Ryan and Sheri should be able to guide Ron in certain directions. I wonder what the collaboration is like. Obviously Ron has the 'control' so to speak but I wonder just how much input Ryan and Sheri have. Sometimes I think I see their influence and other times I'm not sure. Ron's major problem with DAYS so far is not being super familar with it, but that's where Sheri and Ryan should come in ... but he's doing a good job. I think he 'gets' the show but there seem to be a lot of behind the scenes restrictions, like budget, episode guarantees, mandates from Corday, NBC, Sony, who knows who else ...

Would also be nice if they dimmed the lights a bit. Mood lighting goes a long way to make something cheap look a little better ... I wish they understood this. But at least the show isn't pink like it was for a while and the lighting actually isn't AS bright as it once was. But the show needs a lot of help ... lol.

But it's chugging along so kudos to them. It's been my #1 so I'm glad it's sticking around.

I think some of my "issues" are the episode guarantees, I wanted a few more permanent returns, I wanted better development of some characters, I wanted a bit more nods to the past like Ron's known for. I'm also getting whiplash with all the drive-by visits (is Anna gone?), even though I'm happy to see characters pop in and out, but it ultimately feels like a big tease because I want so many of these returns to be permanent. (Obviously a lot of these aren't issues or thought of by those running the show lol and Ron's not really at fault for some of it)

I like Jennifer and Eric but they're so far on the backburner it isn't even funny (and the lack of interaction with Brady and Eve, a pairing I'm not sold on but don't totally hate, makes no sense, but I see they finally had a little bit). I like the potential of Tripp and Ciara but Ciara kissing Rafe's ass is irking me. I wish Rope would end permanently (and I think if it were only up to Ron they would be). I like Will and Paul but I fear Sonny looming in the background. The baby story isn't awful but I don't care about many of those in the story and I wish I did, I really want to. I don't know that I care for the Abby story, but it's where I figured Ron would go with her. I miss Kate Mansi so much. She'd sell the hell out of this. Stefan is boring. Vivian is being wasted. John and Marlena and Steve and Kayla are being used, which is nice, but I can't say I'm loving what they're getting but I'll take it over Higley and Tomsell's garbage for them anyday.

Anyway, I'm tired and rambling but while I can enjoy the show, usually, on a daily basis, there's a lot of things I'd have liked fixed or want fixed. Obviously they're personal wants and not everything is an actual "issue". A real issue to fix would be episode guarantees and the lighting. But then they're broke so ...

@KMan101 I totally agree with all you have said. I was hoping for more family interactions, John or Marlena never visit Brady and Tate, Claire calls Brady and Eric by their names versus “Uncle Brady or Uncle Eric”, Do Victor know Ciara is back in town?, Will and Abby were super close, but shared one or two scenes since his return. Will & Claire are double cousins as he and Ciara and no interactions. I need to see that family time within the stories

SO MANY FAMILY CONNECTIONS lol. I get it's probably hard to keep up with everyone who should logically be interacting, I'm flexible and I'm willing to give a pass to certain relationships not getting play but yeah, so many missed opportunities.

I'm still sour over not seeing John and Marlena spending Christmas Eve with their family (we could have had John talk to Will about not remembering anyone and it could have been a bonding moment we remember when John's pulling a gun on him two months later), and then New Years with Steve and Kayla (to better set up the poisoning story). But I suspect in this case the storyline was randomly dropped in.

It just feels so much more about plot anymore and little family moments we used to get are just so rare anymore. They do good for a while and then fall back into the old pattern of isolation. It's not nearly as bad as it has been but some of it's glaring. I do see a slight improvement lately. Slight.

This isn't really a Ron problem though. I've noticed this through various regimes. They start out well with breaking people out of their bubbles and interacting with each other and then it's right back to the way it usually is. It's gotta be episode guarantee/budget related, and I imagine certain interactions get forgotten about, probably not intentional, but when you can only use someone a few times a month I think it's lessened the cast interaction.

There are too many relations. The show would do well to cull a lot of cast and bring a new family in. It would be impossible to fit it all in and I think the show does itself a disservice by making itself so complicated.

That's my first thought. "Hooray, Deidre and Kristian etc. have a job for another year!"

I'm happy for the cast and crew, and can only hope they conjure up something good.

I agree, it's the budget restrictions, the episode guarantees, etc. that keep this show from becoming a solid performer overall. And yes, fix the lighting to hide the cheap, cardboard re-dressed sets. And please remember that when people are supposed to be "outside," there should be ambient outdoor noise to reflect that. Just make sure you get your background cues correctly. About a month back, they had the sound of crickets chirping... in February. No. Wrong.

Anyhow, I think they'll keep Ron Carlivati. I don't think this one-year reprieve means Ken would pull out one of his buddies to be headwriter again. I mean, Ron has given more material to Ken's golf buddy, Josh Taylor, moreso than anyone else in years!

Definitely. It seems ever since 2011, any actress (usually a "known" soap name) under 40 brought on is given a bland, unexciting, one-dimensional role and expected to turn water into wine.

I've only been watching since Ron took over in July, and I had no idea that John was Brady's father! I don't think they've shared a scene together since then, but the other day Brady referred to him as his dad and I was like 'Oh!'

It is definitely the episode guarantees that are affecting these things. Anyway, I'm delighted for the show's renewal, it has so much potential and it's really entertaining, IMHO.

I totally agree! I thought Madison James had potential especially with her ties to Sami & Eric’s Colorado life and Sarah Brown had chemistry with her screen partners, I could have done without Ian being her husband. I did like the idea of him being Stefano’s brother.

No not a Ron problem at all, just some jarring things I have seen over the years.

I also liked Madison at the outset. But she wasn't insane, a vixen or a DiMera, so fans used to that type of character tuned out.

This.

I hate that TPTB didn't give Madison a try and just killed her off. I feel like the show was stupid for not putting her against Sami and Kate in the long term. I truly think Madison had a chance to be one of DAYS last, great breakout characters.

    • Yikes -a Cane/Phyllis sex scene. Why was there no warning before this episode aired? And of course Phyllis had sex with her bra on.  Had to laugh when Cane, trying to think of Phyllis' password to sneak into her laptop, talks out loud so we (and she) can be clued into what's happening. What is Phyllis' financial standing? At one point she was wealthy enough to run a hotel-which she gave up in an instant(can't remember why-some inane reason) Now she's scrounging around for a job with Cane. The many residents of the GCAC who are living in hotel rooms don't seem to do anything to personalize their space-no photos, books etc. The GCAC must have a strict policy on that. Nikki did look good today. Still find her hairstyle a little dowdy though.
    • Then 87 is the year you're looking for. Vanessa leaves town in Jan 88. When I saw Jenny counseling Dinah about George making the pass at her, all I could think was that Van would be pissed Ross' latest fling was advising her daughter. Cop or not.
    • As much as I hate Phyllis, seeing Billy Flynn in those boxers briefs in today's episode, has me almost tolerating her. BF looks

    • Dear sweet June, you'll get it right eventually.  In the meantime it's a good chuckle.

    • Damn, Leslie went in on Shanice... poor girl! Leslie really can't handle stress or certain emotions well, she lashes out. I also think it's weird she wants to know so many details about Eva's love/sex life. Vernon was sweet to June. It was nice (realistic) to see a customer complain to her though while she's still trying to establish herself. I'll be that guy, but for me personally, my enthusiam/excitement over the show has stalled yet again over the last couple weeks. For the majority, it seems like we're in a holding pattern until Winterfest. It's like they don't want to rock the boat or do much until then, which leaves us in a quiet period here. Are sweeps a thing still these days? Seems odd that we're having a slow November. That ending was good, but I saw that coming... in theory it should have a quick resolution, but I'm guessing Leslie will expose it at Winterfest and it'll get throw out of proportion haha.
    • Yes. Why? I don't really care. Vanessa is also acting dumb, trying to run between tables, on a date with Ross in one room and a business meeting with Alan in another.  One of the few times Van is written as less than the smart woman she was.
    • I've been specifically looking for the episodes for Ross and Van together, because they essentially both raise Dinah at that period and the recaps around her typically avoid the Dorie years, the carnies, or Alan-Michael and Cam. I'm really just trying to trace a throughline between Paige, Wendy, and Gina. The last two are "easy," but it just messes with my timeline when Dinah thinks Alan-Michael would kill Ross. Then again, that Alan-Michael slept with his own stepdaughter, so...
    • Anyway...they literally mentioned the secret room today on Days and yes, this show needs a Kristen lesbian story lol.
    • Yes, they did a 'premiere' of Maggie's death episodes at the ArcLight theatre in Los Angeles, arguably then the nicest movie theatre chain in the USA. Plus, Suzanne and Deidre were in a ton of scenes together during this time. Whatever happened between them happened after 2004.
    • There are episodes with Jenny (Mary Ellen Stuart) that she was in pre-writers strike.. and I know that she lasts until at least August 1988. It's a shame that the show didn't try pairing her with Rusty since the two had more chemistry than she had with Ross and that he had with Rose.
