June 16, 200620 yr Member Of course DAYS didn't get 3.0 on Friday. The baby who said that is a well known liar. You must not be a member over there Toups anymore! She's been right-on most of the time & well ahead of anybody else's scoops. She's the first to tell us we need to take the buzz with a grain of salt because it's just that...buzz. Here's what she had to say about the ratings: DAYS did pull a 3.0 in the overnight ratings for last Friday. For those of you who are not familiar with overnight ratings, they are a sampling of the major markets in the country. As Baby Brady reported to her message board, she stated the overnight ratings and not the actual rating for Friday which was released on Thursday, June 15. In many markets, DAYS aired at a later time, even in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday due to tennis coverage which accounted for the difference of the actual rating!

June 16, 200619 yr Member Well many of the Jack fans said that if they brought Jack back they would tune back in. They said him being off was the reason they weren't watching. He came back and ratings still didn't increase. So who knows. We will just have to see. As I have said we Days fans are so unpredictable. I think any soap's problems run deeper than any one character. Personally, I am a huge fan of OLTL Nora, and consequently have stopped watching -- but it would take far more than just a few glimpses of Nora (given this week) to lure me back to watching regularly. There is an anger and mistrust that just doesn't fade just because a character is 'reinstated' (and with Higley's Fronsvision, more than ample reason for that anger and mistrust.) After JER's longtime mistreatment of Matt Ashford, I wouldn't just tune in for glimpses of him sick. And Matt Ashford/Jack is only one of many stars/story with that type of situation. I think the new writer will do more for DOOL than any star's or couples's return, even Stephen Nichols (loved him as Stefan Cassadine, but never seen him as Patch), and that it will take time, word of mouth, and in this case, one huge story to turn things around. (It should have been Zach's death, but they lost momentum.)

Anyone familiar with the overnight ratings knows that DAYS' overnight ratings from the top metered markets are always LOWER than what the actual overnight ratings turn out to be (since DAYS does better in rural areas, while ABC shows do better in the big cities). So to have them drop drastically instead of going up when all markets are factored in is not only ludicrous, it's one for the gullible record books. But believe who/what you want; facts never stopped anyone from buying into something they want to believe.
June 17, 200619 yr Member I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Passions' poor 6th place showing in the women 18-34 demos. And, this is not just a one-time fluke, as Passions has been ranking 5th or 6th in this category for the past one and a half months; indeed, this is by far the longest (and perhaps only) stretch in the show's history when it did poorly in the demos.
June 17, 200619 yr Member DAYS was not shown in Seattle on both Thursday AND Friday (well it wasn't shown on NBC main affiliate KING, it was on KONG (which is a sub-affiliate, that not everyone gets). I had to watch the east coast feed @ 10 in the morning to watch it and sometimes on the Canadian feeds through GLOBAL. DAYS most certainly will drop next week if Thursday and Friday are included. I agree. I mentioned something about this a month ago. PSNS has REALLY suffered demographically recently, especially in 18-34, a demo they used to do SOOOOOOO well in and even sometimes would tie or occasionally beat DAYS for #1. I honestly am suprised NBC renewed the show considering their huge drops in demos. JER is poison, he needs to be released from his duties at PSNS aswell. That soap needs SERIOUS help!
June 17, 200619 yr Member JER is poison, he needs to be released from his duties at PSNS aswell. That soap needs SERIOUS help! Someone at SOC, discussing Higley, Frons and the execution spike in ratings, commented on the vision I'd say both Higley and JER seem to advocate, which often involves purposefully angering viewers (easiest to do with the long time fans): 'an angry viewer is an invested viewer' was quoted to be her (and Frons' belief) -- and one doesn't have to look hard to see style similarities with JER. One problem is that one just runs out of shocking things after awhile, and the audience, especially a younger one used to being thrilled, will start channel surfing at even the slightest lull. The other, more in the case of DOOL, long-term anger soon causes longer term viewers to stop caring and tune out.

IA, Dena does the same thing, she has big months and then everything else is slow to progress. But, IMO, from what I've seen from June so far, it looks like they are trying to fix that.
