Also before the deep-seated mistrust of government...not that it hasn't to some degree been earned during these decades but I truly don't think, despite people like Mitch McConnell, that's there's some government plot to commit American genocide (even among political divides) or that Andrew Cuomo put restrictions in place because he was trying to be Il Duce of NYS.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever believed that people were smarter than this...or smarter now than in the past, at least not in basic nature. I've been of the opinion that, yes, we've made amazing technological and medical advances but basic human wants and fears that ultimately drive people....nah, that hasn't changed. (And certain people throughout history, both distant and recent, not only recognize but exploit this.) The costumes, props and sets have changed over the centuries but greed, fear of differences, self above others...always there. As nice as Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek vision was and how hopeful it painted things in terms of mankind overcoming its baser instincts, I fear human nature will turn things more dystopian.

I do have Facebook but, unlike many, I started it to play some games and find pages of entertainment interest, not to engage with anybody I know IRL. I limit my interaction to sites of personal interest where the administrators usually keep things friendly, on topic, and they ban trolls or people who get rude. I don't normally post in the "heavier" topics on this board but I felt like I needed a place to share what I saw and heard today. I mean, that was one person's reaction but it was among one of the more extreme ones I've seen in someone I know personally.

I just saw the news about the mandate for federal employees to get the vaccine without having a test out option. I work for the federal government and I know that at least some of the federal employees are not going to be happy about this at all. I wonder how many of them may consider quitting their jobs. There are some decent paying jobs with the federal government with excellent benefits, like good retirement plans and generous leave. If there are quite a few people that quit their federal jobs due to this, other people can keep their resumes ready. If anyone wants some tips on how to apply for a federal job let me know,  and I will give you some tips.

    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story.  Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role.  These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name).  I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond.  The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
    • Which officially started to feel that way today with them hearing each other out as they confronted each other at the same time.    Same. He was even catching himself when he was about to go overboard or do those tics that people don't seem to like. He failed a bit at the end, but he carried. It makes me think about a month back when it was discussed that the actor was better in other things he's been in. And I questioned then if that meant that he was playing Martin more intentionally. I questioned that briefly again today because he was giving.
    • I really like the actress who plays Margo. Don't know  her name. I'm so hesitant to google anyone because I don't want to know the length they were on the show. I've watched two episodes and I have to say that the show does not feel as dated as other shows. I tried to watch Ryan's Hope a few weeks back and some of the acting was a bit rough. EON is a lot more natural which amuses me considering it's a mystery/thriller show.
