  1. Well damn, Bob Barker and Arleen Sorkin in today’s announcements?! All these stars of daytime are just being lost to us. It’s especially sad with the lack of regard for much of classic daytime television.
  2. That whole thing with Rubiales is disgusting for so many reasons, besides being unwanted, it trampled all over what should have been a huge moment of achievement for the Spanish women’s football team. And he has the nerve to defiantly insist that it was consensual, despite the players’ words to the contrary and dig into his wrongheaded notion that he did nothing wrong. It’s good that he finally got the boot. I am really trying to not let my past experience of being in Spain when I was a college student prejudice my opinion but I encountered quite a bit of naked sexism and sexual harassment while there. I would have thought that things had changed.
  3. Wasn’t Mariah supposed to be sexually fluid? Why can’t she have a fling with Kyle? Or with Daniel, for that matter? Or is Lily in yet another sacrosanct relationship that can’t be touched? and the fact that she is Cassie’s twin and Cassie had a crush on Daniel, which always made Daniel feel somewhat guilty about her death and how it happened. Also,,Daniel just happens to be Summer’s brother. That could be unexpected and twisted at the same time. What am I saying? Y&R doesn’t write that type of emotional complexity in their stories anymore.
  4. Apparently, Trump’s aides filled out his arrest intake form in advance, hence the description of him being 6ft3 and 215 pounds, almost 30 pounds lighter than his early days in the White House and his shade of hair being described as strawberry blond, instead of a weird shade of cotton candy most likely found at the oddities section at an old-time county fair or traveling circus.
  5. Well, I know that mugshots are not usually attractive by design but oof, is this one ever unsightly! I hope that Hillary Clinton is somewhere being entertained by the spectacle. The caption was “How It Started, How It’s Going”.
  6. Mugshots incoming. I wish I could embed this, but this is the best that I can do. https://spoutible.com/thread/15578220
  7. Just disgusting. This country is still digging out of so much mess that the Trump administration has created, but I doubt she and those of her ilk would report on this, they are too busy at the trough. This is why I can’t watch CNN or cable news in general, its rare that they inform the public what we actually need to know. Just a bunch of access journalists.
  8. I can tell you that revising a script is absolutely work, no matter how anyone may try to spin things, and work needs to be compensated. The fact that the industry has been able to get away with not paying for work is insulting. Either you believe in the dignity of work, or you don’t, there’s no compromise on non-payment versus payment. Then, let it burn. Maybe from the ashes, a phoenix. They ought to start from scratch anyway.
  9. With good enough reason, as she’s said some idiotic things in the past, however, (just about) everyone has the capacity for change.
  10. ^^ These folks will go anywhere for a freebie. These are these same media people who promoted Rodney’s ridiculous notions of “makers and takers”. Well, if anyone can be called a “taker”, then surely, it’s them.
  11. Meanwhile some Wagner veterans, the majority of whom are ex-convicts, have already started committing crimes (including murder) since returning to their native Russia. Whoever thought it was a good idea to train murderers and rapists to kill at will and then later send them back to their home villages and towns? Ghouliani turned surrendered to the authorities in Fulton County. Did he ever find a lawyer to take his case?
  12. It sure does. With one daughter born in September and the other born in August, this sure seems to be the pushing season for Serena.
  13. Serena has a second baby girl with husband Alexis Ohanian.
  14. Drew Barrymore had an unfortunate encounter with an unbalanced man during an appearance at the 92nd Y last night.
  15. Seems as if Don Lemon is expressing some schadenfreude at Chris Licht’s exit at CNN. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/don-lemon-vindicated-chris-licht-cnn-1235570155/
  16. Okay, so it makes sense now. I had been hearing that two Tesla employees (former?) were suspected of passing along files that divulged some incriminating information about Musk to a reporter.
  17. Bernardo Arévalo, of the very young Movimiento Semilla political party, won the election in Guatemala. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/guatemalans-vote-president-many-hope-renewal-democracy-2023-08-20/
  18. Days ago, I heard that Musk was removing the block feature. Now, I am hearing that he’s blocked a number of people. The mess over in those Twitter streets has me hollering.
  19. She’ll probably tell them to talk to Devon, does he still wear a cochlear implant? Devon will probably reassure them that even if the baby ends up hearing impaired they’ll live a full rich life. The story will be over in two weeks.
  20. “The answer to What happened to Rudy Giuliani? is Nothing happened. He is the same man he’s always been.” Thank you! This is what some of us have already known for decades! https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/18/opinion/rudy-giuliani-trump-authoritarianism.html
  21. This is the first time I’ve heard of livestream shopping (other than HSN and QVC, which I am not entirely sure is always live- I suspect some portions are recorded) but this sounds insane. Though this may only work for well-known celebrities. https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/17/china/james-harden-nba-china-livestream-wine-intl-hnk/index.html?utm_term=link&utm_content=2023-08-18T09%3A00%3A15&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twCNN
  22. People have complained repeatedly about the casting of the character but at a certain point people should have been questioning the depiction of the character through the writing, direction, etc., to me, those are the common factors. Noah has been written and depicted very poorly— he hasn’t been written reasonably well since the character was a teenager.
  23. Apparently Twitter, X or whatever Musk calls it today, has chased off some more brands that have chosen to suspend advertising on the platform after their ads were placed next to pro-Nazi content. Why does any brand still run ads on that platform? https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/16/tech/x-ads-pro-nazi-account-brand-safety/index.html
  24. It seems like the same issues that eventually cropped up with cable in recent years, are now happening with streaming services. https://www.theverge.com/23831904/streaming-wars-price-hikes-disney-plus-hbo-max-hulu
  25. This sounds like a type of recasting of the Jill Foster story, albeit a story where we encounter the person as already having attained a foothold in the corporate world, unlike Jill whose climb into the corporate sphere took place onscreen for viewers to watch. And of course, the aspect of ethnicity and race could lurk in the background (Y&R would never write a story where these issues are prominent, and they don’t have the capability to write such a story anyway). From what I managed to see of Audra, it seemed like the show seemed content to keep the character as a “side piece”, a calculating and charismatic one, but a side piece, nonetheless. Can ZS break out of that mold that has been cast for her character, the way that MM managed to, for a period of time? Who knows, but even in MM’s case, the actress can do only so much, without the writing to back her up.
