oh wow.  LOL Well he did a snap poll to see what people thought about reinstating Tr*mp.  Very unscientific. They said yes so he did.

Yesterday he did a snap poll (again unscientific) about restoring the twitter accounts of the journalists that he had just suspended. That result was clear so he reinstated some but not all of them.

I guess this is how he decides things?

I wish Jack Dorsey cared enough to fix this, but I don't know .....  He wrote a long essay last week about how nobody should suspend accounts or control twitter, that AI algorithms should be able to manage things.

I read a little bit of it but then ... I had to stop.  I mean ... Jack doesn't seem to allow for the fact that sociopaths unfortunately exist.

Earlier today, Twitter Support tweeted out this twitter thread:
(It's since been deleted from twitter, but here is what is said):

We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter.
— Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) December 18, 2022
https://twitter.com/TwitterSupport/status/1604531261791522817

Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

We still allow cross-posting content from any social media platform. Posting links or usernames to social media platforms not listed above are also not in violation of this policy.

If you click on the link they gave for rules and policies, it showed this (This is a screencap of what it showed):

After that, twitter founder Jack Dorsey (@jack) tweeted a simple "Why?" in reply to that Twitter Support thread.
At this link:
https://twitter.com/jack/status/1604554032831287298

At last check, jack's "Why?" tweet is still up ... but who knows what may happen, LOL.

I was thinking that he was speaking for *all* the people who would want the right to tweet about any other platforms.  But now that I look at this, I think that perhaps Jack was complaining specifically because Nostr is one of the things forbidden to discuss.  Jack is into Nostr.

In the meantime, Twitter Support has taken down all four of those tweets, and they have made that policy page blank.

I think it's no longer newsworthy that M*sk is saying stupid outrageous things. I mean I'm not bothering to post about it because he'll just say another stupid outrageous thing the next day.

However, the *actions* he takes do affect people in the real world who were relying on twitter to discuss important human rights issues.  Thankfully people are finding other platforms to move to, but still.

Meanwhile...
Interesting article about how Mastodon has grown by 800%.  And other companies being supportive.

Gone already. Increasingly the young staff of these predominantly online outlets think they can get cute and everyone will appreciate their being edgy for the sake of 'jokes'. The whole 'nepo baby' flap was equally embarrassing while poorly attempting to feint to class critique, which is the basis for so many weak takes these days. Unlike EW, NY Mag/Vulture does some good work but has also tried to put dumb stuff over more than once. Too many writers are stuck believing they're forever 21. It's a systemic thing that permeates the media culture now.

C-SPAN likes to go in and show close-ups (without audio) of various congresspersons chatting between votes.  But that's not allowed when Congress is formally in session.

This isn't the case during Speaker elections.

C-SPAN has been showing all sorts of (no audio) conversations in the past two days.  Fascinating.

People have been tweeting out the closeups of the congresspersons and others have been tweeting out replies with humorous guesses as to what they are saying.
