Romantic Pairings that Should Have Been—But the Show Didn't Go There

Patrick and Elizabeth - GH

Imagine if that was the pairing instead of him and Sabrina, especially when Robin came back during their wedding. Patrick could've bonded with her boys and Liz could've been a great mother figure to Emma.

ATWT Frannie Hughes and Casey Perretti.

Julianne Moore and Bill Shanks had so much more onscreen chemistry than Moore had with Steve Bassett who played Seth Snyder.

Even if the show tried it only for a brief spell, it would've been fun to watch Bob Hughes lose his sh*t and by the time Bob and Casey started to get along, Frannie could dumped Casey for Seth, then of course, she'd eventually get cheated on by Seth and her identical half-sister/cousin Sabrina.

I realize that the show wanted to root the Snyders even more to the canvas by connecting them with one of Oakdale's core families but the Frannie/Seth relationship never truly took root anyway, so before Casey eventually married Lyla, they should've had Frannie and Casey date for a spell.

Y&R should have pursued a relationship between Nikki Reed Newman and Bobby Marsino.  We know that Melody wanted it, lol and it might have been interesting since there was a ready-made backstory that connected the two. We know that eventually Nikki finds her way back to Victor but instead of trying Nikki with Jack a third and fourth time, it might've been more interesting to see how Nikki and Bobby's chemistry as a couple would fare.

So true! He had great chemistry with both, especially Brooke. It amazes me they never went there.

Id add Neil/Victoria (Amelia Heigl’s) on Y&R. For years she struggled to be interesting and they always had nice chemistry but they never did anything with it.

GH

Alexis and Jax-so much wasted chemistry

Nik and Robin back in the late 90's

Georgie and Spinelli

Kristina and Ethan (I know LA looked only 15 at the time)

Yes, Sami and Lucas were married and have 2 kids together.  They were paired off and on for years.  Agree about Jason and Elizabeth too.  They were paired it was just highly unsatisfying for their fans.

Thank you, so they were certainly paired. I agree 100% with you about Ethan and Kristina. LA did look young, but that never stopped them with Robin and Jason. I think Steve Burton and Kimberly McCoullough also have a larger age difference than Lexi Ainsworth and Nathan Parsons who were only four years apart. More than anything, I think they just had fantastic chemistry.

Honestly even though KMc was young and looked it, her and Jason didn't look that far apart in age to me.  Maybe it's because Robin is a more mature character or the fact we saw them going to high school together so I knew they were fairly close in age on the show-I think they were only 2 years apart.   I did think it was slightly weird they kept Robin in high school for so long when her (slightly) older peers (Jason, Keesha, Brenda, Karen, Jagger) were all moved into very adult stories.  I legit felt Robin was in high school for most of the 90's while Brenda was on her 3rd engagement/marriage by the time Robin graduated.  Plus before SBu got all big and buff, he did have a baby face I think.

Regardless, I thought LA and NP had great chemistry.  I loved when Kristina said she would marry him someday at S&B's wedding.  It could have been a sweet, slow burning love story where the young girl actually lands her crush ala Jason/Robin.  Such a missed opportunity as I feel like the show STILL doesn't know what to do with Kristina and NP probably won't ever return.

I am surprised the show never paired Lucky and Emily.  When they were kids/young teens that looked like where the show was headed.  I did love young Liz and Lucky though.

They dabbled with the idea slightly when Greg Vaughan and Natalia Livingston were in the roles. Nikolas was presumed dead, but he was actually with Mary Bishop. GV and NL had nice, relatable chemistry. I recall a sweet scene in the park when they were eating cookies during a picnic and were looking up at the clouds describing what they looked like. Then moody Nikolas showed up and the moment was for naught.

Thanks.  I must have missed that.  I remember GV's Lucky paired with Emily's eyeliner loving random twin but no real sparks between him and Emily.  I really dislike NL's version of Emily mostly I think because of her stupid endgame pairing with Nik and her creepy romance with Sonny.  Plus I really liked Zander.

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.

    • Well now we had Ashley's reaction-and weren't we all gasping when she appeared to hate it-but she was just joking!! She loved it. Now we have to see Abby's reaction, and maybe Mamie could come back to say she loves it. How about Jill via Zoom giving her opinion (she'll love it) and bring in a day player to play Mrs Martinez to say she loves it also... I feel bad to keep dumping on this show (not really) but when the choices they make are so inane, it's the only entertainment value the show has. Let's unpack the Nikki birthday story. So Claire wants to throw her Nana a birthday bash as away of endearing Kyle to Victor. Don't quite get the logic there, but OK. She hires a party planner who makes ridiculous suggestions. Slightly annoyed that Y&R are hiring someone for this role for 5 episodes when we never see doctors, co- workers etc. But OK to that to. With all the talk we are expecting something special. What we get is the Jazz Lounge hideously decorated with some ugly tablecloths and a few tacky decorations. They needed a planner for this? Then the guest list consists of family members (no grandchildren)and a few others. Hardly a party. As usual the costuming is pretty awful. A red and black theme ? And our guest of honor is sporting a do that looks like a cross between Cameron Diaz in Something about Mary and Marie from Roxette. They should have had an intimate dinner and ditched all the fanfare. Would have been way more believable.

    • Her accent sounds horrible and doesn't fit in line with the character or the dialogue. I was just messing around on YouTube and perusing early Tad and Dixie videos. Notably, Dixie, a resident of Pigeon Hollow, West Virginia, has no discernible accent. i have no idea why she would add a defunct accent to this character now. I want to do an honest survey here. I watch BTG every day and I love it. It's not perfect, but I find it 99% entertaining. For those that find fault with it - what is actually bothering you? I'm not going to argue at all, or disagree with you. I just want to know what others are seeing that I'm not.
    • It's a choice and today, she made it more British than ever before. It's almost like she's making Pamela act like how she thinks she should be acting.
