That's why it's misguided to lionize or revere these talking heads, just by what you see on television. Many of them are glorified script readers at best. I kind of prefer the title that they are given in Britain, that if newsreader, because that's essentially what they do, they read the news. Actual journalists research, write and deliver their own news stories.

For all the squawking about right-wing zealots taking over Europe and possibly Latin America, it sure seems like there has been a decidedly left-ward turn in politics over the last two years. While America and parts of Great Britain may be willfully blind about the disaster that is Trumpism, it would appear that much of the world has decided to veer away from that direction. Wasn't Norway supposed to be full of right-winger in charge by now? 🙄

It was so prescient to bring Penny back to Oakdale on special occasions during the 80s. That should've continued, right up to the end of the series' run.

And guess what? They have begun to run ads (at least, when you stream on the YouTube app), just as I suspected. The episodes are actually about 21 minutes in length, on average. Some people are complaining about the screen aspect ratio but I don't see the B&B uploaders doing much to change that, at least, not with just a few thousand views per episode. But, as quiet as it's kept, even those few ads per episode, for an episode that is just a little over 20 minutes is $$$ for B&B's revenue stream. Modest amounts add up, when you consider it. It's basically almost entirely an income stream that's "passive". B&B is in the position to do this more easily than most, due to their length, of course, but also the fact that they don't tend to use much popular music, like many other soaps did during the same period of time. Other soaps though, do have some years, some episodes where not much popular music was used, so this is achievable with many soaps, tbh, not just B&B.

Some (not all) sectors of the media seem loathe to admit that California Republicans essentially wasted huge amounts of the state's money to front this recall election, with ridiculously foppish and unserious candidates. These same media entities also seem loathe to admit that the recall has been rejected in what looks to be a landslide. Great use of public resources in a pandemic.🙄 Wasn't the Republican party supposed to be the party of fiscal conservatism? I guess that's only when it comes to the lower income classes.

Venus was one of my Top 2. Her skin alone, she was positively glowing. Oh okay, the tennis. The WTA side has been unpredictable for years but unpredictable would be a tremendous understatement for what happened this year. The so-called ascendants who acted like Serena was in their way to the major titles...what happened to them?! Garbiñe? Svitolina? Bencic, who always acts like she is condescending whenever she has to play Venus, where was that spirit of entitlement then? Congrats to Raducanu for grabbing what was ripe for the taking and congrats to Fernandez for cutting a huge swath through all those WTA players who were supposed to contend for this year's title. Nobody saw them coming, but it will be interesting to see who familiarizes themselves with Raducanu and Fernandez's games going forward. Well, nobody could claim that Medvedev came out of nowhere, with two other finals under his belt, but it had really been Novak's title to lose and lose, he did. Unlike many of the players who face Djokovic in the majors, Daniil knew that mixing it up (what some might call junk-balling) was an effective strategy for someone who was likely fatigued and nervous. Had Daniil played a predictable game, with obvious patterns for Novak to become comfortable with, Nolé might have been able to settle down and find his way in. What's really funny is that Medvedev employed the same type of tactics that Monfils used when he took a set off Djokovic at the US Open few years ago, but Daniil was ruthlessly efficient and ultimately successful. I guess the point is, when you win, there won't be criticism of your strategy. Congrats to Daniil on his success at the Open. I had low expectations for this tournament, so it was fun to watch, the handful of matches that I did watch in their entirely.

Someone once tweeted that Carlos Alcaraz looked like the love child of Rafael Nadal and Carla Suarez Navarro and now that tweet seems to make sense, lol. Angie won the battle of the pushers. Angie was sleeping in that stadium, I'm not sure she even went back to her hotel or wherever she's been staying. She wanted this win badly.

Which is why I said they'd be better off streaming the classic episodes, like B&B is doing. I had never seen one episode of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Dark Shadows or The Doctors until they were in second or third runs on television. Don't tell me people can latch onto a series after the fact. Just stream classic episodes and see where they land. Very little risk. Folks, including soap fans are making things too complicated and there is a distinct lack of imagination that keeps the genre mired in a vicious cycle. It's not that complicated. There's a reason why I Love Lucy still has a fan base but the original The Goldbergs is lost and forgotten to time. It's simpler than you think it is.l but the companies will have you think it's not.

Great, now they need to upload five more episodes for the holiday weekend, like today. Those of you who put the vault together, pat yourselves on the back, because you all are likely the reason why B&B decided to do this.

Too bad Anisimova couldn't steal that tiebreaker from wooden Pliskova. That was a high-quality match and much of it had to do with Anisimova and the response of the crowd, because Pliskova gives nothing--great for her personally, not so great for viewers at home or ratings for tennis.

There is a two-fold issue, problem, more like, to the reboot of a classic soap and I am going to specifically talk about classic daytime serial dramas, as I believe they are structured very differently than a classic primetime serial drama. One problem has to do with expectations. Long time fans often want things to be exactly the way they were when they loved these daytime soaps the most and some of that won't be possible. In some regards, one has to adopt a contemporary sensibility. Some of the things that fans loved in the 80s (rapists turned romantic leading men, for example) is an awful idea, especially in the wake of #MeToo (although, if we're truly being honest, it was always a terribly toxic idea). I wouldn't want to revive such a character on any reboot but I know that if there were an immensely popular character on a show (e.g. Todd Manning/OLTL) fans would be clamoring for him. In my view, the only way to bring such a character back would be as a pariah, haunted by his past misdeeds. The fans wouldn't like it but without that there is no chance to capture the new fans that such a reboot would certainly need in order to be worthy of maintaining production--no producers want to lose money). FWIW, I think soap fans are much more open-minded, in terms of changes to their favorite classic soaps today than they were with the TOLN/PP soaps when they streamed about 7 years ago. The other issue is reluctance, bordering on belligerence of the holders of these classic properties to treat them with the respect due to classic television (on this board, we've already discussed some of the reasons why they've had this attitude). That includes lack of regard and lack of care of their classic episodes, which are being housed in God knows what conditions! I agree that, one of the best ways that producers of classic soaps, like P&G could get a read on whether a reboot could work would be to reissue or stream episodes of their classic soaps, which is why I am so dismayed by the piss-poor state of many of the episodes and clips on YouTube as well as the infighting between uploader account holders on that platform. These uploaders should put aside egos, greed, envy, selfishness and whatever other deadly sins they may have, in service of the community and build a video library of the best quality episodes and clips, like what fans of Y&R and B&B have already been doing. If you add up all the streams, clicks on the various P&G dramas-relates YouTube channels, the number of views could likely add up to some serious numbers but having a scatter shot assortment of channels with double-digit views won't convince any would-be producers to take a chance on rebooting a classic daytime soap opera. As much as I criticize The Bold And The Beautiful for their upload schedule for their classic episodes in YouTube, at least they are putting up episodes, which means they, on some level, recognize the show's value. It's also likely that their spies 👀 know about the "vault" and recognize the interest that has already been there in classic B&B episodes and decided to finally try to capitalize on that interest for their own benefit. The clicks, the views and the subscriptions to their YouTube channel leads to $$$ and possibly, more sponsors. It is a low-risk, relatively low-cost investment with the possibility of a sizeable reward. It might be more challenging for P&G soaps since there are no P&G soap currently still on air, but fans, particularly collectors would be wise to get together and collectively build their own "vault" and see whether it inspires the interest of a P&G or another SoapClassics type entity to revive some soaps, whether a reboot or a reissue of their classic titles.

Hope springs eternal, I'm seeing, despite the fact that JG has done absolutely nothing to earn this level of trust. Robert Adamson seems like an affable, likeable guy who was really miscast in the role. Someone said that he should have been cast as Lauren and Scott's son and I tend to agree. Having RA cast as Scottie would have solved a lot of characterization and storyline problems, including lack of story for Lauren and the fact that the best onscreen chemistry Mariah has had (other than her all too brief interaction with Daniel Romalotti) is with her onscreen brother Noah. It was a dual problem of terrible casting, but you still have to have competent writing, which Y&R hasn't had in almost 15 years.

I wonder what Brian Bloom's residual payments amount to every time Once Upon A Time In America streams on Netflix?
