They should've made this announcement about 8 years ago, but...

That's unfortunate :(

Ok, I'm kind of sad to be honest :( even if it sounded like they were really going to make the awards a lot different then they usually are...

I'm just glad Susan Lucci got her Emmy way before now.

In all honesty, the Daytime Emmys ceremony hasn't been relevant in years. Just present the main daytime drama awards on The Talk.

Susan Lucci winning actually started the slide into irrelevancy. Once she FINALLY won, it seemed the audience got what they wanted to see (her win), then tuned out more and more thereafter.

Susan's win in 1999 coincided with the millennium and the major downward trajectory in soap opera ratings - it really was the perfect storm and in some ways the most poetic end to the relevancy of the soap opera in the mainstream.

You are definitely right that once she won the show lost a great deal of what made it exciting.

1994 Daytime Emmy Awards - Full Show

This was an interesting one where two shows split the acting categories evenly (GL and OLTL). GL won for Directing, and OLTL won for Writing. Best Show? That went to AMC (their only award in the main categories), GL was nominated by didn't win, and OLTL didn't even get a nomination in that category that year.

Highlight for me? Michael Zaslow FINALLY winning Best Actor.

Best Show: AMC

Best Writing: OLTL

Best Directing: GL

Best Actor: Michael Zaslow (GL)

Best Actress: Hillary B. Smith (OLTL)

Best Supporting Actor: Justin Deas (GL)

Best Supporting Actress: Susan Haskell (OLTL)

Best Younger Actor: Roger Howarth (OLTL)

Best Younger Actress: Melissa Hayden (GL)
