Four people not related to Devon were talking about his accident because they are part of a community, and they interact with him. It's what I always thought of as a "trickle-down" passing of info throughout the show. If they didn't talk about it, it would seem like no one cared.

You misunderstand what I'm saying. The show seemed to grind to a halt when Mariah tripped but Devon's accident has been given lip service by a small handful of characters. Hillary had to be comforted by Stitch of all people.

Oh, sorry, I have wondered why no one else was there, too.  Not even Cane.

I missed the first half of today's episode because the governor was on here in CT. I got home at one and set the NY station to record the rest of the show. Was anyone else there in the first half hour?

Why has Jack not shown up for his "friend"? I understand that the narrative is Hilary is desperately in love with Devon so much so that she will spend every minute at the hospital by his side. But, they should also play the beats of other people coming by to check on his condition. Jack stopping by for one scene would not have taken away from that. Victor coming to shake Neil's hand, pass out Newman stock, and call him "Ole boy" surely wouldn't. Michael coming by to discuss devon's living will would make total sense.

For some reason, I think Stitch's support  for her will come back in play in a none romantic way.  However,  I see folks wanting them paired and talking about chemistry. Surely Sally wouldn't pair Hilary with Stitch. I can't see it.

I agree. Very odd that Jack, Nikki and Abby haven't stopped by the hospital.  Maybe it'll happen in the coming days. I guess I can see why they might feel like it's an intrusion to go the very first day, but if it doesn't happen at all that's off.

Even Ashley. How come she hasn't stopped by to lend some comforting words to Neil?  Surely it's all over the news that a local billionaire has had a near fatal accident?  Everyone was talking about the "trip seen around the world" and Hillary's inadvertant teleprompter confession, but not this?

I don't buy that one damn bit!  Devon's accident shows the huge disservice to POC in Daytime, especially AA characters. These scenes show the lack of importance AA characters have to the canvas. They are really not connected to the canvas as a whole which makes them easy to ignore and eventually write out. Nikki was Katherine's bestie so surely she can take a minute for Katherine's grandson. Jack is supposedly Hill's friend and Ash benefited greatly from Devon's money.  That waiting room should have had more than just black people there worried. So [!@#$%^&*] ridiculous!

Sal is not impressing me much!  This was a huge passed opportunity to truly connect these characters to GC and the white citizens!

I get why it was written this way from a story purpose stand point. Essentially it showed that everyone but hilary (neil and lily)  could go on with their lives if Devon died. And that's very true. That speaks to the larger problem of POC not having any true connections in that town. But i think yourr saying the story could have been far bigger for the canvas than it was had they made it so. And I agree with that too.

The true disservice was how Neil and Lily were handled. That's the biggest problem. Lily and neil sits down at Devon's bedside and all they can think about is his marriage to hilary and wanting it to end? Puh-lease. These folks have a lifetime of history prior to a hilary coming to town.  She should have been an afterthought. Their conversations should have been about their relationships with Devon complete with 13 year old flashbacks.

Sharon's "sort of" regarding her parents felt significant. I wonder if they're doing something with that, since they clearly arranged it in a way to lead to Faith ask about them. Maybe this whole "I am divorcing you" story was to lead to this?

Reed is working out perfectly so far, although the joviality of Victor meeting him and then telling Nikki and Noah felt a little fake. They didn't really pull it off. I'm glad Victoria's acting cool about the whole thing but, in some moments, she's too relaxed about it. But that's more AH than the writing. Big surprise.

LOL at Sharon and Nikki arguing. Always fun, despite the Sharon character assassination.

They did a GREAT job with the hospital scenes. Those felt classic Y&R. And even though I wish Lily was in that bed dying, I really liked how, by the end, they held on to each other (and Hilary calling their differences 'petty,' because they are). The show's makeup department did its thing again with Devon. It's funny when you compare it to say, GENERAL HOSPITAL, which is supposed to be all about a hospital, and whenever someone's hurt, they splash some bright red over someone's cheek and call it a day.

    • I've enjoyed Vernon but I wouldn't be opposed to learning more about his life beyond his political work. What kind of family does he come from? Does he have any siblings? I feel like that could be an interesting thing to look at.

    • I've always said, Robert Newman does not get enough credit for the popularity of Josh/Reva. Had he stayed in '91, and had years to build other relationships before Kim returned, I'm not sure we'd have been stuck with "always".
    • Bizarrely, while I didn't see it, I distinctly remember my younger sister telling me. We were walking to the store, and at the top of the hill she let out "Roger raped Holly", and I swear I remember it echoing for what seemed like forever. She would've been five at the time.  I know,,,which I find extraordinary. I have toyed with the idea of watching Another World for Maeve, Kathleen Widdoes and Beverlee. But watching Vanessa call Emma Snyder "momma" kinda weirded me out. LOL. I believe that's what I read in the recaps from the time as well. I meant, I couldn't quite believe that the audience wouldn't understand that a woman preparing to go to her engagement party  was raped. I know that on ATWT John raped Kim while they were married, resulting in Andy, but I think they shied away from calling that marital rape.
    • I have my fingers crossed for a baby to be named Monica Michelle & called Monica. And, yes, I do realize that is not equal to having her onscreen but, like you said & of course a recast is unthinkable.
    • I would love to have Monica on screen. Leslie Charleson has died. She played the role for 46 years. Monica should pass as well. No one is going to accept a long-term recast for Monica, no matter how great  the actress they could get.
    • Coming into June...   It just occurred to me that seeing Carter/Hope engaged that there was something missing. Oh, yeah! DAPHNE. I missed a few episodes, but she left, right? So is Ridge going to be the spoiler for Carter/Hope now? I felt that Daphne/Carter/Hope had more legs to it. But I guess we will see.   I did enjoy that show circling back around to Luna/Will/Electra. Katie was spitting nothing, but truth. Same for Sheila. And it's good to see Luna vs Electra, and they gave off more adversary chemistry this time around versus when they were at Deacon's.    I was happy to see Liam reduced to C plot.
    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
