Les Moonves had a lot of help from within the ranks of CBS.

Getting rid of him (and the 'Golden Parachute' is beyond insulting) is solving only half the problem, since sexism and misogyny have become part and parcel of CBS' DNA in how it functions as an organization, at virtually every level (news, daytime, primetime, limited series, etc.).

This doesn't seem odd to me at all. It seems like business as usual.  I can only hope that some of the women he's screwed with have enough evidence to file civil claim.

I mean odd as in before the last few months, I always thought he would just be forced out or retire for the usual money reasons, not on the back of sexual harassment/assault allegations.

Me too. I was resigned to him surviving this at least for a few years, but I imagine there are more women. Aren't there always, especially when someone has had a career as long as LM.  CBS probably didn't want to deal with the death by a thousand cuts.

He was never really gone.  I was watching this show called Better Things and his name popped up in the credits. He's not on it, so he must work behind the scenes.  I like the show, so I was sorry to see he's involved with it.

My question is, how will it affect her more lucrative gig at "Big Brother"?  Will the network keep her there (and at "The Talk") out of some misguided sense of loyalty to Les? Or....?

Thanks for finding that. Wow. Her career, admittedly already on a downward slide, still suffered enormously. I always thought it was just down to puritan hypocrisy in an election year. I had no idea he'd gone out of his way to ruin her because of not getting kissed up to enough. Just pathetic. And it really shows how dangerous he was to women in the industry to have this much power.

I hate to say it, but I personally believed at the time that it was an intentional stunt. I had expected something like that.

I loved Janet growing up - worshipped her - but I thought her albums had gotten (and continued to be after the Super Bowl) increasingly desperate after the failure of The Velvet Rope, an album I loved. She went light and tacky afterwards - I didn't need fifteen tracks about her lady parts interspersed with five different "interludes". That being said, today it seems clear it was an accident, and I never liked that she was bashed and ostracized while Justin was absolved. So I'm glad to see it made official.

I agree.  And I, too, felt it was unfair how Janet was vilified for the "nip slip" while Justin was basically sent to his bedroom for one night without his supper.

Reading the article and those tweets helps explain (to me, anyway) why Janet's career basically cooled in the years since that incident.  (Gosh, has it really been FOURTEEN YEARS?)  It's easy to say, "Well, it was because Janet (and Mariah, Madonna, etc.) were edged out by the new, younger generation of artists"; and who knows, maybe that's part of it.  But I always wondered whether there was more to the story.

To think: if Les hadn't been so vindictive, Janet might have been spared the twin indignities of starring in "Why Did I Get Married?" and "Why Did I Get Married Too?".  (...or not, lol.)

I really hope some of these women can successfully sue Les Moonves.  Why did he feel entitled to an apology from Janet Jackson?? It happened to her.  I'm glad she didn't grovel to that POS.

This ^^ just makes me boil with rage even more. A $100 million golden parachute as thanksfor ruining a lot of women's careers and their chance to put food on the table. As head of not just CBS but Viacom, his reach was extensive and all-encompassing, as illustrated by Yashir Ali's Tweets regarding Janet Jackson. To the point where even a random book deal at Simon & Schuster gets kaboshed.

Moonves went out of his way to target all these women! He must really have a hate-on for females, because Justin Timberlake kisses his ass and gets helped to the next level of his uninspiring career, while Eric Braeden gets to play golf with Moonves every month. It seems like targeted, systematic attacks on women and their careers.

Reading about Moonves' involvement in stalling Janet's career with the intent to destroy her is making me angry all over again!  Imagine if Janet had been so desperate as to turn to substance abuse like Whitney, we could've lost her.

Moonves is even more of a misogynist than I thought.  He disgusts me daily. He should be getting the Weinstein treatment too.

I never thought it was a stunt on Janet's part.  It was choreography gone wrong.  As someone who once performed onstage and had to have 'quick changes' just beyond the stage, I know things can go wrong in seconds.  And yes, I've had things go wrong with costumes, although thankfully nothing on Janet's level.  I think in this society, Black people, Black women, in particular are regarded as Jezebels that are up to no good, with the assumption of guilt.  It's a slave mentality (she seduced the Massa).

Historians who like to paint themselves as feminists can still, with a straight face, maintain that Sally Hemmings seduced Thomas Jefferson and not that a middle aged white plantation owner raped a 16 year old girl, multiple times, leading to her bearing multiple children that he kept enslaved.  Blame Sally, of course because Jefferson, one of the founding fathers, couldn't have possibly been wrong.

Same mentality, IMO.  Paint Janet as Jezebel, contaminating family-oriented, CTE causing late-afternoon entertainment. SMDH.

EDT:  And another thing-- Julie Chen should go too.  Initially, I was thinking she should leave just The Talk because people seem to want her to stay on BB (two shows that I admit to not watching) but she sat there on The Talk and haughtily defended him when she should've said something like "I love my husband but I will not speak on this at this time, as it involves a deeply personal matter to me") but she had to scold people for daring to call out her husband.

She should've just sat there and ate her food, so to speak.  So she can go too but I doubt a company as soulless and pathological as CBS will do anything.  The same company that is bestowing a platinum parachute on a predator.

date: Tuesday, November 18, 2025 | Jamey Giddens, Danielle Paige | Steven Williford Samantha, accept the fact you were in the wrong and do not deserve your digital devices. Do not like it? Go upstairs. Read a book. Do some knitting. Bradley and Martin's "we get it" to Tyrell was hilarious and absolutely a parent's thing to do. Loving a bit of history of both the Duprees (via Eva) and the Hawthrones (via Izaiah). So cute. Poor June. I am sure she did not purposefully mean to mess up; we have all been there working in customer service. Shake it off and keep on keeping on! Not twice a week for Vernon's cobbler order... Sharon must be using that as payment for their meetings. I appreciate that Ted still cares about the Duprees despite the end of his marriage to Nicole. Not Dana using Peaches' crisis as a way of taking Ted's attention away from a co-worker. Girl, do not be so obvious. Bradley is a man after my own heart with a simply divine chocolate milkshake. That is the way to go. Dana really needs to dial it back. Money will not buy her everything she wants and she will realise it soon enough. And I doubt Shanice is scared off by her idle threats, either. "With all due respect, Ms Thomas, this isn't a shopping mall." Oh, Dr Wilkes just owned Dana's arrogant ass. I love it. Wigs and personas? Okay now, Shanice ate with that read. I like that June assured Bradley that she will not replace him or Martin in the twins' lives. And that blood does not make a parent. Words never rang more true. Jessica reading Samantha was amazing. Dana would want to involve Ted. Her obsession is crossing beyond dangerous boundaries. Not Dana catching Vernon leaving Sharon's room at the country club. That is not good. Not good at all! Notes: Ugh. Not another breakdown from writer2. This week was going so well. Thankfully, Paige is an outstanding scriptwriter (one of this soap's best), and her words today are excellent. The food at Orphey Gene's does look bomb, so I do not blame any of the characters for uptalking it. I would eat there daily if I could. And gain hundreds of pounds, too. David Lami Friebe (Izaiah) continues to make me sick watching him, but he is nice to listen to. I still really like having June as the central person hub at Orphey Gene's. That familiar face you see when you walk in and have scenes. Dana wanting a second opinion means we could have an incoming doctor, right...?

    • I am sure "no one cares" and it's not a big deal to some people, but this thread is full of certain posters calling out women's ages, their viability to have children at like 35, and their nail polish, but we celebrate everything Chandler Massey does and applaud any male shirtless scenes.  And then posters walk back being like it's just a joke and weren't serious lol.
    • I'm so glad she's still on the show. Seems like she may have dropped a hint about the real source of conflict between her and Dee, too.
    • I don't know how reliable the information is, but from what I've read, he joined GH in 1977, and Alan (who started airing in September 1977) was one of his creations. That should have been enough time to get the show in better shape by the January 1978 episode we saw, but then again, shifting from a 30 minute to a 60 minute format is a big transition, one that requires a lot of filler scenes like Monica having a long flashback to a scene that must have only played out a few weeks earlier.
    • I agree. She said, "I do," and then decided, "I don't." I wish Nikki Abbott had been a longer duration. I wholly prefer Nikki with Jack than I ever have with Victor, and today's episode proved that. And I never minded Ashley with Victor.
    • That one really bothered me. The chemistry was still very much there and then she married Jack and immediately ran off to find Victor. It was such a slap in the face to anyone that was a fan of the pairing.
    • Some of those 1988-ish episodes are up. I'm not really sure she did much else. I think I recall something along the lines of she and Rusty had been suspended over the investigation of Nicky, George's supplier. I'm not sure she even gets some kind of goodbye. I think she just disappeared when Pam Long returned.
