I'm surprised Gloria is not #1.  Lauren, Reed and Sharon are being wasted. They may be on top but their stories have been failures.

Here is the top 10...Gloria is there and no Ashley and Glo Ho is just one episode behind Lauren....that's insane!  And Amelia Heinle at #1 too....gawd she is awful too.

January 2017 Episode Rankings
A total of 21 episodes aired this month.

1. Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) 12
*. Tracey Bregman (Lauren Baldwin) 12
*. Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman) 12
*. Bryton James (Devon Hamilton) 12
*. Tristan Lake Leabu (Reed Hellstrom) 12
6. Sharon Case (Sharon McAvoy) 11
*. Judith Chapman (Gloria Bardwell) 11
*. Mishael Morgan (Hilary Hamilton) 11
*. Greg Rikaart (Kevin Fisher) 11
10. Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) 10
*. Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott) 10

You could not pay me to own this board.

Fortunately, insisting that's the only thing that will help allows people the safety of calling the show irredeemable while knowing that it will never make that kind of sea change which might force them to reevaluate.

I think most of the vets are dead weight at this point, especially on the male side. I wish the show would question whether it's worth the risk even if they get backlash for cutting ties with walking corpses like Jack or Nick or Victoria.

While I'm not fond of old liver spots, I think he's one of the more popular characters played by one of the most popular actors on the show. Getting rid of Jack just isn't a good move. Now killing Victor is much better. Let Nikki lead the family as a nasty diva who will hold the family together or die trying. MTS would love it.

But I do think the Newman tree needs pruning. Not recasting Adam was a good move IMO. It made me ecstatic to see last month's top 10 was not dominated by them and their connections. I can't remember the last time that happened.

They could send Victoria and/or Abby to Europe. I agree there are too many Newman's.  I don't particularly like Victor or Jack at this point, but I think it would be a mistake to get of of them.  That's not to say that their role couldn't be diminished though.

Sally just doesn't have a strong vision and with the budget cuts, losing Justin H.  And she inherited a show that found no real success with any Griffith/Passanante/Pratt introduced characters.  They went no where (Kyle, Sage etc.) And now the show is kind of running on empty.  Sally's stunt plot points are just lame or cheesy i.e .Mariah's sabotaged pump, the sabotaged teleprompter, the umpteenth car accident, the sex crazed teen (didn't Latham or Bell do a Daniel is addicted to internet porn plot), Mal's bad hospital lighting, Tognoni's new/bad 80s hairdo.  The show is just fizzling daily.  All the actors are in hyper overdrive mode, trying to elevate the pedestrian material.  Not working.  That's why Gloria is annoying.  When Alden/Smith wrote her stories 12 years ago, she was desperate and sad but determined and it all fit with the melodrama, the vases, the candelabras...But Phelps reduced all that fun Bell/extravagance to Sunset Beach style show.  Hope the show gets its mojo back.  Wondering if Mal is the right choice as the EP.  Had hopes for his tenure a few months ago, but the vision is lacking.

Kyle should have worked since he is Jack and Diane's son. The problem was the writers. I hope Mal is reading the boards as he does and realizes that Sally's material is boring us into comas...well some of us.

) Anyways... I did really feel disgusted by Eurovision this year and I doubt I'll watch this horrific musical torture in the future. My ears and my psyche will not survive.
    • Regarding the mobster storyline: The scripts, the cardroom set, and the writing for Joey -- are all terrible. They seem to be writing a realistic depiction of compulsive gambling as an addiction, showing that it pops into his head all the time -- it has become hardwired into his brain.  The APA (American Psychological Association) describes compulsive gambling as having a similar effect on the physical brain as drug and alcohol addiction. https://www.apa.org/monitor/2023/07/how-gambling-affects-the-brain I think Jason Graham (Doug) is doing an adequate job playing Doug as a compulsive gambler, with the thoughts/urges coming into his head all the time, and being unable to stop. However, the cardroom set is awful and the mobster storyline is a bad cliché, so it's all so uninteresting to watch. I think Mr. Graham is doing the best he can with the crap they gave him to work with. If anyone reading or watching has a gambling issue, check out Gamblers Anonymous.  They have many types of meetings -- in-person, online, video, audio, etc.  They also have resources for friends/family of compulsive gamblers.
    • Today was painful (especially for Philip).  I still feel for Xander. He was clear he was happy sharing and working with Philip. It's just one more betrayal from someone he loved. Going back to last year when he found out about Victor and Fiona, then Alex and Philip. He forgave and tried. Then Philip went behind his back again. He's been walking on the edge for weeks. This is a man who was abused, neglected and has never had any therapy for his horrific past. He has zero coping skills because he's never learned them. I hate this but I refuse to hate Xander
    • Lucy Coe wasn't even this big of a whore.
    • Kate being the one that Alex called was a nice surprise. The cut to her looking all sheek made me instantly get excited for her to get back into business mode. And the Jack reference from when she first came to town (on-screen) was inserted naturally which is always welcome. When they were talking about how much sex sells, I almost got the impression they were sizing each other up in a May/December type of way.  All the Philip stuff was gruesome. I'm happy the show isn't shying away from Xander's ugliness. I love them both, and it just makes me intrigued for the aftermath for it all to be taken seriously. I cheered when Philip spat out at that Sarah knew the truth. I'm on tenterhooks for their eventual confrontation. I was surprised that Kate wasn't a little vicious towards Sarah for Xander's obvious behavior, but maybe that's still to come. How wonderfully entangled is it that both Philip and Shawn/Steve stopped each other from getting the drug. Both equally at fault. Who/what will ultimately save Bo? And with everything going on, is a Salem where it's looking likely that EJ is about to own the hospital imminent?
    • Oddly.. Chase and Steve seem to have both vanished from the canvas in December so the Estelle return loses impact when two of her kids stop appearing shortly after her return (and I assume TR leaves in early 1986 as well). The Steve recast doesn't work... but it's odd that he has a long scene with Teri with Cagney looking jealous.. when the majority of his time on the show previously was a relationship and engagement to Stephanie (who he barely has a scene with in the episodes I see). Your idea for Wendy/Bela/Stephanie sounds just like what Ryan's Hope did with Michael/Kim/Rae... and considering Louise Shaffer was playing Rae and Stephanie.. it would have been a lousy redux of a superior story on another soap (that had months of build-up) I think Quinn becoming assistant to Stephanie was Mayer/Braxton... but not 100 % sure. I don't know if Mayer/Braxton was setting up Sarah as a bad girl disguised as a good girl.. but the actress (Joyner) was playing the scenes in that manner.. and Tomlin wisely tapped into that when he took over.
    • She’s such a caricature - which is a shame because I think the actress is capable of so much more.   I don’t know why Cady often feels like she has overcompensated in her performances. She already proved she can play much more than just Dixie Cooley during her first stint at ATWT (her best acting era). Her performances in various roles since then have been quite strange at times.
    • It feels like the show suddenly woke up today and remembered it was Sweeps month. Lots of action and forward momentum, including a delicious Nina/Carly fight.
