DAYS: 30+ Year Vet Quits!

DAYS invested more in Bo without Hope than Hope without Bo.  Even in the 1990’s, Bo still had Victor, his mother and Shawn, and relationships that mattered (Carly and Billie).  Hope had a fantastic return to the show.  But when they chose to invest in her missing years, I felt then and now that what they did was nonsense, and a dead end.  We saw Doug and Julie rarely when she came back, while Bo’s parents were always there to lean on.  Yes, we had Alice Horton and a terrible recast of Jennifer,  but it wasn’t the same as an entire family.

Compare this to how GH utilized Laura’s missing years, which lead to years of character and plot driven stories.

She was great on MP!

While all that you say is true, don't forget: When Bo was without Hope - with Carly and Billie - soaps still had good writing (for the most part). And soaps still had decent ratings. Most of all? They had a BUDGET. One can say it shouldn't matter if the writing is there.

But that is the other big problem.

It wasn't. Be it because of network interference, retirement, or death. But most of the qualified writers are LONG gone.

So Hope may have suffered in being alone when the very genre is hanging by a thread. It may seem simplistic. But it's still true.

Well that is true.  In what was an otherwise rough time on DAYS in the early 1990’s, I felt back then that Carly was a great character.  So even during rough times there was still excellent soap and good characters, few and far between now.

To me Bo was a non-recastable character, but thanks to Carly and Billie and good writing, I totally bought and enjoyed RKK (although not as much as Peter.)

I think if they had gone a non-camp/doppelgänger route with Hope’s missing years, it would have given her a story to go back to during these times when the writing is not as good and the budget is tight.  It’s hard to give Princess Gina a real chance without Stefano and the scope.

Princess Gina was garbage. KA deserved so much better. Alas, the final leg of her tenure was written by a hack that can't do a non-camp story well to save his life. No wonder KA said the show is not the Days she knew. She's right.

Kristian has handled this exit masterfully. When was the last time a soap star's exit got this kind of mainstream coverage. The Covid-19 pandemic has helped as celebrity news has ground to a halt, but Kristian has played this exit very well.

If B&B had any sense, they'd snap her up to play a corrupt modelling agent, in the vein of the Heidi Fleiss role she played in Melrose Place:

As I said in my first post in this thread, the heroine role that they placed Hope in for the last two decades got so tired and reduced the character. Kristian plays a hard, ruthless woman incredibly well and in Melrose Place she seemed to really enjoy herself and excel.

I agree with you. I'm getting the same vibe from her. If this was 80's era Hope or even 90's Hope i would miss her. This Hope can stay gone.

I call it how I see it.

Greg Vaughan has an exit interview in the new SOD and he made similar comments re Ron's writing, and Albert Alarr, and the behind-the-scenes mess that is Days.

Will the same overly invested people bring the knives out for GV too?

Well that interview just cements what viewers have been complaining about.  They have a full cast with lots of characters/actors that the audience wants to see in story, and they are not being utilized properly or at all.

It's a shame because there's a lot of love behind the scenes. They want the show to be the best it can be, but with empty promises and hype that doesn't materialize, it's easy to see why so many are bolting.

If you've been at a job for 37 years and your employer was like, "we're not going to pay you for 5 months, but after that you can come back," would you be happy?  Of course not. You would look at other jobs.  I too don't see how she was spoiled or stuck up.

One of the reasons Hope was popular was because she had an edge to her even in the 80s during the super couple era.

I think Ron C has trouble writing for Hope because she's a hard character to put in a character trope.  She's tough, can bend the rules, flawed..yet at her core is a good person.  KA has a colder and steely way of playing Hope..that makes it impossible for Ron C to write for since he loves OTT actresses.
