All: character may be killed off

Yes, if this is supposed to be a murder mystery, it's the most ineptly set up one in the show's history (and that covers a lot of murders). It's hard for me to get too upset since death means nothing on DAYS, but I like Marci and the show is going to suffer without a viable heroine in her age range. On a shallow note, I think Marci has been looking exceptionally pretty of late.

Well, I don't know if it's shallow but she sure has!

By blood she's a Horton, by blood and by name she's a Deveraux and by marriage she's one of the new generations of DiMera! I don't know any way she could be more legacy. I guess we could say that she's the mother of a new generation yet again of DiMeras, as she has 2 children that we know! If we make up a word, she is the most legacious of all possibilities onscreen. This waste of a character life is as bad as it gets!

Personally, regardless of what was said in the interview, I think the better thing to do was not give interviews until AFTER the death and not give out spoilers that allude to any death on the show. This way viewers all around would be truly shocked by a sudden death of a character as they wondered why someone would kill such a person, especially a young mother.

With that said, the reasons for killing Abby don't sit well with me as no one seems to have as valid reason for doing so with the exception of maybe Gwen who shouldn't be able to have committed the crime since she's supposed to be "in prison."

I think a shocking murder of a character like Abby would be a great plot twist if done right.

Maybe they should stop trying to make everything a shocking surprise and instead focus on giving more attention to how the characters react to these big events. Maybe it's only me but I would get just as much pleasure (if perhaps not even more) out of watching everyone react to something like Abby's murder, and even watching everything leading up to it knowing that it's about to happen. Watching the human drama, instead of just wafer-thin characters playing out storylines without any depth.

But the soaps now jump from plotpoint to plotpoint without bothering to write proper build-up and/or aftermath.

my 2 theories:

#1 the Abigail we've seen this whole time was a clone that went out of control, and when Kristen was calling her back she refused so Kristen went to get her and ended up killing her. The real Abigail is on the island, still.

#2 with the help of Kristen, Gwen got a mask of herself and Abigail. She hired somebody to play her in prison while she snuck out to get revenge... when the real Abigail saw her own face staring back at her she split and became Gabi. Finally free, Gabi "killed" Abby and ran away, etc.

Or, you know, radical idea here...recast AGAIN.

Kate Mansi was a recast. Marci Miller was a recast. Mike Horton had bunches of actors play him.

Chad still could have been freed. Couples do not last forever.

But, as this stands, this is just more of Ron's bullshyt tactic of killing yet another legacy character for short-term shock value, but decimating the show long term. (See also, in no particular order: Laura Horton, Bill Horton [could have been recast; the actor that played the role for Alice's funeral was great!], David Banning, Adrienne Johnson, likely Neil Curtin, the way Maggie spoke to Sarah about him...) But at least his precious retcon Gwen gets to be Jack's lone span on canvas.

    • Thanks. I'd forgotten about that. It is odd she wasn't asked back. Maybe they just gave up.  Harley/Philip is one of those relationships which lingered on longer than it should have. I never got the sense the show had any great interest in them together beyond the first six months or so, and there was little to no chemistry between them after that point.

    • I am just so happy with the new writing. Everything feels so much more mature. The connections between plots and characters reminds me of the eighties, and I just plain old LIKE everybody. I very much enjoyed Philip's apology tour with his two exes, and both of them being gracious to him. This version of Philip is so interesting, very flawed, but trying to do better, and I do believe he wanted the brother bond with Xander very much and is hoping to get that back. Speaking of brothers, we got Xander's first ever mention of his other brother, Bo. And how interesting that Titan is also working on a cure for sepsis. If the one with Dr Russell falls through we have a back up plan. And the seamless writing continued with Sarah trying to get out of a conference and Kayla needing to get Dr Russell out of town, I love when things just make sense like that. Shout out to Xander with cucumbers on his eyes lol And under the new regime I am not hating Stalex. I think this couple was just hammered by Ron by constantly making them sleep with other people. It was hard to root for them when the writer didn't care about them as a pairing, just about getting Rob naked. I am happy to see what happens here too. Stefan got a get well card to EJ? I wonder if it had a coded HELP ME in the message. Glad Kayla turned him down. She should never forget how he used Steve as a pawn back in the day. Characters are actually remembering this stuff these days.
    • That happens sometimes on cbs/paramount. Just refresh the page and it should work.
    • In a 1997 SOD article, Ehlers mentions that she was asked to return several times, but was surprised she wasn't asked to return for her "mother's" funeral.  This was when she returned for the 60th Anniversary event. They were a really popular pairing for a few years ago.  As an older viewer, it seemed strange seeing Beth as the odd one out, but 1998 Beth was a totally different character.  She was written as a manipulative, vixen.

    • It seems obvious based on the initial material that Korte was going to take another foolish run at Jason and Carly a la 2021 and hoped Mulcahey being back would make it work, as he wrote such famous material for Steve, Sarah, etc. I think a couple good dialogue scenes came out of them together very early on, but there was never any denying that Steve and Laura have never had and will never have any romantic chemistry, plus the audience doesn't want it. So they pivoted to her with that useless dayplayer (Brennan) and now here they all are, spinning their wheels doing nothing of value on the show. I do think PM had planned to do much more with Jason's sons and that rivalry/friction, but once he was gone so was Jake. I've rarely seen any of the core mob 3 feel so totally extraneous and directionless on the canvas. Not that I mind. Anything that makes Jason easier to get rid of works for me.
    • I just edited the 1998 SOD Awards & Laura Wright won Best New Character for Cassie on GL. Also Philip & Harley won something of some name for them as a couple & when they finished saying their effusive thanks at the mic, Grant picked Beth up & literally threw her over his shoulder & walked backstage that way. I mean, it's great that Beth Ehlers is a good sport, right?
