I swear my friend told me there was a promo all week, but to be honest I don't remember it in real time.  I want to say I did see it on you tube and it wasn't explicitly showing her face, but her from behind and her with the sunglasses on.  You could clearly tell it was Vanessa.  It also showed a ton of Brenda/Jax flashbacks so that was probably a give away as well.  *I'll look for it.  It's a pretty deep dive into Brenda return promos on you tube though lol

When you look back on the story it's actually pretty obvious she was going to appear, but I was shocked, so even if they were teasing it her #1 fan missed it.  I was an on and off watcher back then, so I must have expected something to tune in, but I did like Jax a ton back then.

Oooo...now I am intrigued.

But that said...was this during the time of the lookalike, too? If so, clever misdirection. I was not regular watching then, either. But just from the article I read at the time, it said specifically which dates to watch.

The only time a soap has legitimately shocked me was the end of episode reveal that Kevin was Michael's brother on Y&R. There were zero hints or buildup to it but when it happened it made perfect sense.

Yes.  This is when Eva Longoria appeared as a Brenda lookalike.  I can find the actual scenes on you tube not the promo.  She starts around the 12:30 mark.  The clip has some of the backstory, but it has a lot of Jax/Chloe lol.

But seriously, yes, I remember some of that storyline. And I always love seeing VM. But I soooo wanted to see this promo.  ;(

I really liked Jax, but outside of everything being tainted, 2000 isn't a particularly good period for him.  Chloe/Jax are so boring.  And just speaking of looking for things on you tube, even before Ingo was the worst, he never built up a following the way Brenda or Sonny or Carly did so almost all his stories on you tube are buried in those sub-channels. But when I have time I will find this promo!!

Shannon coming back from the dead on ATWT in the 90s.

Throughout the episode, Duncan had an argument with Jessica because she was at a protest.  He gets a call that his wife is in custody so he goes to where she's at.  And he looks in shock and the last frame was Shannon's disheveled look before end credits..and on a Friday

When Scott Byce who played Craig Montgomery, appeared disguised as "Tony Impostore" to help say goodbye to Anne Sward, who had played his mother Lyla Montgomery Perretti for years and was leaving the show. She looked genuinely shocked and you could hear audible gasps and whoops, so I believe that, not only was it kept a secret from viewers but it was likely kept a secret from the cast as well, with the likely exception of Eileen Fulton.

    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
    • And that charity does still get mentioned from time to time. I want to say the last time was some time this year, too.
    • Oh, no. Vernon has definitely had his moments.   Choose silence anyone?
    • Search YT for Edwyn Sanchez, he posted an AI enhanced episode of ATWT and it is beautiful.
    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
