Ciara and Claire were great in the scenes in the room before Claire went and told Hope about Rafe cheating. And the revelation was awesome too. I love the event episodes on Days, they do them so much better than UK soaps, it makes me wish it had a bigger budget, it deserves it. I freaking love Ciara.

ETA I felt like the Eric and Jennifer stuff was drama for drama’s sake. It didn’t feel believable or natural and was out of place.

Yes to all of this. HOWEVER, I have to say I noticed a significant drop in energy from Friday to Monday. I was stunned because Richard Culliton's scripts are usually on point. This, I feel, was down to direction.

Jennifer and Eric's fight was well-written up until they laughed it off. It felt very well-written and drew me in but for them to just go "oh, I guess this is our first fight LOL" was stupid. That could've been a jumping point to some REAL drama that could carry them in a story, but...

I have to agree about Ciara. This actress has the fire that I was hoping Ciara would have when aged up. She's what I would have seen Ciara be after Lauren Boles' Ciara was aged up. It's a shame they wasted that year and a half with Lockjaw Jovanni because this Ciara is a winner.

No lies here

She was [!@#$%^&*] terrible and embarrassing at times

I agree about the Eric/Jennifer 'drama'. I also agree with @Edward Skylover that it was drama for drama's sake and that it didn't feel very natural. I think it was something they should have had a difference of opinion on but it didn't quite work for me I guess.

And I love the new Ciara. You said what I've been saying for a while now. She's the grown up version of Lauren Boles' Ciara that we deserved from the start.

I'm not here at all for Abby's DID mess. I hated Jessica's on OLTL's an I hate Abby's. I also hated Connie/Kate's. Ron should not be writing DID stories. They're just a mess.

Like...I was afraid he'd go there on DAYS, but I was hoping he'd at least bring Kim back to ressurect her DID instead giving a THIRD character what's supposed to be an incredibly rare diagnosis on the same show. As someone on here said a long time ago, it's nothing more than an excuse to get a character to behave out of character (which Ron LOVES to do instead of creating actual complex villains

).

Stefan O. STILL three months in has absolutely no backstory, no nuance, nothing interesting about him. Just a fixation on Abbygabbylauragail, and I DO. NOT. CARE. I will continue to not care until we at least get a conversation about his past and what makes him tick. It breaks at least three Marland rules, certainly to have him on so much when he's so new, and established characters who SHOULD be involved in heavy story are conspicuously absent (I know, I know, guarantees, but the renewal at the same time that Y&R and DAYS are so close in the demos should help NBC at least throw SOME extra $$$ their way).

(hope the picture of Stefan reading Kim's book shows up, it's in the next post, sorry it's small)

Ron gave Kim a book about DID. LOL. But yeah I'd have liked her back. At least we're getting a visit from Laura. Should be longer than one episode.

They're doing what they usually do with a 'name' from another soap. They rest on that so called popularity and do nothing with the character. It's ridiculous that he was already hot for Abby a month into his debut.

Yep. It's Bree Williamson all over again. Marci's on the same level and as basic as Bree and Kelly Sullivan. She's probably better than the broadway theater goddess.

The minute Ron started I knew and dreaded he'd go there with Abby. I really disliked how Dena handled her return and the mental illness. It was nothing but a plot device. Laura should have recurred and counseled Abby, etc. But, nope. Dena had to push Gabi and Chad and Abby and Dario. I'd buy she has some problems if they actually focused on them and dealt with them and wrote it all better. But this is ridiculous. I wonder what the casuals think of it? They probably love it and probably delighted in seeing the book Kim wrote about her DID (a very typical thing of Ron to do, which I don't necessarily hate but at the same time it's also a bit obnoxious when you can't bring Kim back). He handles some things like they're jokes.

I love Kim too and keep wishing Patsy was on recurring and would pop up but they barely used her when Theresa was on so ....

I liked the nod to her with the book and I believe she'd write a book about it, but that would have been nice to hear about. I had mixed feelings on the book nod too because of Patsy. I wonder if she knows about it, she probably would like the nod but who knows?

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
