And Just Like That...
Originally, I had no intention of watching, because that was my feeling too, especially after the two movies that, imo, didn't need to happen but I saw opaque comments about an end to the first episode that was a shock and I said "hm, wonder what that's about?" Then this morning, I was actually watching a morning news magazine show and on the bottom of the screen crawl said something to the effect of "SATC fans divided on the first episodes" or something and I was intrigued. Then I even saw a newspaper headline that alluded to a negative review, so I said "okay, I think I might need to watch to see what all this fuss is about" (I didn't read the article), so I had to find a stream. My first question after watching is "How will they deal with the Stanford Batch issue?" Or do they not plan on lasting that long. Willie Garson has died and they won't be able to pretend his character is in Europe like Samantha, who they kept discussing as if her absence were a type of death. With , it's going to span the maudlin to have another long-time character die in such a short space of time. I guess they are at "that age" when loss can come more frequently but isn't this still a comedy? Speaking of which, the laughs didn't come until the second episode, and then they were few and far between and I'm including even From a writing perspective, I was surprised by how much the first episode seems like a pilot. It's kind of comforting that, as accomplished as MPK and everyone connected with SATC are, they can still produce an episode that struggles with the same aspects as everyone else like writing too much exposition. The second episode was much better, less clunky storytelling but still hung like a dark cloud, it's appropriate that the Eurythmics song closed out the episode. I think the episodes managed the aspect of grief well. I do wonder, in such an already somber time when loss abounds, how many people want to see consecutive episodes dealing with loss and death, especially for a show that was once known for punchlines, one-liners and oh, comedy.

If only we had the benefit of a good interviewer but I will still tune in because I always look forward to seeing Tamara Tunie. It's a shame that this channel doesn't even get half the views it did last year, Eileen Fulton deserved more views for her reunion episode and so will Tunie.

Jimmy Kimmel Presents Norman Lear's "The Jeffersons" and "All in the Family" Live on ABC
I hadn't seen that episode in years but I was watching and thinking, "wasn't the issue about his skin?" With Jon Stewart playing Rocky, of course, I understand why they subbed in headgear. I thought Gabrielle Union was pretty good and quick-witted. The actress who played Natalie, maybe because I don't really know who she is, but she fit seamlessly into character. And yes, Todd Bridges, alone onstage, announcing his late co-stars really did make me feel some kinda way. Watching Kevin Hart play Arnold made me think he had great comedic timing and then, I thought about how Gary Coleman was doing this at 10 years old and it reminded me just how talented he was.

Ugh, yeah, him too. You know that I am normally loathe to suggest that anyone should retire but he contributes absolutely nothing to the sport. He doesn't even try.

Already?! Wow. He seemed like one of the few non-MAGA U.S. players to be on the ATP Tour in the last few years. Meanwhile, we're still stuck with the likes of Colonel Sandgren and John Isner.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
It's frustrating tbh, to see events repeating, over and over. Hopefully this variant turns out to consist of the mild symptoms that researchers believe.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Yes, I know. The Universities were the first to conduct testing in the U.S., which was already behind other industrialized countries in testing wastewater. I meant that this likely means the Omicron variant is more widespread in the U.S. than is being reported. Delta was turning up in wastewater systems before it became the dominant strain of COVID-19.

Or you would have had a character calling her an "old bittie", "old bat" or "old battle-ax", any number of names similar to the ones Jill used to call Katherine. In any case, it wouldn't be pretty.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Vanessa Simmons definitely seemed surprised by the offer. Wheeler was probably doing the Maria Arena Bell thing of "show-casting" in hopes of juicing up the ratings. Now I'm curious to see how she fared on GL. I'm unused to the concept of Lawrence St Victor having a love interest, since it hasn't happened in such a long time.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
At random, I decided to go on the PlutoTV App and saw that MTV series Run's House and clicked on it to see that Rev. Run's older daughter was meeting with Ellen Wheeler and the casting director at Guiding Light (you can probably guess how old this episode is). Apparently, Vanessa Simmons (the elder daughter) had screen tested with Lawrence St. Victor and Wheeler offered her a longer role for the summer as his love interest. I only have a vague recollection of this episode and I don't think I had time to watch much TV at that time, so I definitely didn't see her on GL.

This was recently posted, although the interview itself took place in 2004 (I think). I know some people despise her but it does say something that she remembers all the characters names. Not to step on toes but there is a much clearer copy of that Christmas Eve episode on YouTube. The AsTheWorldStillTurns channel has it, I think.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Oh yeah, I knew about her, I just thought it was cool that there was a look-alike actress/dancer that was meant to be her. The actress who portrayed Chita Rivera was quite good too. I read the original source material a few years ago, so I recognized quite a few scenes in there from the biography. The actor who played Paddy Chayefsky portrayed him pretty much how he comes off in his biography. That wryly dark Bronx-onian sense of humor.
