to originality, citing risk aversion. At the time, the streamers were offering something that the movie industry was unwilling to offer which was variety. Personally, I think the entire entertainment industry needs substantial change (film, theater, television) in just about every aspect-there is such stagnation throughout.
  10. The Hopman Cup returned and apparently I missed it. The Hopman Cup, named after that great Australian player and coach was held in…France?
  11. Thanks to your alt-Twitter suggestion @Vee, I was able to read some of Harris tweets and I do hope what he said about what actually drove people to the cinema in large numbers this weekend is really the case (marketing over memes) because it can possibly be a way to break the cycle of too-online culture feeding the troughs of the likes of Netflix, Disney+ and Max and bringing about some parity. And most importantly the statement about creativity and audiences seeing something that they hadn’t seen before versus more of the same being the biggest force that sent them to the cinema to see Barbie and Oppenheimer in droves really strengthens the statements of screenwriters and actors who are now trying to assert their rights to their fair share of the profits. I always thought that streaming would be helpful to the future of entertainment but I guess I always just thought of this in terms of shows that had no other ‘place to go’ in terms of platforms, like classic shows, cancelled soaps and also indie/foreign/art house films that would otherwise be ignored by mainstream movie theaters—like how Netflix used to do, many moons ago.
  12. I consider Threads to be an extension of Instagram, so those who already have Instagram accounts are the ones who flocked to Threads. I didn’t really expect people outside of the Meta/Facebook/Instagram to join en masse, especially after the head of Instagram said that Threads has no interest in news or being a news aggregator in the way that Twitter had become known for.
  13. The devolution of Twitter, or the social media network formerly known as Twitter is just bizarre to observe. Many people, myself included, suspected that the name would be changed to X but it seems to have changed overnight, with no advance notice. If I were a company, especially a news company, or any company that cares about its brand, I would stop dawdling on Twitter/X or whatever they decide to call themselves today and diversify to other social media platforms because the social media platform of Musk is just unstable and may very well become unsustainable soon. And these brands, along with their millions of followers may be lost on a sinking ship. I am observing users on other social media platforms wondering aloud about how to download their data, and I am thinking “Uh hun, shouldn’t you have had a plan for how to do this 6 months ago? Threads, which was the big sensation a week and a half ago, has already dropped. I guess, it has already reached critical mass with all the Instagram users having already signed on by now.
  14. Oh wow, thanks. I had heard the name but wasn’t familiar with what was involved.
  15. Since I dumped Twitter, I can no longer see threads. Oh well.
  16. Wow, tennis seems to have some ugly incident occurring just about every day, it seems. https://www.tennis.com/news/articles/hungarian-grand-prix-under-review-wta-racist-budapest-zhang-toth-facebook
  17. It’s really sad. This girlfriend has a child with him so she’s truly tied to him.
  18. Try as the tennis media may to avoid discussion of Zverev’s DV/assault allegations, this consistent recurrence of such charges will make it that much more difficult for them to keep avoiding them and the implications.
  19. Lest anyone believe that only the writers and actors stand to lose the longer all parties go without an agreement, the studios stand to lose their credit worthiness as businesses, which could end up costing them about a half billion dollars a year, according to credit ratings agency Moody’s. https://deadline.com/2023/07/moodys-sag-aftra-actors-strike-wga-costing-big-media-movie-theaters-streamers-netflix-1235439559/
  20. There has always been network and executive pressures for storylines to be told in a certain manner but the soap writers of yesteryear differ from today’s soap writers in that the soap writers of previous generations were more confident in their abilities and more certain of where their stories were going, therefore they pushed back and could defend the direction of their stories. I don’t get that same sense from the likes of JG most of his colleagues in daytime soaps.
  21. My special pricing was a Black Friday promotional deal, and it runs for a year, so I will end it leading up to that time. Other than a few programs, I really don’t watch that often. I find myself watching Pluto TV more and more often these days, knowing that they stream episodes of Frasier.
  22. CBS 2 NY played a snippet of “Turn Your Love Around” by George Benson, which Chris Wragge said that it was one of Elise’s and Chris’ favorites. Love that song since I was little, it’s such a bubbly song.
  23. ATWT probably caught a lot of bad karma in its final 12+ years due to the execs doing the talent dirty from the late 90s onward.
