  1. I tried to watch SBTB, but I honestly couldn't really get into it fully. Good Morning Miss Bliss seemed better written than SBTB. I'd rather watch a show that fully leaned into its cheesiness, rather than a show that was really cheesy but tried hard to be realistic or worse, tried to go back and forth between serious and cheesy, like SBTB. I remember reading that the kids from DJH in the repertory company who compromised the actors often talked to the writers, who allowed changes in dialogue. The kids also put together their own wardrobes and styled their own hair, etc. A few of the storylines were inspired by the kids too. Neil Hope lost a parent when he was younger and it inspired the story of Wheels losing his adopted parents. One of the things that made the show more realistic to me, were little things, like Melanie (who had decided to wear lipstick to appear grown up) finding out too late that she had been trying to flirt with Snake while having lipstick all over her teeth. Ouch! 😂 I felt so much secondhand embarrassment for her. But little touches like that gave the series a realistic feel. It really felt like junior high in that regard.
  2. I also remember watching Tales Of The City on PBS. I remember hearing years later about some controversy, but what was it about? I found it kind of sad that the newest installment didn't air on PBS as the original film adaptation did. It just goes to show how much more risk-averse even NYC's PBS station would become. I miss that old programming ethos. I saw a lot of risqué Brazilian and French films on that channel, lol.
  3. Thank you!! People were trying to make me feel like my eyes didn't see, but I remember that abortion episode with Erica and Heather where they went to the clinic and all those anti-abortion protestors were there. Someone on YouTube was like "It was cut out of episodes running on PBS stations in America". I was like "Well, I guess Channel 13 is not America because I saw those scenes!" I was almost starting to doubt my own memories but that scene with the lady holding the figurine fetus stood out in my mind because it creeped me out, the tone of the woman's voice most of all. WNET was very liberal in their content. I don't believe they censored anything on that channel because I've seen...some things.👀 Nowadays, I would believe that they have become more conservative though, due to the constant threats from Republicans in Congress that they want to cut funding for PBS.
  4. Are you serious? Maybe I'm not in those threads, but I have never seen major conflict between you two. We don't always agree on all our viewpoints but I have generally enjoyed your sense of humor and your posts. Hopefully, you can both work this one out.
  5. Something else that people outside the industry may not realize is that IATSE members in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have a completely different contract that is not expired but also offered to strike in solidarity with the other IATSE members whose contract terms were in contention.
  6. I don't know. I just know that it was watching this particular PBS channel (I had access to about three PBS stations growing up) that I first remember watching EastEnders. To be honest, I am surprised the show lasted this long on WLIW, for one, because they moved it away from what I referred to as the 'Brit bloc' of programming on Friday nights, which included shows like "Are You Being Served?", eventually moving it off Friday nights entirely. I just remember never knowing how to find the show. At one point, it was moved to almost midnight and I couldn't stay up for that. I probably stopped watching around then. I had no idea that they eventually moved it to Tuesdays. That's not even getting into the aspect of the show being at least a decade behind. In the age of the Internet, streaming and VPN, I'm guessing that would not go down too well. Nonetheless, it's sad, for all the people who were still watching. Maybe Britbox(is that still available?) or some other entity might pick up EastEnders. Paying a subscription fee is not the same as watching on a public broadcasting network and having the luxury of dodging pledge drives. I could have sworn seeing something, like a months old tweet trying to fundraise-- it sounded pretty desperate, tbh, so I don't know how successful they were in their efforts.
  7. This reminds me of that age old adage that says the lawyer who chooses to represent himself in court has a fool for a client.
  8. The end of an era.
  9. There's an issue that has been gnawing at me for many years...the discussion surrounding censorship of episodes, with many accounts claiming scenes being cut out in various countries where the show aired including the U.S. but I wonder whether this was truly the case across all PBS stations? Did anyone watch Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High on WNET/Channel 13 in NYC? I remember seeing scenes that were supposed to have been censored on American television broadcasts. Also, that station was pretty liberal with the content they showed (nudity, sexual situations, etc.) I remember as a kid tuning in on a Saturday night and being shocked that they were showing this...also, I still watched, lol.
  10. Anybody know how ticket sales (or re-sales) are looking for the men's finals tomorrow?
  11. Oh, that makes sense, LOL! I was about to say... Take away the scruff and the specs and Damian looks like himself.
  12. Her last appearance was definitely in '94 and I am dubious about wiki entries claiming she appeared in 91. 94 was a depressing year altogether, the entire cast looked like they were in mourning. Sierra never had much of a storyline after '87 when Tonio took over Craig's business. All she did was function as a sounding board for Lily and Lucinda's angst. After that, she only had brief appearances to collect Craig when Scott wanted to leave the show (which was often). I don't know how much spark can be expected or generated from a such brief appearances on the back of other people's storylines (they weren't going to give her too much to do since she was only there for a brief stay). OTOH, I thought it was nice that she agreed to come on to help usher Bryce off the canvas whenever he wanted to go, lol.
  13. It was really a ONS. Lucinda explained that they knew each other before they had met her. Later she explained to John that they sought comfort in each other's arms because of grief. Personally, I think they worked much better as antagonists, that's where the heat came from. Marland was smart not to revisit this, imo. Today's soaps show no such restraint and continue to beat old story threads to death. A mistake. The only issue is her Southern accent afaic, There are people who look just Sierra in any Central and Latin America with the influx of Germans in the post WWII period (ahem, we all know why) and their German descendants stayed. Telenovelas are full to the brim with actors/characters who look like Finn and they were born and raised in countries like Mexico, Argentina and Perú and their roots are nowhere near the Iberian peninsula, lol. Finn returned in 94 after Marland's death, and the entire show seemed funereal at that time. When did she return before that? I thought her only previous return was in '89 when she helped usher Scott off the canvas, when he wanted to leave again. Boynton's casting wouldn't fly either with that quasi-"Scarface" accent. The only person who would be allowed to stay would be Karina Arroyave. Uh, when was Sierra ever in a triangle with Emily and Tonio??
  14. Probably because, while both sides have reached an agreement, it still needs to be ratified by vote. Until then it is not a fait accompli and still officially a tentative agreement.
  15. This episode is a joyride. The cat and mouse between Craig and Lucinda, Craig's taunting and Lucinda's triumphant expression when she calls his bluff and realizes she's guessed right and Craig's reaction when he realizes this, is a dynamic that writers just couldn't get right in the later iterations of Craig. Add his skulking around Sierra (I could've sworn I saw Finn trying to stifle a surreptitious urge to laugh when she and Scott suddenly face each other in the corner). The blocking in this scene is impeccable with Craig practically becoming an immovable object that Sierra can't avoid and Tonio fuming. Margo's scenes with Shannon and Harriet are hilarious. Hillary Bailey Smith's facial expressions add even more hilarity. I wonder if they were all able to get through that in one take, or at least without bursting into complete laughter. https://youtu.be/rE109Qu7HQM
  16. What a disaster this tournament has turned out to be, especially on the ATP side. Glad I hardly watched any of it.
  17. Although, I can definitely see why Fritz is not a great prospect either. I really haven't been able to watch much and I don't regret it. Whenever I have gotten the chance to get a look, the court speed is lulling me to sleep--then again, it's not too different from what I remember of IW decades ago. IW, in general, used to be the snooze compared to Miami. I don't mind Vika winning it, and I know that Badosa annoys a lot of fans but I am truly agnostic where she's concerned.
  18. For me, it's anybody else but wife beater. I'm used to U.S. tennis media hyping up any players coming along since the days of the Williams Sisters' primes when they promoted any U.S. woman who they thought could beat them. This frenzy is not new to me, been dealing with it for twenty years now.
  19. Only saw some of the match but I saw that 'Baby Daddy' won his match.
  20. Speaking of that which fails to surprise, is anyone surprised that this has been revealed? Couldn't be me.
  21. Wow, all the one-slam wonders in singles are scooting into the HOF this year! I thought a player needed a minimum of 2 majors (of the 4 GS tournaments).
  22. Hoping Grigor can keep it up, all the way to the title. It's the only result that makes sense at this point.
