BTG: May 2025 Discussion Thread

This was an excellent "filler" episode but I'd prefer to refer to it as a character building episode. I love that BTG is paced in a way that they can have episodes like this as opposed to the repetitive nature of the other soaps which don't leave room for this.

The highlight for me was Eva with Martin's family. They've talked so much about her doing hair and I was so excited to finally get to see that in action. I thought the tension with Samantha was nice since she is a Dupree woman. I also love that Martin is trying to help Eva feel welcomed. I struggled a bit with Martin but he really shines when put across Eva, Kat and his grandparents. He definitely gets my vote for most improved.

I also loved the scenes with Dani, Nicole and Andre. I love that Nicole clocked them so easily lol. I know many haven't enjoyed how Dani has acted since the Ted/Eva reveal but I find it so heartwarming watching her with Nicole. They clearly have a deep love for each other despite their differences and I love that Dani still tries even though her approach isn't always great and her whole life is a mess. Nicole/Dani is another one of the star pairs on the show.

Anita and Vernon's scenes were excellent and the more I see of this story, the more I can't wait for the Articulettes to show up. I wonder if they've already been quietly cast and are filming. Not that I'm complaining, but the set is like Fort Knox so we really have no clue what is going on there. I can only hope we will see them soon. I also must say, Tamara Tunie looked stunning today.

The Jacob/Naomi scenes were another highlight. I like the working class vibe they give to the show. I'm also becoming intrigued about June and want to know more about how she ended up on the streets and who she's connected to. I hope it's Haley because she's in dire need of some backstory and development.

The weak point of the episode were the Bill and Haley scenes. How are you going to have them having sex on his desk and we couldn't see a little bra or shirtless action from Bill? That was tired and a waste of time. They need to work on integrating them more with the rest of the canvas. I do not care about them anymore.

I'm sticking to my theory that June is Hayley's sister (maybe a cousin since this show showcases cousins). Hayley really needs someone else to interact with because her being isolated to just Bill is not working.

Eva only seems to have a backbone when it comes to Kat. She had no problem rubbing it in her face that they are sisters.

Sharon hanging up on Anita was a good little nudge for that storyline. At least one of them having a name is promising to them actually showing up.

I would love to see it as part of a backlot shopping district where characters can bump into one another in a more natural way. Lately there has too much getting up and leaving then coming back during meals at Orphey's and Uptown. It's becoming a distraction. There could be shops, more restaurants and a coworking space.

All of the "you will never be a Dupree" lines definitely are pointing to this.

This is one of my favorite stories. I love stories about show business and MVJ has a background in the music industry so I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. Anita instigated the breakup - we have already seen her mean streak come out with Hannah and Eva. I expect one member (she called Sharon today) to be holding a grudge and another member (Tracy) to be somewhat bitter but more open to the idea of a tour, playing the role of peacemaker between Anita and Sharon. Maybe Sharon will pull a Mary Wilson and write tell-all about Anita.

I would DIE if Shanice’s mom lived beyond the gates and was just as messy

I loved her so much.

Give. Me. More.

Absolutely loved this scene. Looking forward to more bonding between them.

She is such a find. If her agents are smart, they’re booking her on bigger things as soon as possible. I want to see her blow up. She is THAT good to me.

Ambyr and Trisha are the stars of this show for me and why I watch.

Bingo.

This show actually feeling like a soap that moves has made it so hard for me to watch the others anymore.

I love you

Thank god you said this. I wish we’d stop taking the bait but this needed to be said. White male leads cheat ALLLLLLLL the time. But this poster seems to think omg two black men that cheated decades apart are about to set us back somehow. I’m about to add them to the ignore list with Donna, I’m sick of the baiting.

This was perfectly stated.

Preach my friend, preach.

As for yesterday’s episode I loved it. The show is handling the fall out from the Eva reveal so damn well for me. And I LOVED that Ted final scene holding Eva’s hand. I guess I’m in the minority since the recast announcement was made but I will miss Maurice and his chemistry with all of his costars as Ted and really wish he could’ve played the entire fall out of the story.

When I saw the pic of two kids on a stoop, I immediately though it was Samantha and Tyrell but that could be a red herring. The picture is quite old so maybe it is Hayley and June. This would help to bring Naomi back into Hayley and Bill's orbit.

If June is Tyrell and Samantha's mother, that story would seem to be a dead end - unless Martin and Smitty adopted them through improper means.

I did wonder if Anastasia is who Shanice has been chatting with during her shift. Her line to Ted about making her mouth even bigger? I was scandalized. Anastasia has to return soon.

Reading all the theories here and on twitter.  Someone wondered if June is connected to Leslie?

So now we have June possibly connected to Hayley, to Samantha&Tyrell, or to Leslie.

I love that we don't know!

To be honest, the first time she aired, I didn't think June was connected to any major character.  I thought she was simply a client who might prove to have an interesting backstory as part of the "have-nots".   But then June dropped the photograph, so that has to be an anvil or mean something.

That would be key; I know they have a "Tribeca" set that's active at the moment, so they could easily use the exterior of that set and then create "indoor" sets on the next set budget. I think that'd be a key idea. I love the community lots we presently have, although there is always room for more.

Out of these, I hope she isn't connected to Samantha and Tyrell. I just don't see a long term story there. I hadn't thought of a connection to Leslie but now that you bring it up...what if we find out June is Haley's sister and both were abandoned and raised in foster care. June ended up on the streets and Haley ended up with the Duprees. The mother who dumped them in foster care? Leslie.

If they end up making Eva a stolen child of Nicole's, it would be a good way to develop some family for Leslie to help keep her on the canvas. She could ultimately make up with her kids and then she'd have access to Bill's money/power which could help her become a long term rival for the Duprees.

I hope none of the theories of about June amount to anything and she just goes away. There’s nothing interesting about the story or character, and I think fans are constantly looking for deeper connections in everything.

Same. And you know I've been trying my best with Y&R and how I feel about GH.

Also same.

Amen. And not alone in that minority.  I'm still wondering if that was a good drop off point for him all day. In a way...it truly is given what Ted and Eva's arc has been so far. But I will miss Maurice all the same.

I think June is the kids' mother and potentially Leslie's sister. There's enough story thre especially given Martin's feelings towards Leslie. It would make things even messier if he killed her husband, further intertwining her into his life

    • BTG also has Uptown, but I really don't love that set.
    • According to this article, Victoria Rowell says was asked to audition for Anita Dupree   https://apnews.com/article/beyond-gates-renewal-d7369f7a60a0a992483294acb950ef6d
    • For years I did NOT go by Laura's opinion of Luke. Today I certainly do not go by Laura's opinion that Sonny somehow is good for Port Charles. Actually when it comes to being a judge of people's characters, and the issue is Laura, I just remember Esme.
    • Good point. It would provide some conflict with Jack. As much as I am not interested in Claire, I don't find it difficult to understand why she might be a bit reluctant  to commit to a guy who has already been divorced twice or is  3 times?before he is 30. That's a natural obstacle that Claire would be hesitant about. But in GC every relationship is true love and various past marriages are forgotten.
    • He had no chance of getting on The Sopranos

I’m in NYC, and I can’t help but wonder if NYC prosecutors, politicians, etc. ever felt the way that Laura did, back in the 80s-90s when they were taking down the mob.  “Oooh, don’t put John Gotti in prison. The guy who comes in after him might be worse”
    • Happy 18th Birthday, Sophia! I like that Tate gave her a birthday party. And that Marlena counseled him about whether or not he has feelings for Sophia, and his relationship with Holly. I like how messy Tate is and I hope he continues to be messy. He just needs to have more argument/fight scenes with Doug III

Days just needs to work a little bit more on establishing better chemistry between Tate and Sophia, but I still think that’s mostly due to Rachel Boyd. Sometimes, I think that Sophia might secretly be scheming, but with the way RB plays it, (if that’s what they’re going for), it doesn’t seem to be working. Tate was also really sweet and dorky during the party too The drug scenes didn’t do much for me though. I don’t mind that Kevin panicked and ran off with the drug once he heard Steve and Shawn coming, but I felt like that story was the weakest part of today. But I am interested in seeing what happens next. And I couldn’t help but laugh when I noticed that Steve and Shawn had matching jackets Btw, I see Mayor Price established a quid pro quo with Xander today lol I wouldn’t mind that being more than just a plot point. It could lead to some pretty good drama if it’s handled correctly. And it would be a lot better than Xander declaring war on Sweet Bits/Chanel and Felicity.  And Stephanie, finally having her mother to confide in about her life, her relationship with Alex, etc. has been one of the best things about the Paula/Jeanne episodes. The book thing still seems very Ron/Jamey-like though, mostly because it’s so centered around Alex, sort of like how GH used to make storylines about Liz all about Finn or Franco Hopefully, Stephanie talks to Kayla about the book. I’d like to hear more of her perspective on it. I also like that Kayla and Marlena were there for each other as well. These are such better ways to use all three of them. And, we got an update about John One other thing I’ve noticed about the Paula/Jeanne episodes (except for the ones that are worked on by Jamey) is that they’re longer than Ron episodes. Episodes usually clock in at around 40-41 minutes now, as opposed to 35-37, or as short as 31. I like that.
    • Also Victor being the obstacle for Kyle/Claire feels forced. If anything it should be Diane. Diane has a history of having issues with the Newmans, doesn’t she? Jack could be the one trying to reel her in while she’s meddling in Kyle and Claire’s relationship. They’re making the characters of Diane, Victoria, Nick, Sharon be way too complacent when they could have a stronger role in the younger characters like Mariah/Tessa, Kyle/Claire etc
    • A year later we had these ratings for the week of May 11-17 1987. This was probably the last time the CBS soaps (at least til Dallas’ finale) ranked this high. Dynasty had already ended its season.  CBS reran the Dallas Early Years movie on Saturday night against Golden Girls’ season finale, which was the failed Empty Nest back door pilot.  Interestingly a repeat Family Ties was #1 this week. The week before the season finale of Family Ties beat out Cosby as well, but it was Cheers that beat them both out with Diane’s exit.

    • Hello to everybody!

I'm writing a series of essays about the first time of a LGBT character in US soaps. I already have datas about Sharon Duvall in DAYS (1977) as first Bisex, Lynn Carson in AMC (1983) as first Lesbian, Hank Elliott on ATWT (1989) as first Gay (someone have or can find the episode in which Paul Ryan finds out about Hank and does not take it very well? I have seen Hank's coming out to Iva and when Hank gets a bullet to save Paul's life from the latter evil father and when he gets tested for HIV after finding out Charlie's diagnosis, but Soap Opera Digest recaps are too much concises...) and Billy Douglas on OLTL (1992) as first LGBT teen in both daytime and primetime TV (I have seen all the episodes on You Tube. BTW, what a great storyline, why it was ignored by the Emmys? Andrew Carpenter and Billy's father players are both really great in their roles! Oh, well, if OLTL was not nominated for Best Drama in 1994 with Marty's gang rape story which won four major awards and was spectacular, no surprise at all - sadly) and I have read something about Azure in The City (1996) as first Trans, but I'd like to see the episode where Bernado finds out and Azure confirms what is said in that newspaper to have something to quote. I like quoting, it gives the essays more depth. I already read the biweekly recaps from Soap Opera Digest on Tumblr and single episodes recaps on IMDB, but I'd like to have more to write about. And something more about critics and public opinions - I only knows that the storyline was rapidly axed because of bad writing and bad performance by Carlotta Chung, but I have nothing to quote.   PS Thank you @JAS0N47 for your incredible and rich site (and work on it). In particular for the Nielsen ratings on weekly basis lists since 1974 and for everything about Sharon Duval - specially for the script of the confession episode dated 23 May 1977! I'm not a DAYS viewers (I'm Italian, I live in Italy and on You Tube there is almost nothing if not short videos), but I've seen some clips of Marlena's first possession (Deidre Hall is terrific in it! Storyline is garbage, but it has its chilling moments and it is funny - I laugh everytime I remember Kristen say to Marlena "according to the book of demonology"! Was she an espert of demons or what!? ) and read on Soap Opera Central daily recaps about infamous Melaswen (brainwashed Marlena has a particular sense of humor - killing ex alcoholic Maggie with a bottle of wine and Alice with her donuts...), so I know something about the soap. Little, but better than nothing.
