And Eric Braeden was great in those scenes with Nikki and Douglas Austin. The dude is very talented, and it’s so easy to forget that given what we’ve seen in recent years (with rare exceptions).

I'm mad because there was no iconic Rex/Katherine shot in the opening, but I'll live.

THIS is the Y&R everyone in my family was obsessed with and us kids grew up with. It just looks and sounds so perfect, and every character shown so far is important to the very fiber of the show's being. After only ten minutes, it's heartbreaking to think of how far this show has fallen.

Look at how beautiful and rich these location scenes with Dru and Neil are. No attempt to get fancy with film. Just straight videotape, and it's gorgeous. They knew it was a soap, and they were proud of it.

Dru and Neil - pure romance that isn't overblown and contrived. A laid-back couple basking in the glow of new wedded bliss.

And the perfectly understated Y&R music. Did I hear the old "Genoa City Theme" in that Brad/Ashley scene?

Classic Victor and Nicki angst. This episode has it all even with just a handful-and-a-half of characters.

That LUSH music coming to crescendo and then fading out as we hold on Nicki's tear-stained face for a silent beat - then fade to black. It's art, damn it.

Yep, that was the "Genoa City Theme". Such a great episode.

The LA market's broadcast of today's episode was interrupted three times. If anyone has the full episode, I'd love to see it...or I'll have to check CAA.

Can someone explain how Jack and Nikki ended up with the ranch? I can’t imagine Victor giving it up or Jack even wanting to live there.

Didn't Victor and Nikki fight over it in the divorce but Victor finally agreed to let her have it.

I’ve only watched Y&R for 6 years so I have a few questions.  Is Jill pregnant with Billy?  And isn’t Victoria a teenager at this time?   Did they massively SORAS Billy?

I think you’re right, it was from the 1988 divorce and of course Victor moved into a penthouse in town and lived there for several years. I’m not quite sure when Victor moved back to the ranch though.

Victor moved back when he and Nikki got back together in 1998.

It’s hard to imagine now that Bell kept Nikki and Victor apart for a good decade. They were still intertwined, but they were allowed to have independent lives and interest away from one another. Writing choices like that would never happen on soaps today.

and better yet...I don't think either got away with dictating to the writers who they want to be paired with...(looking  at you Morrow and Stafford)

Thanks! I had thought that was the case but wasn’t confident it about it.

That and there was so many close calls over the years of just when you thought they’d get back together, Nikki gets pregnant, Victor is in love with Hope, Nikki having a secret affair with Brad etc yet the two were always jealous and protective of each other... with Nikki taunting Christine in the aftermath of Victor’s shooting to Victor taunting Josh Landers that he knew of Josh’s history and what happened to Veronica. It was fun stuff and really kept the Victor/Nikki relationship alive through the 90’s.

Yeah Jill is pregnant with Billy. He’s had some Days of our Lives SORASING. He comes across as older than Victoria at this point.
