  1. To be honest, I haven’t been watching enough of JG’s recent writing tenure on Y&R to gauge whether he’s succeeded in correcting his problem with raising the stakes and drawing stories to a conclusion. You have probably seen more of his work than I have at this point. Do you believe he is more capable this time around of craft more complicated and complete storylines? I have said this before and I will say it again. This storyline with Cameron bequeathing his company to Sharon is very reminiscent of a storyline that aired on As The World Turns with Frannie Hughes (Julianne Moore) and Douglas Cummings (John Wesley Shipp) where Douglass leaves Frannie his fortune and at first, a traumatized Frannie wants nothing to do with it before eventually deciding to use it to help children with mental health problems. I am not sure JG has that level of commitment to sustain a storyline and keep it consistent enough to make it a permanent part of the character’s trajectory and vocation. It would be nice to be proven wrong though.
  2. I got the chance to watch a little bit of the Eubanks vs. Norrie match and Eubanks played well, very well.
  3. It seems like they want to control the platforms. They want liberals there but only to “dunk on”, otherwise they realize that they are posting to an echo chamber and it becomes boring when they only have each other and their dull minds.
  4. Don’t they have Truth Social? Why don’t they stay on that sh*tty app? Or they can just stay and go down with Twitter as it deteriorates. Wait…is Meta charging for check marks too?😂
  5. From what I remember of Brett Haber’s voice, this man didn’t sound like him. Haber likes to sound very self-assured and as if he has an air of confidence, this man was just whining. Yes, they are. Geez, they could at least make an effort to hide it. Fritz has talent but it’s not like he’s Pete Sampras or anything.
  6. I don’t know if this is true but I have heard that because IG and Threads are linked, you can’t terminate your Threads account without terminating your IG account. I would imagine that this would be unappealing even for people who already have FB, IG and WhatsApp accounts. Since I don’t nor will I be using anything Meta universe, it clearly doesn’t concern me but it does make me chuckle to see how Zuckerberg and Musk are insistent on playing out their Pete Becker fanboy fantasies.
  7. Whoever was the American commentator for the Ymer match against Fritz had me chuckling. Right up to almost the end of the match when Ymer was serving for it, he kept insisting Fritz had been in control of the match. Peter Fleming, or whoever it was “Uh sir, Fritz was in control for half the match, at best”. Fleming or whoever that commentator was seemed so confused and deflated that Fritz lost. He seemed loathe to give Ymer the slightest modicum of credit. It tickled me that he was so deflated.
  8. This is the 2nd attempt with Threads for Facebook/Meta, so they should be getting it right this time. https://www.theverge.com/2021/11/17/22787783/instagram-threads-shutting-down-meta-messaging
  9. Can’t fail the doping tests if you never take the tests, I guess.🙃
  10. Come to think of it, I have never used social media apps, always on the browsers. DDG and Firefox.
  11. I never had accounts at Facebook or Instagram.
  12. The media has hyped Meta’s Threads as the next “Twitter Killer” but apparently it won’t be available in the EU at this point since it is considered a “privacy nightmare”. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/meta-s-threads-app-is-a-privacy-nightmare-that-won-t-launch-in-eu-yet/ar-AA1dsKOB
  13. This scene is gold: Especially when Lucinda asks Craig whether he plans to marry Iva Snyder and says “…Also, find out how many other stallions were there ahead of you…” , then blows a kiss before walking out the door. Just savage, lol.
  14. My guess would be no. Tennis hasn’t even learned how to market itself properly.
  15. Yeah, I mentioned that already upthread.
  16. AI’s bias problem has always been known (and troubling) it the specifics of how this plays out in everyday life is deeply disturbing imo. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/04/arts/design/black-artists-bias-ai.html#:~:text=Artists Say A.I.-,Shows Bias%2C With Algorithms Erasing Their History, perpetuate discrimination and need improvement.&text=The artist Stephanie Dinkins has,in her Brooklyn-based practice.
  17. Yes, I definitely don’t think of Y&R as having their characters deliver these sweeping speeches the way ATWT and GL would do, which is why Neil’s speech stood out to me. Also, just this morning I read an essay that discussed how Frederick Douglass and MLK were two examples of people who loved America, yet weren’t afraid to criticize their country because they wanted it to be better. When I saw this speech, I immediately thought of that. It added so much resonance to what Neil was saying and I understood perfectly why it had to be Neil/Kristoff delivering the speech. It could really only be him.
  18. They sure did sing 2 verses and a few people stumbled on the second verse, which is, in a way very realistic because who really sings the second verse? Lol
  19. Approximately 7.36 minutes worth of scenes before the opening theme. What a time, I don’t see those times ever coming back again!
  20. What a shame. It’s odd that, all during the pandemic when they aired classic episodes, they made the episodes available for viewing on the CBS website but not this one?
  21. I saw the score. He has an idiosyncratic game, he should be interesting to watch but he’s so insufferable, it undermines all else. And perhaps due to the number of British commentators, we tend to get an overload of focus on the Brits during this tournament, which sometimes I don’t mind, but when I don’t care for the athlete, it makes it hard to take.
  22. I just got a chance to watch, courtesy of the vault. What that video file lacks in visual sharpness, it makes up for with commercials of the day the episode aired. I enjoyed it. At first, it made me a bit sad to see so many actors who we’ve obviously lost over recent years but as I delved deeper into the story, I found that it was enjoyable to revisit this time. Ashley and Brad appeared to be peeping each other out and we can figure out that Ryan’s thoughts are occupied with more than seeing Abbotts at the picnic. The Young and the Restless did something you know the current writers would be loathe to do-acknowledge the actual times we’re living in. It was obvious that Neil’s monologue was a nod to the police brutality of Rodney King and the subsequent riots in response to the verdict. KSJ really made an unimpeachable case for his character being included in my soap character Hall Of Fame speeches during the holidays. The singing afterwards towed the line, in terms of almost being too much but considering the occasion, it was appropriate, I think. But at least back then, the show wasn’t afraid to acknowledge the real world, for better and for worse.
  23. And with two roofs too! Oof, the schedule is going to be messed up unless there are no more rainy days for the rest of the tournament. I to become more engaged in the tournament but so far, I don’t know…the enthusiasm is just not there for me.
  24. This morning I saw rain delay and a tarp over the court, I just clicked out and promptly forgot about tennis for the rest of the day. So matches eventually resumed/started on the outside courts?
  25. Yikes. I wonder what kind of person buys an invite code?!
