Wait.....Anita is an EGOT, Vernon was an important Senator, and Dani was an international model (no matter how brief, although I thought she said she was on par with Tyra Banks(or someone)...meanwhile, Nicole's some nice psychologist/psychiatrist with an award on her wall...but Dani's hasn't added to the Dupree mystique?

I don't think the writers considered ever having any Dupree be less than utterly fabulously successful  and that's actually flaw in the structure of the show.

Oh, I forgot to say...Smitty acts like she stumbled into Vanessa's Only Fans account and paid for a picture of her dirty undies before realizing it was her.

Major flaw! And that's why I said Dani would've been better off an screwed up kid (black sheep). Nicole got an award because she's doing important work. Depression is real, Mental illness is real. People are homeless and committing suicide in jails because they lack proper help.

Yes, she modeled, but I mean, even Tyra pivoted into acting, talk shows, her own company, managing other models, etc.

Yes, Nicole's work would be seen as important, but she's wouldn't be (arguably) a national figure.

But why is it so ugly?

I doubt it's sticking around for much longer; it's not a oft-used set like Orphey Gene's or Uptown, so it's fine as is. Once Lindstrom likely wraps up his run, I'm sure it'll be dismantled and never seen again.

The casino needs to go and it's ugly!

The ugliest set on BTG.

That set looks like the backroom at a fire hall. No way would a casino design a special rollers room to look like that.

I don't get it. If they really want this casino/mob boss story to work, they have to try harder. That set is atrocious and a joke, and they can't have it patronized by someone like Eva.

They also needed to create a Joey who is feared. Who has he ruined? Bankrupted? Killed? Is his only hope for money laundering a doctor who gambles too much?

Where's the news that Lindstrom is wrapping up his run? I wouldn't call that set not oft-used, either. We've seen a lot of it, which is why we're complaining about it.

Dani's past is worth examining. OK she was an international model, but settled for an up and coming lawyer and quit modelling on his say?

Doesn't hold together for me. They need a better reason for her giving that up. Maybe due to some incident, her star was falling and Bill helped her? She must have been in awe of him to put up with the infidelities and it seems she didn't stray herself.

Though we have seen flashbacks of them in happier times, so maybe Bill was charming enough to convince her that he really loved her.

Did her parents apply pressure? Maybe they disliked Bill and she married out of rebellion and then refused to leave to avoid the "I told you so's"

And what was it about Hayley that caused Bill to finally divorce Dani?

Lot's of motivations that need to be explored.

Literally looks like a damn VFA or bingo hall. But we’re supposed to believe high rollers go there.

@P.J. Well, it wasn't her first award. I am sure she has written books, and spoken at colleges, and gotten some notoriety from it. Most importantly, she is fulfilled. Something Dani is not.

@Paul Raven Exactly, it does not ring true to me. Dani has that big personality because she is masking pain. And she probably clung to Bill because he made her feel smart and important (at one point). There are ways to add more layers to her.

Kat certainly does prove that point. She's been given a lot to work with, so we shouldn't be bored of her anytime soon. I am interested in all her storylines at the moment, and curious how the show will use the affair to impact her romances and business stories.

Same. I love like a lot of the other characters she has so much potential and possibilities. I also love she is not a shrinking violet. And most definitely not perfect.

Well, what movie was it? Cause…

Lol. Okay, I give you that. But I'm a horror fan so I ain't hating on her for being one, too.

The casino set needs to be upgraded or needs to go. Why would anyone rich spend their time in the wood paneled 1960’s room instead of just playing cards in what I assume is the normal nice looking casino area.

Well like I said when this story started...those kind of backrooms DO exist even now. The workers even run to get the gamblers food orders so they can completely focus on losing all their money the game. I appreciated Randy clarifying that the other day when Mona was asking him about the machines. Of course, that said...I guess the question is if we will see the rest of the casino.

I like Nicole for several reasons, she has all the good attributes and qualities of a good person. You have to be a huge hater to dislike someone like her.

Same, but especially the bold.

The ones that exist are 10x shittier than the casino they exit in and have wood paneling from the 60’s?

Dani as a model never sat right with me, especially when some of the cringe dialogue was saying she was a rival to Naomi Campbell. Not trying to be mean or disparaging against her, but in no world would Dani/Karla Mosley's looks have ever have been accepted in the real world and ultra competitive high fashion modeling industry - certainly not 15-20 years ago. I get this is fiction, but come on...

I would have it come out that Dani was pregnant with Naomi while her career was still on the rise, and the idea of a Dupree having a baby out of wedlock would be scandalous, and Bill, who was starting out in his career, received pressure from Vernon/Anita to do the "honorable thing" and marry her and in exchange Vernon promised to help his new son-in-law out with his legal career.

You're right about that hetero bio son Dupree, though.

Agreed

Anita and Vernon definitely needed a son or two.

The Duprees are the core family, yet the name practically doesn’t even exist anymore.

I wonder if Michelle Val Jean even considered this. It seems so obvious to many of us.  If they want the Dupree name to continue, Anita and Vernon need at least one male heir.  Two would be even better.  Do you think Val Jean may have written it this way intentionally for some reason?
